It is indeed Rather than lugging 30KGs of printer accross the room, I've installed it locally again and used "net use lpt2..." to connect a virtual printer port to the share on te server - that worked fine and printed a test page How do you get the drivers off the workstation into the server? - I've tried pointing the server to the files listed on the test page but it insists they're no good

I'm almost in the same boat as @GarethEdmonson here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/59701-windows-7-ive-given-up.html If I can't get this to work by lunchtime I'm blattering back to XP! Server 2003R2 network with a roomfull of shiny new PCs, which I'm trying to get W7 x64 to behave on - they're refusing point blank to connect to a network printer - an Epson C1100, for which there is an "in the box" driver. It's failing (logged in as an administrator with UAC disabled) with error 0x0000000a. I've installed the group policy editor on one of the W7 machines:rolleyes: so I can tweak all the new settings:rolleyes: and have disabled point and print restrictions - no effect. Tried installing the print driver locally (as if it was connected to LPT1) as that sometimes worked on vista (during THAT debarcle, before it got canned) - but still no different. Any ideas folks? I thought Windows 7 was supposed to be better than Vista - not from where I'm standing it's not!

Better suggestion: NIC Driver? How about trying shoving another network card, usb wireless or whatever in one and see if that works correctly??

Nope, you can have as many as you like as long as the scopes don't overlap - we have one for 10.nnn.17.xx, one for 10.nnn.18.xx and one for 10.nnn.19.xx - so that if one falls over everyone can still get an IP, amongst other reasons

Anything that hasn't been reinmaged recently will be done over the summer too, I've got the GPO ready to do it on startup - could set it loose next week - but a few people may moan if it takes their pc half an hour to boot

I've just set up a new DHCP / DNS (secondary) / DC (no FSMO roles) / ISA server to replace a couple of ageing ones and it's on test at the moment. I THINK:rolleyes: I've "allowed" all the protocols I need to and everything seems to be working ok - but in the ISA log, every few seconds, the following line is appearing: Destination IP: 255.255.255.255 Destination Port: 5151 Protocol: Unidentified IP Traffic Action: Denied connection Client IP: (one of the pc's in reception) Destination Network: Local Host Ring any bells, anyone? I'm not aware of any specific school that's been prosecuted, but first, cover your back, send an email outlining, or clarifying, your concerns. Whether that just goes to your line manager or you cc in the Head is your call depending on your workplace. It's to avoid this kind of thing that we have a Microsoft School Agreement - it's worth looking into...

Ok then, how about this: Build the system with, say, 512MB Ram and no windows license.... Then buy another gig, say, of Ram on a different order (from a different company if necessary) and buy the OEM license with the "upgraded hardware" (extra memory). Sorted. You didn't license the PC you originally built yourself with OEM, you licensed the component that upgraded it to a suitable spec to run it, which is fine

However neither is it illegal to blacklist cold calling suppliers who use information gathered in this way:D - you can generally buy from whoever you like (possibly with the caveat that you have enough quotes etc. to show that the supplier that you used for larger purchases was suitable) That I agree with 100% - it's your school that's being FOI'd not you - it's not worth risking your career over

Well, that was a waste of time, we've sent the kids back to class. If they'd only give you a test stream, not just a player that appears literally 90s before it starts:mad:, I'd have identified the problem and either got it sorted or cancelled the viewing yesterday:rolleyes:

Ok, We've got the player ok, but it's unable to find the stream. Getting the error: Server not found: rtmp://flash.livestream.manchester.ac.uk We're on CLEO with no internal proxies set, which is as direct an internet connection as we can get. Any ideas? I've emailled the uni but you guys are normally quicker than any support desk!

we're planning to show the lecture on Star Lectures (The University of Manchester) which is due to start in 7 minutes... but all we're seeing is the intro page and no player or anything - is that what's supposed to be happening??
