We've changed our schools over to Epson heatfree ink devices, such a massive saving on electricity costs and for the most part, there is no change in quality. As in, normal day to day printing is the same, if not better.

Chromebook spec for a Computer Room used by over 300 pupils

Correct. Most decent resellers will supply them, then you can apply them to devices as you enrol them. -

There are some decent very hard wearing HPs in the market. I won't get a Chrome device with less that 8gb ram as I find they run better with more. Profile space can be a problem, but it's easy to clear via Admin console. -
@VeryPC for me who provides us with CTouch screens

I use miradore.com - just their free version as it does what I need for iPads and Android tablets.

Thanks, I have reached out to Trelson to get a demo and pricing.

As it's approaching exam season, I've been looking at options to disable spell check on our Chromebooks. From Workspace, it's possible to disable spell check in Chrome, but not in Docs. I've found an extension (xfanatical ) that I demo'ed during our mocks, and it did the job, but it's quite expensive when I only need it for a handful of pupils 3 times a year. Although, it does have some other features that I would use if I were to purchase. https://xfanatical.com/product/safe-doc Any other suggestions?

I ran it on an old Mac a couple of years ago. It was fine for about 6 months, then the wifi stopped working. I was at a Google event and mentioned it, had a few emails back and forth, and they said they had stopped supporting some models.

Looks good! Just need to find a black and white template

Good points, thanks. I'd be interested in cyber stuff, but it doesn't grab me enough to do it as a full time job. I've seen too many younger people doing it very well! I have been half looking at other roles locally and that's why I've been looking at ITIL and Prince as they are quite often listed as required for the sort of roles I'd like. I recently spoke with an organisation and I was the only one who applied for a role without a recent qualification along those lines.

Me too, as in that's what I'd be looking at when recruiting but also, because I've got 20+ years of experience, most of which has been in a management position.

Can't comment on the other system, but I've just set one school up with Libresoft https://libresoft.co.uk with another one in a few weeks. -
is it the goal to purely learn something new - yes is it the goal to certificate current skills - yes is it to enable increasing your pay at your current place of work - maybe, although I don't think there's much more I can go with my current role. is it to enable a better chance in finding a new job, presumably with better pay? - yes is it 'just for fun' - yes My current role is more cloud based support/implementation (MIS, Google etc), although not solely that. My role is shared between main office and one of the schools, where I'm senior management.

Thought it was about time I built my skillset or at least get a bit of paper that proves I know what I'm talking about. My role has changed a bit over the last few years so now I'm involved more in planning of new systems, integrating new schools into our trust along side of day to day IT support. Over the past year I have completed my Google Level 1, 2 and Workspace Administrators exams. What next? ITIL 4 or PRINCE2 look to be good options as there is some flexibility with how I can use them. I'm not interested in anything Microsoft specific or networking (Cisco etc)

Saw this last night. It wasn't great. My wife was tempted to walk out

I'm looking for some information regarding advice on how much screen time is recommended during a school day. Has anyone seen anything about this? So far, I've found this paper https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5804/cmselect/cmeduc/118/report.html which is interesting, but it doesn't give any specific suggestions, e.g. 2 hours a day.

A car vs money scenario... Please help me make up my mind!
Danp replied to AB_IT's topic in General Chat
I'm all for keeping older cars going, better the devil you know! I find it's cheaper in the long run than buying newer and finding stuff still goes wrong with them and normally, costs more to fix. -
[isams] 📢 Networking Opportunity for iSAMS Schools: Let's Connect!
Danp replied to TomBusfield's topic in MIS Systems
Hi Tom, I look after 6 schools using isams and working on the migration for a 7th school. Have you attended a local isams user group meeting recently? They are very useful, I was at the south west one yesterday and it's great to meet with other schools. Last year's event we shared email addresses and the group of us email every few weeks. -
Same, 6 x prep schools and I'm working to move the latest school to join our trust over to isams in the next few weeks.
-
I've only seen one of their latest mini devices and they look great when branded. As for the company, can't fault them, a great company to work with, I've been using them since 2011.
-
Out of interest, have you seen the new isams cloud portal? It's better than the old one.
-
It's not cheap, in the region of £3k for filtering and classroom options.
