easiest way: SIMS, Assesment manager (as there's no bulk update available for UDFs) Make an aspect for each activity stick em all on a template make a marksheet for each registration group get the form tutors to fill em in. how you go about getting the data out depends on what you want to do with it

You can almost certainly do this from a batch file using DsMod, DsAdd, a "for" loop and some carefully crafted Sims .Net reports that output as CSVs...

what you need isn't xcopy, but robocopy.exe (yes, really!) a copy is attached. I've attached it to this message - just unzip and stick it in your Windows folder so the Path points to it then from a command prompt type "robocopy /?" to get all the parameters, of which there are many! use "/mir" with extreme care, it's particularly powerful but potentially destructive!! robocopy.zip

yeah, sorry should have been clear - it was a bunch of files, and it did display the choice of windows 2000 or windows 2003 32bit (which I chose as that's what I'm installing )

I did try that - got the oemsetup.inf driver off the dvd and put it on a floppy disk (having raided the "computing through the ages" display case to find one ) - I suppose I could have got the wrong one but it seemed to be accepted ok... and that still doesn't explain why the "EasyBuild" CDs behave like that

Update: Just booted a Ubuntu Live CD with the RAID switched on, just to see if it would shed any light on what was going on..... and it saw the three individual HDDs, rather than the RAID:confused::confused: Have I got a dodgey RAID controller?

Erm... I've hit a little impass Just unboxed a brand shiny new Acer Altos G540 server and I'm trying to install Windows (Server 2003) (R2) on 3 HDDs in RAID 5, as a single partition. But here's the rub: With the bios set to SATA enhanced Mode, I can activate the RAID and the hot swappy bit and setup the RAID 5, but Windows setup fails with a BSOD (Stop 0x7b) at the first "Starting Windows" part (just before you choose partitions etc). Driver problem you may think? Well, no, because neither version of Acer Easybuild V8.0 (2 copies supplied with the server, one "Build 100" the other "Build 200") ALSO doesn't fire up either - it just runs straight through then wants to reboot Put the BIOS in compatability mode and the RAID won't work (it's switched off - it only seems to be switch on-able in enhanced mode), but both Windows and Easybuild work fine. So how the heck are you supposed to install Windows on the RAID? I'm probably being thick - I've spent the last week doing the timetable and my grey matter's frazzled, but has anyone else hit this or anything like it?

One way or the other, yes! Either short term (getting the data recovered) or longer term (teacher being paid for time to recreate lost work) I had this a while ago (http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind-red-door/29022-pe-dept-technology.html) and the teacher's department's capitation is footing the bill:cool:

I ONLY want them to be able to move the G&T subject ticks in bulk update - hence them all having "registration tutor" and me creating a new security group to JUST give the small extra bit! Just trying to reduce the duplication of work of teachers using a marksheet to indicate who is G and / or T in their subject before an admin person moves the ticks using bulk update. The helpdesk's answer, by the way, was to give everyone Admin Assistant access:eek: I'll keep fiddling, just wondered if anyone had already done it:)

Can't help you with a login, but I can tell you that we evaluated it recently. In the end we went with a Sharepoint solution; but FROG got a good look in. We felt it would be a very quick win with the staff and students, but did feel that we'd hit limitations with it quite quickly with regard to scalability. Sharepoint, we decided would be a slower burn but a bigger, better end result. If you're looking at the moment and you're a SIMS school, I'd strongly suggest you look at SIMS Learning Gateway 2 - It's about the same money as FROG and looks to give the best of all worlds with more besides. IIRC FROG have a demo school with demo accounts - if you contact them direct I'm sure they'll sort you out with one There's plenty of documentation on the web for FROG too - I take it you've reddit...reddit... reddit... http://www.frogtrade.com/ I hope that helps - I know I rambled a bit off topic

Just logged this with the SIMS helpdesk - if you lot can get there first I'll be well impressed;) I want all of our teaching staff to be able to update gifted and talented subjects using Routines | student | bulk update. They all have at least "Registration tutor" access, and I've created a new security group to put them to in order to enable them to use bulk update. Which are the minimum permissions that need to be applied to the new group to enable them to do this?

One of our members of staff has a problem with her roaming profile, in that it doesn't work (Server 2003 network and Vista Business laptop) I've taken ownership of and moved the folder off the profile share on the server and moved c:\users\%username% on the c: drive to no avail. the exact sequence of events when the user logs in is as follows: :oUser enters username and password :(Folder named %username%.v2 is created on the roaming profile share on the server :confused:Folder named TEMP is created in c:\users on the local disk :rolleyes:The "your profile was not loaded correctly and changes will be lost when you log off" message is displayed I tried changing the user profile name in "Active Directory users and computers", now the folder created on the server has the new name but apart from that nothing's changed. Any ideas anyone?

ChkDsk puts the log results in the application log, too - look for an entry from source Winlogon (?? iirc), that'll be the scan results

Oh yes it can! there are many ways to do eg. pupil tracking year on year in .Net reporting, Assesment manager result sets for one. It's a nice piece of kit, seriously Commandreporter.exe will let you run a report from a command line without having .Net open the output is ugly xml (or it was last time I tried) Get that supportnet account - any documentation that's available is there

SIMS .Net has it's own "logic" once you get into it, you'll have no problems at all. The reporting stuff is as complicated and powerful as you want to make it - if you just want a list of kids in a year group you can do it with a predefined report in about six clicks and you get a word document containing a table with your list in it. If you want a list of kids who are above 5'6" tall and got above a 6 in their science SATs, you can do that too but you'll need to edit or create your report (having first added a "user defined field" or "assesment manager aspect" to hold the height data). If you want to recreate a paper discipline slip populating it with details from the Behaviour Management section of .Net, you'll have to create a RTF Template, but it can be done. My advice: sign up to support.capitaes.co.uk and download the reporting manuals and the course materials - they're all there (I contributed to some of them when I worked for Capita) - and go at your own pace. You can set a macro to run automatically on an excel report output, so you can do whatever you want with it - that's powerful - I only ever once had to resort to outputting to a CSV and stuffing it into access! You COULD go in through the other end using the SQL tools, I've seen it done, indeed I've done it myself a couple of times for various reasons, but to be honest the thing's so big it's not time economical when the reporting's so good. Edit: Don't change anything directly in the data or you will probably breech the support contract - but if you're good enough and so inclined there's nothing to stop you setting up a second SQL Express server and putting an "offline" copy of your database on it to play with.
