That's a good plan too - by putting an extra switch between the server and the network cab you can see exactly what's going on - that's actually how I isolated the duplex problem

Are ping times between workstations ok? Are any of your switches going bonkers if so it could be a LAN storm caused by a loopback or something? Check the duplex settings on the NIC in the server too (yes really!) I set one up and for some inexplicable reason it had defaulted to 100 Half Duplex so half the packets were getting lost all the time:rolleyes:

Less wordy rephrasing of the question: How do you change the drive letter of the boot disk in Windows 7?

I've made up a triple boot, 3 partition image for the machines in one of our labs that is used by adult education so that the students (most of which are over 70) can use whichever OS and / or Office version they have at home, so we've got XP, Vista and W7. XP (sysprepped) and Vista (not sysprepped but given an "imaging" name) work absolutely fine once mini setup runs on XP and screws the boot settings, I fix it with bcdedit /import, and I log into vista to give it a new machine name and disconnect / reconnect to the domain. BUT 7 doesn't fare so well, despite being fine on the machine I've taken the ghost image of the whole disk off, it sits at "please wait" for half an hour or so then invites you to log on. From there it decides it's not activated, won't let you activate it, then it dies. On investigation it seems that it's changed the drive letters, somehow so that nothing works once windows has started. It seems that in Win 7, it calls the boot disk C, when on the machine it came from it's E. How'd you fix that without messing up the other two OS's then? I've tried DiskPart (having booted to a safe mode command prompt) and it won't do it as it's the boot disk . I don't want to boot PE and do it in case I screw the other two up... any ideas??

Probably - but there's no harm in (taking a backup and) giving it a go anyway...

Has anyone succesfully deleted students from ICT 4 Life? I've tried moving them into a class then deleting the class but they're still there...

I know how to split it by dragging up the little mark at the top (or right) of the scroll bar, but how do you make it permanent?

You can copy to Excel, but that loses all the nice shading - which is one of the analysis program's best features. Many thanks

Nothing. As I said earlier: Presumably it is the company's IT kit and/or bandwidth and/or time you would be using. If any of those are correct, they get to make the rules I'm afraid.

The filtering in your company is there for a reason, namely to enforce their acceptable use policy, for operational reasons. For example, In a school, where I and most of the members here are based, bypassing filters is additionally hazardous as it could lead to students accessing inappropriate / dangerous / illegal content, not only putting the child at risk but potentially leading to problems for the school as it will have failed in their duty of care. I suggest addressing whoever is in charge of supporting IT in your company detailing what you need to access and why - if it is for legitimate work purposes you should not have a problem.

Right. XP's going back on for now, so we'll have a roomful of PCs that are useable. If I've got some time at the end of the holidays, I'll have a see about getting 7 to work again - but there's other jobs that need doing first. Cheers all!
