Anyone know if it's possible anywhere along the chain to block the students logging in to Microsoft accounts online unless they end with our domain? We have at our disposal AD, Impero, Netsweeper, and AzureAD syncing. We block outlook.com anyway so they can't use their own email, but they can use our OWA. Thank you Stuart

Currently sitting on a 35mb Internet connection, 675 pupils. It actually copes surprisingly well! Got a price in May to upgrade to 100mb leased line and it would mean a £2k pa increase. I've now got to a place where I think we should do it and have justified the cost increase, gone back to my provider to be told there has been some re-zoning and now it's a £3k increase pa. Harder to justify.........

I have a Fujitsu / PRIMERGY RX200 S6 with 96GB RAM, 2 x Intel Xeon E5620 @2.40GHz and 5x 300GB 10K SAS disks doing nothing. Thought I might run it on that. Has anyone used something like MineOS? Worth it or not really? Stuart

Hi all, We run Windows 10, Server 2012 R2 (soon to be 2016) and our computers all have WOL working as we can wake them using Impero. Everything used to be fine under Windows 7 but now computers just seem to not be doing updates unless we go to them and tell them to. Would anyone be prepared to show me their GPO settings from a similar environment, obviously changing server names if appropriate, so I can compare please? Thank you Stuart

Very common if you have a PROXY. There's even a group policy to turn it off. Computer Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Network>Network Connections>Do not show the "local access only" network icon

We just use LTSC, and then a registry key to turn Photo Viewer back on.

The ping will always reply with the correct IP, the issue sometimes is then if you type ping -a machinesIP it then returns a different computer name. Always worth doing a ping -a xx.xx.xx.xx. Stuart

As I got told on an EduGeek thread recently;

If you ping a computer name to get its IP, then ping -a theIPyougotback, do you get the same computer name? Could be stale DNS records.

"I can't teach, the projectors broke!" here usually means they haven't pressed Windows P and need telling for the umpteenth time........

Yup, it costs money. If the kids come along and already have their own minecraft account, it doesn't.

We'd like a Minecraft club here, but just a standard Minecraft not the education edition. We just want a club where kids who already have their own Minecraft account come in after school, play about and then go home. Anyone else do this? I wouldn't have them accessing external servers. Do you host your own server or make them play standalone and then "Open to LAN" if they choose? If you host, do you use one which can hold more than one world? Can you restrict it somehow so you don't get some annoying kid sticking dynamite everywhere cos it's funny? Is there a reason not to have such a club? Thanks Stuart
