Struggling to get the devizes system working I think I've set up everything as it says in the manual, but when I try to access it the title bar of IE briefly changes to "booking system" before changing to a 404 "the page cannot be found". At this time, the path that's displayed "http://griphook/start/default.asp" does exist and is correct... as far as I can see. All the services that I think should be running, seem to be. Anyone got any ideas what I could have got wrong and how to start trouble shooting?

I've got a room full of Vista machines that do that after two hour's use - the rest of the network is fine and so are the PCs after a reboot:eek: I've tried drivers, Updates, Antivirus, witchcraft:(:( they're getting blattered with XP or 7 this summer:rolleyes:

The "database" I was referring to is just the bog-standard database that you put on a course from the "add an activity" menu - I don't THINK you can do anything quite that clever with it, but do stand to be corrected

I'm looking for a way of booking IT rooms on (Cleo) Moodle that takes the minimum of fuss to set up at the start of the year and is simple enough for the teachers to use:rolleyes:. The rooms are used about 60% of the time by timetabled classes, and it's a full-on two week timetable (week B bearing little resemblance to week A) Any suggestions? I've made a category called "Staff" and a course named "Bookings" I've considered a "database", but couldn't make it look simple enough to use and putting the timetabled classes in would be a nightmare. That is, however how we're doing the bookings for non-timetableable facilities like the minibus, for which it is ok How good would Moodle be at handling an excel sheet that staff could download, book rooms on, then upload again? That process would have to be pretty seamless for them - it would have to be the "save " that uploaded it as they'd never cope with saving then uploading what they saved - is that possible?! I'm new to Moodle, but spent the past 18 months on a sharepoint VLE (that we decided we couldn't afford, hence moving to Moodle). All help greatly appreciated!

Well, the laptop's an Acer Aspire 5315 model No ICL50 (we've got a load of 5310s too and they LOOK identical from the outside) There's all sorts of other numbers around too including a load on the back of the defective keyboard - is that enough for now or do you need more??

Anyone know how to get the keyboard off an Acer Aspire 53xx laptop? I can't seem to lift the trim from the top and there's no screws labelled anything like "keyboard" underneath... And before the usual tyrade of sarcasm ensues, I'm thinking REVERSIBLY - like I want to put it back on again - so no chainsaws, explosives or large hammers please:p

I just had a conversation with an English teacher that was bordering on the surreal.... and I thought I'd share it with you. He insists that the plural of mouse, as in computer mouse, is mouses rather than mice. Apparently, the plural of (live) mouse is only mice because it is an old English word. As mouse (computer) is a new word it should follow the new, regular, pluralisation and therefore be mouses. Apparently the fact that mouses are named after mice because they look like them (and have tails and a red eye underneath) is irrelevant:bowl: Oh, and the plural of shoe is shoon apparently, too:eek: I've been speaking this language for 30 years and these were new on me!

Heads up guys and girls:eek: I just thought I'd point this out, as it took us by surprise and I hadn't heard... it seems that the "Validate Memberships" routine in SIMS .Net, that runs before you can set up the promotion mapping for next year, was upgraded in the March 09 release and now may take an hour or more to run for the first time since! Forgive my ignorance:o We're a small secondary school, our entire site is currently covered by six standard like-you-would-put-in-at-home Netgear Wireless APs. It works fine for staff laptops, but occasionally a class set struggle to all get a logon server at once. Would a Ruckus system work better? and am I looking at (ballpark) £20, £200 or £2000?
