  1. When you post a notice on Insight, you get the option email parents and/or students a copy of that notice. It's not quite so easy to use as Schoolcomms (our email package), for example the wildcard feature is not a simple for teachers, but it does work.
  2. If the error is searched before logging the particular case as expected, the KB62140 Automation Error when accessing Exams Organiser will display, so the vast majority of people won't get as far as logging the case. That KB is dated 2012 and says *usually* caused by exams being open.
  3. Just what I was thinking Zag. It's one of those things that we know HOW to solve, it's just a pain. Wouldn't dream of logging a case about such an old well-known problem. Which would explain the small number Capita have had recently.
  4. Depending on what you need it for, I have a panel on my homepage that shows all detention sessions scheduled - from today to the future.
  5. Ok - so what we are doing already. My original point was just that people are much more sloppy with their typing than with their writing!
  6. How does it check home telephone numbers, lots of grandparents only have these, not mobiles. And work numbers?
  7. How does Groupcall cope with contacts that have no parental responsibility? For us as Schoolcomms users, these contacts have no place in Schoolcomms at all, is Groupcall slightly different?
  8. Seriously? 350 students, with 2+ emergency contacts as well as 2 parental ones in most cases... The best I do is email and text those numbers/emails for anyone with parental responsibility at the same time as a check to ensure both are received.
  9. How do you validate when someone types 885 instead of 886 in a neighbour's phone number?
  10. I picked email address, but it could just as easily be a mobile number, postcode, house number, medical details.. Can't easily validate all that when we collect 4 contacts for most parents, or can we? Just seems to take more time working out what they mean compared to when I used handwritten forms.
  11. Much as I love all things automated and electronic - we have collected our registration forms electronically for the past 3 years (not imported into Sims, that's my job), we produce a mailmerge form - I find the accuracy of what is typed in is really poor compared to handwritten sheets. Easy to spot if they have typed gmial.com but harder to know a mistake in a random email address or phone number. The only improvement is it's typed so no handwriting to decipher.
  12. Brilliant. Says Hantssif, so it's County grabbing data. Thanks.
  13. Our Sims has become unusable this afternoon, we can't even log in. The only thing running on the server is Groupcall Emerge Service and I am not sure what we have that would use this. We obviously have the Xporter running for county data and thrid party apps, but we don't have Emerge so I don't know why it's running. Does a third party product use this?
  14. We do ask for a general overview of the student, but this is to decide which house leader and tutor it would be prudent to place them with. Our admissions go through County anyway so even if our Head were to try to block someone (which she never would), it wouldn't be possible.
  15. It's from June 2014 so it might be years before Capita get to it. I won't hold my breath.
  16. Insight - parents can set their own password first time of using and then there is a button to click to reset it automatically (lately for us I do get a few parents reporting this doesn't work for them but as my children are no longer at school I can't check that). Insight doesn't allow marksheet entry, we give access to Sims for staff via remote apps.
  17. We use Insight (previously SLG). I was talking to a parent yesterday and she gave me unsolicited feedback - she said she is getting used to all the systems - Tucasi, Frog and Insight. Insight was the one she uses all the time, she loves it, and most of all she said how clear and easy it was to navigate. It's all good to have an all singing all dancing look to a site, but the whole idea is for parents and students to use it. If they can't navigate easily round the site, they will give up which rather defeats the object. Insight's side menu is so clear and straightforward, it's pretty much idiot proof. (We rename our menu items to our own titles).
  18. Make sure show all is ticked, then put the from date back to 2009 or similar and refresh, they should all be together down the bottom.
  19. We run one every night for all tutors showing them merits to date. Once you get the server bit sorted in the windows task scheduler, it runs automatically via Sims. Ours took a bit of tweaking, mainly making sure the account and password it's using is correct. What I don't like is having to make 77 of the same report, one for each tutor group and assigning each to the relevant tutor. Teachers need to make sure they have My Scheduled Reports as a panel on their home page. I always tick to delete previous report otherwise no one deletes and you get 100 reports on each. I make one for me too so I can see if it's run every morning.
  20. Hi Phil Thank you for offering to look - I did think about not posting here as I didn't want the post to look like it was aimed for you. I am happy to take it up again tomorrow with the desk, I suspect a miscommunication has happened. It's not helped by the fact that our network manager is new and not familiar with Discover and how/where it is installed.
  21. Apologies for letting off steam, but I am left longing for the good old days when you spoke to support people on the phone. We logged a ticket, we were asked to provide log files. Today I sent a polite reply saying that the Network Manager was unable to locate the files, could they please help... and the reply I get says: The Sims Service desk primarily provide an email/telephone support service and only use a remote session once all other support avenues have been exhausted. Please provide the information requested so that we can investigate further. As I mentioned that we can't FIND the info requested, I am really not sure where we go from here! I haven't yet composed my reply.
  22. Value Added target has a column filled in with EM which you could use. It also has value added (I don't use these though). I use the Progress 8 screen to import the progress 8 screen and Results Overview would give number of A*-Cs.
  23. I pull in my 4Matrix columns into Sims specifically to produce war board type individual reports including progress 8 scores. No help at all though if you don't use 4matrix, sorry.
  24. If it's this option though, right clicking on one of the results that is updating and selecting View/Edit result history, you will see a template name to point you to the place where the result was entered or calculated.
