No, they were on board ones too. I ended up going to PC world (it was an emergency!), getting a boxful of nic's and shoving them in. We now have surgecubes on all the switches - the electricity here comes with lumps in it.

Then you would seem to need to either edit the backup procedure if you can (not familiar with backupassist I'm afraid), or create the batch file I mentioned up there /|\ and schedule it. If it's definately the backup that's stopping it and nothing more sinister, it's a safe permanent fix.

I don't think you can copy the sims.ldf and sims.mdf if you don't? I've certainly always stopped the service first.

Question is, is the service crashing out or being stopped properly by something? Is it happening at the same time each day (see the system logs) ? if it's being stopped properly eg. by a "net stop", the restart option will have no effect. Pragmatically, you could just make a batch file containing net start mssql$sims2008 (replacing mssql$sims2008 with whatever your SQL instance is called if necessary) and make a scheduled task to make it run at 7.30 each morning

Simple things first, do you run a backup overnight that stops the service to get at the LDF and MDF files?

I can only comment on ABTutor and Securus, but I would say you need both - ABTutor for when the teacher is looking and Securus for when they're not. With Securus there is then the debate on whether you still need filtering at all - there are arguments to say that you protect the kids better without it in some cases - see here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/blue-skies/52582-turn-filters-off-use-securus.html for that debate

Well, I passed it to the Head (via his PA) along with the correct answers and he said to send them, so she (his PA) did. All I gave were one word or numerical answers - I don't think they'll be much use to anyone especially as our (former estate agent) receptionist filters virtually all sales calls for me anyway The last two questions I answered with "Unable to respond - Question too vague" as it depends on what you classify as an "ICT Partner" and an "ICT Strategy" and I wasn't about to go into a lengthy explaination of our arrangements, particularly when the guidelines for a FOI request state to word your questions carefully.

All I can add to this is that several staff here applied, and, you guessed it, no sticks yet:rolleyes:, not that it matters as we'll be phasing them out over the next few years anyway in favour of a combination of Moodle / Mahara / Remote access (far less risk of pupil data escaping)

Does anyone know of a (decent) open source web page editor out there? Something along the lines of Dreamweaver (which we can't afford), and Frontpage (which we've got but seems to fill the HTML it generates with a load of carp)...

I've been putting a few of these in recently: Optoma DS316 SVGA - 2500 Ansi Lumens (DS316) - dabs.com they're cheap as chips (£239) and so bright they leave scorch marks on the whiteboards - well not really but 2500 Lumens. They're also small and light and we've yet to find a projector bracket that couldn't be bodged to adequately take them. At that price I'm less concerned about lamp life and the fact that they're only natively SVGA - after the knackered, dim HP projectors they're replacing they look pin sharp in comparison!

Take one jar of smart price marmalade - remove 1 tablespoonful and replace with whisky. Stir well. THAT on toast is FANTASTIC!
