I had a PIV fitted in March and not long afterwards it got too warm for it to be on. For the last 6 weeks or so it's been on 24/7 and I can see what a difference it has made. Every morning I was wiping the inside of windows as they all had pools of water on them. Now, nothing. One thing I have noticed is that the cover of the PIV that's in the hall gets condensation on it, which makes sense as the unit is blowing cooler air into a room where it has heat rising against it. Also have issues with condensation in the loft, really need to sort the air flow out up there.

Ha, know what you mean. Also, I hope an enthusiast wants them as let's be honest, the average user will probably not get on with these and will blame me when they "don't work".

Listed on Marketplace

Update, the lower spec one has a power fault and shuts down after a random amount of time. Now asking for £150 for them both. Feel that's a reasonable price for the fully working one and the other is perfect for spares and probably can be fixed.

Thank you

I'm prepping these now for sale and before I have the pleasure of listing them on Marketplace, I thought I'd offer them here for a few days first. They are my own personal ones, I used one as a media server and the other one was for dev work at home. Have previously run server 2012 R2 and more lately 2016. Currently, they have Ubuntu installed because of licensing. Spec, both have Celeron G1610T @ 2.30GHz (upgradable, lots of info online about it). One has 16gb ram, the other has 4gb. Both have an ssd (480gb on 16gb unit, 120gb on 4gb unit) in the bay as a boot drive, this leaves the 4 other drive bays for storage. Both have a slim 1gb graphics card to give HDMI output. Neither have a dvd drive. I'm checking the storage drives, not sure if I want them all to go at the moment, but the 16gb unit does have 2 x 2tb drives included. I'll update this in the next few days, any questions feel free to PM me. Collection preferred from WR10 (South Worcestershire) as postage will be expensive. Price-wise, I'm looking for £250ono for the pair

I've been fitting CTouch, very happy with them. Some are close to 9 years old now and still going although they are being replaced next week before they go unexpectedly.

I would love to write loads about the one I built, but I don't have time at the moment, feel free to PM me at any point though. We've been camping for years and ended up with a small trailer because of the amount of gear we had. Then swapped all of that for a caravan, then a slightly newer one, and then in 2020 sold it for "strong" money. I've wanted to buy and convert a van for 15+ years, mainly so I can go to Le Mans 24H race (still not happened, always during term time) and in Sept 2020 we bought exactly the van we have been looking for, a late 2004 long wheel base, high top Mercedes Sprinter, 129bhp, manual diesel. One of the last simple engines, limited electronics, less to go wrong, gets better mpg that my daily BMW X5 We had no idea about how to convert a van, loads of YouTube videos, books (Nate Murphy's is excellent) etc and now we have a 5 seater van that 4 of us (2 parents, 19yo and 17yo daughters) and 2 dogs can sleep in. We have a nearly king sized fixed bed (I'm 6'2"), large solar panel, 2 x large batteries, a proper sized fridge, sink with running water (soon to be hot water too), windows, roof light, led lights, USB sockets, projector etc etc. We can go fully off grid for as long as we want and when in Scotland normally do for a night or 2 at time. I don't think it will ever be finished, there is always jobs to do with it, or tweaks, but that's why we love it, it's an ongoing project. Also, because it's not perfect showroom condition (I painted it, outdoors with a roller) we don't mind if it gets scratched going down lanes. Anyway, that's it, off to France for two weeks over the summer, just the 3 of us, no dogs

Google based prep school, 300 pupils, one small server just to run papercut. DHCP via Sophos firewall 4 Windows PCs, local user, Google Drive setup. Simple, nothing complicated, can never see myself running a Windows domain again, here or anywhere else.

Don't even consider it, make it happen. There are lots for sale as the covid builds are now coming up. We built our own and although don't make enough use of it, when we do it's wonderful. Happy retirement!

I didnt look at the running costs of the heated version, but surely that's got to be considered. It should be less than running the central heater for the whole house though
-
Run them through https://handbrake.fr, easy and normally pretty quick
-
What make/model did you get (did you get a heated version)? https://www.permagard.co.uk/nuaire-drimaster-eco-lc - no heat How big is your house? Average 3 bed with downstairs extension. Late 40s but since had double glazing, cavity wall and loft insulation fitted How did you wire it up? Had a sparky do it. He took a feed off the hall ceiling light Where is the placement of the vent in the house? Upstairs landing. In the dead of night, we can just hear the pump, but otherwise you would not know it was on. It's currently running at speed 3 of 5.

Took my time, but had ours fitted last week. Noticed a difference with condensation on windows within 24 hours. 72 hours later, all gone!

I've finally got round to replacing Server 2012r2 with Ubuntu on my home server. I held out for as long as possible, but once Chrome started moaning that it won't update anymore I thought it was about time! One thing I'm struggling with is finding a remote access solution I'm happy with. I used to RDP from any device (phone or work pc etc) but now I've setup RDP on Ubuntu I need to be signed out of the device before it connects. What other options have I got?
-
I've happy with roombookingsystem.co.uk it's not cheap, but it works, no hassle. Links to our Google accounts so staff don't need to muck around with another login.

It's their personal device, not something you/your school have set up. Pass this onto HoY, DSL and or Head and let them deal with it as a discipline issue and not an IT problem.
-
Yeah, box on the wall, but the quote of £2k to convert it got me looking at other options. Well, as well as fielding everyone else's 2p worth too.
