You mean like having each PC in a soundproof cubicle - without the cubicle? Now THAT would have made a final year major project when I was doing Computational Physics at uni

I've been in this job almost 10 years now and I've never come up with a silver bullet for this. What do you do for sound in your IT rooms? Speakers? Headphones? Something else? Nothing?

I hadn't looked at the date! it's currently top of the "most shared" bit on the BBC news page, which normally only shows pretty recent stuff:o

The following page works fine on Opera, but doesn't on IE8 on our network where only the title shows (see thumbnails). Any suggestions as to which security settings are causing it? It's in the trusted sites with security set to "Low" and the damn thing still doesn't render. We've got several of these - they were done last year when we were on IE6 (they were fine then) and are just being sent to the moderator. Our Head of ICT was a little distressed when she opened them up after burning to CD and found them "empty"! I was hoping to paste the whole html code into a "code box" - but it made this post too long the .zip file attached to this message contains the html. Edit: Replaced the .zip of just the html to the whole folder containing the images and other bits Publications.zip

Just created a second configuration for ISA to proxy CLEO's unfiltered connection so we can now run adult ed courses on Youtube, Facebook etc. after hours eventually I hope to use it full time with something like Securus monitoring, rather than blanket filtering.

Well, we've had at least 50 laptops / netbooks on 1 AP and it didn't blink Also, since we got it settled and all the APs in their permenant positions, we've had this many pupils unable to log on due to wireless network issues: 0 (before, with unmanaged APs it was about 10 per day) Can I sit down now? my back's starting to ache bending over to type:)

As for the road, for Cumbria it's actually generally not too bad - the strtech it happened on is single carriageway - but it's wide single carrigeway with good visibility and there's a dual carriageway a few miles before and after it - and you don't get too many of them round the county generally

As I understand it, even with all the cuts and austerity measures, the debt won't be in any danger of being reduced! it's all an effort to make things get worse more slowly To actually reduce the debt - as in pay some of it off - we'd probably have to sell half the UK off!

I did - and nothing worked - so I switched it off again and have had no problems since I think it's more for something like an internet cafe so the customers can't see each other's PCs (or whatever)

I've heard that putting it in the freezer for a short time and removing the ice (only the water freezes - the alcohol doesn't) is easier and MUCH safer than distilling as you can't get the temperature wrong and poison yourself - anyone tried it?

Neither did ours! It took a bit of digging and bodging but I've managed to get XP drivers for everything - what brand of laptop is it - I might have a driver bundle I can send you around here somewhere!

I found - before it got ditched - that turning off UAC actually caused as many problems as it fixed - sometimes the damn'd things wouldn't do anything, because they didn't prompt for authorisation, because it was turned off. again, GAAAAAH!!

I take it blattering it with XP Pro isn't an option?? that's what I've managed to do to ALL our vista kit now. Vista just didn't work. Didn't update properly, wouldn't install printers, slowed everything down, gaaaaah!

Well, as most of our staff are currently using SVGA HP projectors whose lamps are beyond their recommended life, I hardly think that'll be an issue:)

I've got to ask... What DOESN't he like about them?!

Just saw these advertised in the TES this morning (Spec attached) - anyone tried one yet? By my calculations, if the lamp lasts 20,000 hours as they claim, that's 21 school years, which is impressive... Factsheet_Casio_Projectors_UK.pdf
