Can echo this. I'm not a gamer myself, but I've been inside the BM's Son's PS4 several times now. I had it for a replacement of the the stock 5400 500GB HGST drive as it was obviously failing, replacing it with 7200 500GB and then a couple of years later upgrading it to a 2TB SSD I can confirm games load noticeably faster, actual system updates - next to no difference. I'm pretty convinced that the the actual computing hardware in a PS4 is at best average - it's all GPU!

We had 8 Viewsonic 65s and had no end of problems with them. * Touch would stop working randomly - pull usb put it back in and it worked again for a couple of days, * Inputs would stop seeing perfectly legitimate signals - you could pull VGA, put it in another screen and it would work - if you turned the board off at the switch, left it for a few seconds and turned it back on it would recognize the signal immediately, HDMI over 5m would result in artefacts on the screen where it hadn't on the Smart 4065 they'd replaced. * Leaving a board on freeze for more than 5 minutes would frequently cause the board to stop responding completely requiring a hard reboot. * Very bright sunlight would cause spurious touch input. We had engineers from Viewsonic out twice in 6 months and they did cure the freeze issue with a firmware update done off a stick, but the rest of the issues remained and eventually our distributor caved and swapped all of them for ex-display BenQs for free. Those boards are are still going.

We're a large Primary... Between myself, the BM & Exec Head, we are the Marketing Dept. For my sins I have a background in graphic design so the 'Any Other Duties As Required' drum gets banged pretty hard around here.

I'm already doing that for other self-hosted externally available systems so it's not actually that much of an issue to add another website to the list - the current websites were bought in before we moved from a motley collection of servers and desktop PCs as a back-end to a proper set of HA servers and SAN - we actually host services for other schools. I might want someone to design it for me though.

Right, I suspect this will be one of those questions with no good answer, but I'm going to ask it anyway. We currently have a website built by an e-marketing company who have since fallen out with our Trust, leaving the support of our site in the hands of the capable, but overstretched Trust technicians. We were growing unhappy with the site anyway as developments such as not having to FTP content and link to it in the CMS, new versions of the wysiwyg editor and more template control did not appear as promised (we weren't the only ones). The site is basically handcoded with a few commercial bolt-ons and is not easy to use, hence most updates end up in the lap of IT when they shouldn't need to. I've got a couple of quotes from companies who specialise in sites for schools - the usual suspects - and they all come in around the same price per site with a hosting package added on. The prices I'm being quoted are fairly high and I'm being asked to ensure they're absolutely the best value being that this falling-out is not a budgeted-for change! Enough back story... The question here is... Do I go with one of the usual suspect bespoke suppliers. Do I go Wordpress and host it in the cloud Do I go Wordpress and self host Do I go Drupal or Joomla and self host. I've got bandwidth and server capacity in spades, and I've used all of the options before and it's not clear which is the best option, they all have pros and cons! Thoughts?

I've been asked to replace a projector with a screen, which is fine, I do that multiple times a week at the moment! Due to the layout of the room we currently use miles of trailing cable. These cables are an issue and always have been, it's been replaced multiple times after being damaged in use. Can someone recommend me a *reliable* wireless display dongle? I've used a couple of cheap eBay dongles in the past and they've been practically unusable. The screen is an NEC if a dedicated dongle exists for it? We will need to primarily cast Windows and Mac/iOS devices, Android is less of a concern.

I'm not on the site I've done it from, but I have a powershell script which runs for each user on login, checks to see if the installed version is the same as the one about to be installed, if it isn't, it runs the installer from a network location with the silent switch. I've not seen any issues doing this, it seems to just overwrite whats there.

We threw ours away and went Unifi. The only thing I will say is if you consider that as a route - as a current Ruckus user to get a signal range vaguely similar you'll need the Access Point U6 Long-Range.

I do all of it, so all the files for classroom remain in a single google drive for easy visibility.

Yes, absolutely. I've only got it on a couple of unsupported devices and due to the difficulty of updating it I'm pushing all my schools into hardware replacement cycles that end in all windows devices being native 11 compliant by September '26 (I'd hoped for December '25 but the budget says no.)

Mine just did it automatically and other than a few changes to location of settings and slightly updated look and feel to certain things, like the print queue, there are no real differences.

Just go latest... Unless you have an incredibly specific requirement there is no reason not to.

Yes - and they seem to be becoming available for older devices as well. We've had new firmware appear in windows update for devices from as far back as 2014.

I'm deploying an increasing number of Android tablets into one of my schools... I thought I'd got it the way I wanted it, but I've needed to make a couple of tweaks - including the addition of background apps like gboard into the managed play store for updates, but the tweaks don't seem to appear as actionable on the device. I've done several policy syncs and it's now been over 3 hours since I made the changes but none of them seem to appear? If I deploy a new device, or reset an existing one the changes are included.

That wasn't far wrong for me though... When I was NM i only managed servers, switches and client devices - I didn't get involved in other computer based stuff. as soon as 'Systems Manager' arrived as a title I got lumbered with oversight of practically everything that involved a computer.

I jumped ship from a 'senior tech, stepped up to Network Manager' position when they refused to give me the NM title and the 10k a year pay hike citing 'lack of experience' despite having performed exactly the same function as the NM for 18 months... I went to NM post in a single primary, I then acquired a technician and a second school and was made 'ICT Systems Manager' and then was rented out to another school so I now look after 3 schools with 1 technician. The difference for me between Senior Tech, NM and Systems Manager roles has been personnel management, strategy requirements and the number of IT based based but curriculum-side systems I've had to get involved with. As a Senior Tech or NM things like MIS, Safeguarding software, assessment systems etc, would have been someone else's responsibility. I've had budget responsibility the whole time.
