  1. INSTANT FAMILY US tear jerker as my dad would have said. I like an emotional romp so this was good. COLD PURSUIT Got to love Liam Neeson. Nice it was a seemingly ordinary hero. Comical death tally. Quirky but enjoyable.
  2. Sorry to resurrect an old thread My issue with having a name and photo of especially younger pupils is that if they lost their cards out of school, someone could approach them and know their name and lure them into a false sense of security and then entice them to go with them with this information. Perhaps agree that it's not a GDPR issue rather a Safeguarding one.
  3. These are paid for by the school for use in school. The teacher has decided, because it's what they did in the past, to hand them out freely again. Like I said... it was ok when it was old laptops that were surplus. Now the bursar is tightening the purse strings and at the same time donating laptops to pupils.
  4. The intention is to loan them for the rest of the academic year at least. Yes fundraising would be good. We're already stretched but you never know. The governors don't know yet. I'm going to push this through the Head of IT to manage the policies and permissions, that will then go to governors for approval. Lunchtime clubs are already a thing, and pupils can borrow laptops in school. Some pupils have their own laptops, the 6th formers use those in school but we can't install the s/w onto them without taking them over and joining them to the domain. Teacher doesn't want that. Next year we could emphasise that to pupils taking the subject - to buy a laptop through the school that we'll set up for them. Licences permitting (we have 25. 16 used on desktop PCs).
  5. It's the specific version of the software that doesn't open old/free version files [emoji6] It's pretty integral to the GCSE course. You could use alternate open source programs that use the same file format with a little effort from the pupils. He has suggested it but had no takers. Initially only a couple of kids went for it but when the rest saw that it was a good thing they all wanted one. Unfortunately he only had a handful to give out. Management ok'd a couple of spares for the cause that I need for exams, teacher spares.
  6. They're getting a lot of support at the moment. The laptops are locked down/ only I can install software. RDS? Who pays: the school of the parents don't want to.
  7. The teacher asked pupils if they wanted them. He only had a handful to hand out. AFAIK this isn't the poorest pupils.
  8. This problem is irking me way more than it should. I need to sound it out with informed people to work out what I think. We have a very successful teacher, amazing results, who has in the past had the luxury of issuing laptops to pupils to take home to do homework. Since upgrading to Windows 10 we no longer have a stock of junk for this purpose. Now we only just have what we need with many teachers wanting more which we can't afford. Unfortunately the software won't run on anything older that Windows 10, and pupils can't afford the licence themselves. So this teacher is giving laptops to pupils to keep at home. I make that work, and kill networking in the BIOS. No agreement is drawn up, as he feels he can trust the pupils. Just a letter asking the parents if they mind. If the pupils can't do the homework, grades will suffer. It's unfair to penalise pupils because of their financial situation, but if there's no money that's a tough fact of life. Opinions please.
  9. Have you tried the Hikvision mobile app/ would your SMT use that? I find it tons better than the desktop version. Really fast, easy to use, and I think you can restrict users. Maybe setup bluestacks on a desktop and try it?
  10. Yep that's how I read it. Don't see the need myself. We're already signed up for GSuite. The LA bought O365 for us. j2e seems to be for primary schools...
  11. Glass - You can't fail to be impressed by James McAvoys schizophrenic switches. Anything with Samuel Jackson and Bruce Willis had to be a hit for me... not a full screen tho sadly. Alita - obviously benefited from an advertising campaign. Every viewing absolutely packed. Technically brilliant and not a bad story at all. 2 top class movies. Thoroughly enjoyed.
  12. We've had this as part of a template for schools to adopt for pupils to use the Welsh Government site HWB. Pupils have to login to use the upcoming mandatory numeracy and literacy tests, which require no permissions. The additional services (Office365, GStuite, j2e (itself serving a host of other applications etc)) require parental permissions. I wonder if the various platforms should be granted permission individually rather than with a cover all once signature. Am I wrong?? "Additional services If you agree, Welsh Government can also provide [you/your child] with access, via the Hwb platform, to a variety of additional services which are provided by other organisations. These include online learning environments such as Hwb Classes, Microsoft Office 365, Google for Education, and other relevant educational tools and resources. Welsh Government is making these additional services available to help [you/your child] access educational resources. These additional services are centrally funded and there is no cost for you or for your school to access and use them."
  13. How true
  14. I think you hit the nail on the head with public liability cover. During business hours that completely rules out non officially sanctioned work.
  15. Passivhaus standard insulation etc. Optimum position and location to best utilize natural energy. Naturally airy, fresh and warm. Inset trunking with draw wires. Motion sensors wherever possible instead of switches.
  16. The request was for VA And we're in Wales [emoji3525]
  17. I don't see why. The phone is just a remote and isn't used once playback begins. You've got no storage to download and play, but that's never been a problem for me.. I always stream.
  18. lol went to see it the other day. Funny in parts. Distasteful in others (I don't like push the boundaries humour aka Deadpool 1 so your mileage may vary). Bordering mostly on corny. Piss take of Sherlock Holmes movie 2009 with the slow mo fight scenes. Several references to drug abuse which seemed to tickle some in the audience. Classic Will Ferrell really. Cinema was full. Bumblebee was sold out so maybe those wanting a night out regardless. No one walked out anyway.
  19. IR charged £80 for a very difficult recovery that took two days. Very worthwhile IMO.
