We have a decent PA system in the school hall - but would never use that for music exams - we only have half a dozen pupils at a time at most!! Teach did buy a mixer recently. And some monitor speakers. Would they be of any use (I'll get details)
-
Thanks very much We usually have it the one small room here, although the ability to re-locate might go down well. Music just spent a £5k grant - shame they didn't spec a decent setup out of that. I'm not into audio hardware at all - any particular make to look out for?

Aldi/ Lidl regularly have oil filled radiators for around the £25 mark. CPC have one too. I have one with a timer (from Screwfix - another cheap alternative/ they often have them on offer this time of year) - useful if you want to go into a warm room at regular times. -
A little peed off here that when asked expressed no interest in keeping our old video conferencing setup - quite comprehensive well specced kit if 20+ years old now. Now we're saying that he's never heard a better setup for music exams and we need to buy a state of the art replacement with excellent stereo separation. I spent a day untangling the old loom. It predates me, and no one here knew how it was put together besides turning it all on and controlling it via an LCD touch screen media control device. Music teacher tried to put it together last year but blew the amp (hopefully that just a small fuse) and thought one of the satellite speakers was blown. We resorted to a HiFi system borrowed from a friend. So anyway... (sorry for the long post) ..what to people do? For languages we've been successfully using laptops with user supplied headphones. Do you have a dedicated system? Thanks

I extracted the subtitles to the MP4 so they should be in there - exploring
-
Just .BUP .IFO and .VOB
-
If I play the DVD straight in VLC, the subtitles are off until you select English or Welsh.. and then it's perfect.
-
If I move the subtitles up 100px, the embedded subtitles move too. So they can't be hardcoded?
-
Could be. Trying again with the option set to position at the top. It must work with a regular DVD player!

I have a DVD I need to transfer to Mp4 to play over a network. The DVD is in Welsh with subtitles in Welsh for the few Spanish language parts The teacher wants everything subtitled in English, but I can't find the setting in VLC to disable the Welsh and have only English. The two languages overlay and become unreadable. Am I missing something? Thanks

I'd been with PlusNet over 20 years. Not had a problem to speak of but then never contact them by phone, always by ticket. Tried Mobile WiFi on 3 and I'm getting twice the speed minus the line rental and a little less for unlimited data (others have pushed it to 1Tb without warnings). Cancellation was a nightmare. Tried twice by phone and had to insist on chat as I was losing my rag with them. I'm usually very hard to wind up. I received emails saying that I hadn't cancelled the line and would be charged rental to keep it open, despite being re-assured several simtes that it was ceased/ dead/ terminated/ no longer chargeable. Finally I got confirmation that the line was now truly ceased, so rested easy. My phone still rings because it's still connected with the same number.

We just got Signinapp. Is there a way to automate the sign in when your mobile sees the WiFi SSID, launch the app and sign in. Ditto when you go out of range? Serial non clocker here. Used to be fine using a system that you could record times on afterwards via a web interface. Documentation on this app seems limited at best.

A teacher here has just asked about using this. It's advantage over every other system I've seen seems to be the ability to view several rooms at once.

We have a weird issue in SIMS. When a teacher saves a behaviour incident, the screen resolution in just the SIMS app, not the rest of the windows environment, jumps to some crazy small setting, and the only way to resolve it is to exit SIMS and log in again. The two laptops I've seen it on so far are Dells. Initial thoughts were video driver.. could it still be that? Thoughts appreciated!

Staff 1 & 2 can both see their own register If staff 1 wants to see staff 2s register they simply change to that register. Take register > search for staff 2.

[sims] Nova-T6: Force auto to schedule blocks against each other?
MkII replied to ajp233's topic in MIS Systems
Don't you do that by spanning both bands with the block? -
Website Translation plugin recommendation for Wordpress

You would think not wouldn't you!!! It's those damn English brutally enforcing the locals to stop speaking Welsh not so long ago. Apparently the English were unusual in wanting to destroy the local culture of any race they conquered rather than assimilate it. I used to work with a guy who was beaten with a Welsh Stick at school for speaking Welsh. This was primary school too! Those were the days. No impact except some very irate Plaid Cymru activists shutting us down. -

Website Translation plugin recommendation for Wordpress

Thanks TomHD Well most students and staff speak Welsh as well as English. I've not come across a Welsh person yet that can't speak English. I don't speak Welsh and I'm the only willing volunteer! If the site was in Welsh and auto-translated to English it wouldn't be a problem. I could edit that. I do have a lot of the content already translated. In my experience it's the software that's the problem. At least with GTranslate paid it's a very simple page at a time edit. No dual input fields strewn throughout the backend that don't quite cover everything that needs translating. I don't intend using Google's paid translation service to translate. It's too poor for that - just to let me edit the 2nd language. -
Website Translation plugin recommendation for Wordpress
MkII replied to MkII's topic in Web Development
Forgot to say... we have been trialling gtranslate (the paid version ~£70 per year) They say that the quality of translation is near to human standard but it's definitely not for the Welsh language anyway. It's good that you can edit what's there very easily.. the translation is cached by Google and works pretty seamlessly no matter how complex the underlying code, and for that alone it may just be worthwhile. I guess using a standard plugin.. like qtranslate, there's an awful mess created in the backend to manage. -
We're a bilingual school and need to have a bilingual website. We need to use Wordpress as free hosting is available to us for that. I was using qtranslate and it's various forks as support dropped off. I now think we need to find something more reliable and pay for it if necessary. Can anyone recommend a good plugin? Thanks

Edge is default although Reader also deployed. Some problems with Reader which are fixed by switching to Edge.
