  1. We had a written agreement which we knew wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Welsh Government have made money available to replace any damaged laptops as long as we have evidence of serial numbers with signatures.
  2. Timetabler is more capable than Nova, has good support and is reasonably priced.
  3. Apparently Hwb Office 365 isn't connected to AD, so it would seem SDS won't be connected to auto create class teams. Seems like a backward step. We're all fed up to the back teeth here of the constant confusion and extra work that having two email accounts for everyone causes. I'm also worried about the loss of features and control if we were to migrate. Make the simplest request and Welsh Government want written permission from the Head.
  4. Did you get the latest version of the Salamander tool that is compatable with Microsoft's latest changes? I just did the same and pupils were all pulled through and into classes.
  5. The newest SDS currently creates the teams and populates them but doesn't make them live for staff to see them until you manually do it, to save resources with lots of teams that may never be used.
  6. There was a bug the last two or three days that affected team editing in the backend that was fixed for us yesterday. All hunky dory now.
  7. We issued a few machines before we broke up after assessing needs. We'd pretty much worked through what we could spare. With this new directive the rest of the kit not in use is now fair game and we've started issuing more. We are also thinking about giving the learners with zero home access isolated machine use in the key worker crèche.
  8. Creating huge classes seems like a bad idea. We had the same. How then do you manage a whole year group? Staff to pupil ratios need to be considered. One company we use for remote learning have a maximum class size of 12. Teachers can still be owners of several teams as imported from SDS and teach in them all at once if they really want to do that. We have one lesson for year 7 science that's normally taught by the same teacher. The other science teachers were drafted in to support him and LSAs too.
  9. Guest Access works well for us. Just copy the guest email address into the meeting invite and they can dial straight into that meeting without having any deeper access into that team. Likewise you can add them into the team in the same way. It's not possible to give guests as much access as your own users so they can never be team owners and create teams, for example. We collaborate with two other local high schools and students join each school's Teams with their native accounts. We also have our primary cluster staff joining the cluster high school meetings.
  10. The app? Insights
  11. Teams has built in reporting but I'm struggling to find useful data beyond how many messages, posts, meetings users have made. There's also an app that owners can install in channels that reports time stats for users so that information is there to be mined.
  12. I remember a scheme 20 years ago. The local authority purchased what the learners picked from a list of hardware options. Each order was at least £1k. A broadband deal was added. After a short period of time the LA farmed out all but purchasing to local private businesses. I guess we just sit back and wait to see what we get. I think our school will get a centrally built image ready to go. Run it like a lease scheme.
  13. Skype is being discontinued and merged into Teams I think
  14. Easier (way fewer users) to create a duplicate policy with chat on, and apply it to staff Then change the default policy with all chat turned off - this will apply to all pupils - - - Updated - - - Yes Chat is either on or off??
  15. Thank you very much for those suggestions will give them a try.
  16. We were sending DVD movie clips over it for the class to work with.
  17. "Advanced" features such as sharing videos didn't work in the web version for us. Needed to d/l the desktop version for that
  18. I have exactly the same problem, so very sad no answers have appeared yet! Any luck? Or any one else have any pointers please? Thanks!
  19. Aren't some tests already going to be moved over to Hwb in the near future? I live in hope that these will be of the hands off variety that we rarely get. At least most kids here now know their Hwb logins since we rolled out Minecraft Exams in Minecraft - that's what it'll be!
  20. On my route there's a 30 out of a village. No houses but a steep hill out and unfortunately the National Speed Limit sign is part way up the steep hill. Most people take a run up to the hill which can mean you're clocking 45 just before the NSL sign. Grossly unfair and pollution generating IMHO. Of course if the police are there, it's going to be at that precise spot. Luckily I usually start early and finish late so not so lucrative to catch people.
  21. Canon Pixma MG3200 printer connects to Technicolor TG582n router using WiFi (WPS setup). I can manage it from the router and have set it with a static IP in the same range and with the same subnet mask as the WiFi connected laptops. I can't see the printer or ping it from the 2 laptops. I haven't tried pinging the laptops from each other. I can't see quickly that the router has isolation mode as an option. Both the laptops (and other mobile devices) have MacAfee free version installed which is about to expire and be jettisoned. Firewalls are on. I tried temporarily disabling the firewall one one laptop without success. Everything works kushdi connected via USB. It has worked previously although flakily at times. Any suggestions please?
  22. /off topic Our WiFi SSID is actually macadamia
  23. For info, the settings file is here: C:\ProgramData\SIMS\SIMS Services Manager\Settings.xml
