I would always use the import routine - it's what it's there for and much quicker than exporting marksheets and reimporting. If you can include UPNs on the sheet you are importing it's even easier.

It's under ethnicity on my Student Details screen?
-
I'd be really surprised if this was happening to our parents - we have 1750 students too and over 1200 using the Gateway, I am sure we would have know by now. I do think there is a design fault though in that I have spoken to an absent parent asking me to change his address as on the app under 'My Details' it shows his own phone number and email but the child's address. I have spoken to SC and this is apparently how it is supposed to be (personally I think there should be a tab for My Details, and one for My Child's details) but it does explain the number of update details I have received that are already correct when I look in Sims.

[SIMS] Adding Period field to Lesson Marks?
SouthCoastSaint replied to Brattcave's topic in MIS Systems
Does 'Deal With Missing Marks' in the Lesson Monitor menu not give you all this info? -
[sims] Student Details - Registration Groups "[1]" added to Group

All your posts are bound to be in the new (improved) supportnet somewhere. Whether the search facility will manage to bring any of them up is another matter -
Mine is all working fine, but I see that message if I click the Curriculum button when I am in the allocation screen on a cluster. What are you actually trying to do when you see that message?

Have you changed your academic year in Tools - Academic Year? There are a few places that the new students don't show (bulk print of timetables for example) if you are not in next year.

Is anyone using Schoolcomms payments and also selling Vatable items like equipment? Our finance team are trying to work out how we would administer this - Tucasi allows for it, but SC doesn't.

I have just received an email from Capita saying: As per our recent communication advising the SIMS 7.170 and FMS 6.170 Summer 2016 Release is now available for you, I wanted to remind you that in order for this be made available to you on SOLUS3, you need to log a case to the SIMS Support Desk, providing your school name and DfE number and/or school postcode. We always use Solus3 and to my knowledge we download it - I don't recall ever logging a case. Is this a new thing? Surely we all need the upgrade so why wouldn't it be available to all?

If I understand you correctly, this should work. Call your formula column Colour or something generic, and make it hidden. At the bottom of your NITE formula, make sure you complete the 'also colour column' and put your mastery one in there. Apologies if I have misunderstood what you are trying to do.

Try opening a template, that might prompt the Ampark process to begin.

We have been using Schoolcomms for years now, and to an extent changed the way we record our contacts when we changed over - parents/carers with PR are always 1 & 2. (An absent parent with no email address will be No 3, but that's because we choose not to send paper copies to absent parents when we email). We tick to import 1&2 with PR. It seems to work well for us, I have never been told anyone can see someone else's children (we have Gateway now too with over 1000 signups).

Like these features - one of those that seems so simple but makes a big difference! An Export button has been provided on the Student Assessment Results Detail page, enabling the data to be exported to Microsoft Excel. The Student Assessment Results Detail page is accessible by clicking the Assessment link in the Links panel on the right-hand side of the Student Details page. Ability to Export Examination Results to Excel from the Student Links panel Focus | Student | Student Details An Export button has been provided on the Student Examination Results Detail page, enabling the data to be exported to Microsoft Excel. The Student Examination Results Detail page is accessible by clicking the Examinations link in the Links panel on the right-hand side of the Student Details page.

ParentPay - Anyone else adversely affected by the payment changes?
SouthCoastSaint replied to pete's topic in MIS Systems
Actually featured on 5Live this morning! -
We had a demo of Sims Activities that sadly couldn't have gone much worse. The website wasn't working so we had to be talked through features. All the things we asked for that it couldn't do (and there were many, some really basic functions), were apparently going to be written in over time. The trouble was, it wasn't cheap and we were told repeatedly that the incredibly cheap price we would be paying initially was due to lack of features - implication being that the price would rise considerably on renewal.

[sims] Exams Organiser - "Automation Error"
SouthCoastSaint replied to Sam_Brown's topic in MIS Systems
I raised a ticket making it clear that the ticket was just to let them know that we upgraded using Solus3 and contrary to Phil's assurance that it couldn't happen with Solus3 it did. I had a call from the team telling me to rename SimsOld and re-install. Buisness analylists have asked for log files from server and client from the upgrade day now. -
Just searched for the error on Supportnet, and my old case comes up - in May 2014 this occurred using Solus3 and I tried to let Capita know then... Automation error when opening exams "Sims has been redeployed via Solus 3 and I still can't access Exams. Activities Created: 07/05/2014 09:10:47 by CRM SupportNet Integration Service Capita Incident Reference: 1405-1301672 Hi Sally, Thank you for your query. When you re-deploy via SOLUS, please ensure that Exams Organiser and SIMS.net are closed. It won't work if they're both open on the affected workstation(s) when you re-deploy."
-
Spring upgrade applied yesterday. I saw the Solus3 notification pop up and the upgrade go through. I was NOT in Sims at all. Today on attempting to log in to exams, I see the automation error. I can't believe it's still happening!

What sort of documents are you exporting from AM7? We have a couple of teachers with different preferred names, and when I pull through class teacher on individual reports, it picks up what the teacher is called in Manage Classroom Staff. In any case, we choose the one with format Mrs S. Smith, so first name doesn't show. I can't think of anywhere that reports show legal names.

[sims] Slow (even slower) individual reports
SouthCoastSaint replied to SouthCoastSaint's topic in MIS Systems
One report took 2:09 to generate, about half of the time it was retrieving tags, then after that generating. No picture in the report, I did have bullet points which I have removed. I can't see how my report is that much more complicated than when i was able to manage them reasonably, so it can only be assumed it's our system. -
[sims] Slow (even slower) individual reports
SouthCoastSaint replied to SouthCoastSaint's topic in MIS Systems
Hi Bob, Ran them on the server and was no quicker than on my pc which would indicate either my template or Sims in general. We have had instances of Sims grinding to a halt at various times and yet when i look at the Sims server, the CPU is running nice and low so that may be worth exploring. My template - I would say it's not over large or complicated, but size is all relative, so I am unsure. 1st page - 15 subjects, 4 tags each plus class teacher, 15 PE sport tags, and 4 misc tags. 2nd Page - 15 subjects, 2 tags each. 3rd Page, 15 subjects, 4 tags each. Does that count as large? As these are Year 7, I dread to think how long to generate a year 10 or 11 one with 36 subjects. -
I appear to have hit a new low with my reports. Would really welcome any suggestions or fixes. Have had a new Sharp printer installed (MC-C312) which means that at the moment I am unable to print individual reports directly from Sims. Report generates, then shows in print queue as spooling but the printer generated box that I have to click to say yes to my code never appears. (This is an aside as the slowness problem would still be there even if the printer was working). Anyway, last night, I ran a year group of 360 individual reports to export to a folder. I started them before 3pm and ran them directly from the Sims server. I have come in this morning to see they didn't finish until 00.14. I know I have a lot of tags but SURELY this can't be right. I have another 4 year groups to run, even just re-printing the odd one takes so long, it's not fit for purpose. Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can speed up the process? Thanks for any help.

The two areas updated that caught my eye are small but useful - looking forward to easily deleting all those ancient reports. New Features Changes to Report Privacy Permissions Focus | System Manager | Manage Groups The SIMS System Manager can now view reports that are marked as private and owned by other users. Access to these reports can also be granted to other users so that their ownership can be re-assigned, or for the purpose of updating or deleting the reports. Enhancements to Report Ownership Reports | Design Report It is now possible to search for reports with a specific owner by clicking the Owner folder. If you have the required permissions, you can now delete or re-assign ownership of reports, regardless of privacy status. Addition of Pupil Premium Option to Student List Reports Reports | Student List | General Student List Reports | Student List | Class List Reports | Student List | Registration Group List It is now possible to select Pupil Premium as an additional data field on the output of all Student List reports.

(SIMS) Data Checking! What is your method?
SouthCoastSaint replied to andrewdeegan's topic in MIS Systems
I have a subject list for each year. On deadline day, I go through each subject marksheet and check if complete, cross subject off my list if it is, make a note of the class codes & teachers if not. That way I have a starting point when I check again. When my DHT asks how data is going I have a list to hand with all offenders showing in one place. Not quick, but quicker than printing and seeing gaps too late. When I last used the missing grades report, it didn't really work for us as it showed duplicate results for subject leaders and class teachers. Has this improved since does anyone know? -
Schoolcomms integrates with Sims attendance so you can use it for first response, the same as Keep Kids Safe. The messages inward can also be written straight back to Sims. In my opinion, all general emailing and texting could be done via Insight, but at the moment it's not quite as user friendly for wildcards, and the paper copies list. As we pay for Schoolcomms for the attendance aspect, we have continued to use it for all our communications home.
