Microsoft is building a Chromium-powered web browser that will replace Edge
mullet_man replied to Arthur's topic in IT News
Haha I still see the odd user running it. Once this new Edge works as I want it, I'll deploy it out to the whole school. -
I've never used Chromebooks so don't know this, can you use Microsoft apps? Office 365/Teams? The gov website mentions Google and Microsoft, I'd suspect you'd have a choice when you put in the order? If your a Google or Microsoft school?

Microsoft is building a Chromium-powered web browser that will replace Edge

Am using it on my work PC since the first build and it's been great, so just waiting on them making these changes. I do need to do a bit more testing like how well it copy over bookmarks from old Edge as got a few staff who have hundreds of bookmarks. -
It makes sense if it's an online portal schools order for the pupils and the devices are delivered straight to the pupils houses. If they go to the school, then that means breaking lockdown rules for staff, pupils and parents going into schools to setup, collect devices etc? I've worked long enough to remember a similar thing called Computers for Pupils scheme which provided laptops and 3G dongles to disadvantaged pupils and the device came to the school when they gave out the device. The trouble was the device was a laptop which wasn't top notch, the 3g connection was capped to I think a 1gig a month and then after a year it had to be paid for by their families. Will the broadband connections being offered be capped? Like you say so many questions, will interesting to find out what the criteria is? Disadvantaged for my school in Oldham could apply to most our pupils.

MSI here too, just be careful when upgrading the MSI as I had an issue once where the client was left in a strange installed but not installed state.

Microsoft Teams For education Live Lessons
mullet_man replied to supportman's topic in Cloud Services
Am using this script to get an list of who's Teams so far https://o365reports.com/2019/12/23/export-office-365-users-logon-history-report/ It seems to work OK, it does take a while to run if you choose a big window to return data from. So might be best to run it week by week. -
You can't do a live event we've found, meetings are fine but not a live event. I wish they'd allow showing more than 4 people on screen at once, I've seen its in development but you would have thought with all what's going on they'd have bumped it up the queue, the amount of schools that have jumped head first into Teams these last few weeks.

Tried quick assist on Friday and it worked fine. Just the 10 minute code ran out first time so you need to be quick.- 30 replies

Does anyone know if there is a PowerShell command that can export a list of who's currently logged into Teams? Or the last time they logged into Teams for that matter? We are trying to work out if we can see who is online when we get sent home, it would be good if this could be exported to Excel!? -
thanks! That's great yeah I just wanted to know the general setup, how does it work with class changes? There's ways kids moving sets here?

Sorry I thought you said you used iamcloud!?!
-
Does SSO work ok for Office? Edit: sorry reread your post, could it be an iamcloud issue maybe?
-
Am not sure our exact version too, are your UPNs the same as your email addresses?
-
Can someone share a screen shot of how SDS sets up the team's? How does each Team look inside the team? Just interested that's all because not sure if we rush and set up SDS (we have Salamander, does it set them up differently?) But don't want to get it all setup wrong that's all.
-
Not sure what's happening then? Did Teams install with office or did you install it via msi? Ours came with Office? Just wondering if they are different versions?
-
It doesn't show the login box for us it just auto logs in, what version of Office are you using? We moved to Office 365 ProPlus? Wondering if staff have already signed into that it pulls in for Teams maybe?
-
We use IAMCloud for our federation services and teams auto signs in for us? Have you got users UPN as there email addresses?

Ok so in preparation for closure we are testing staff using Teams and would like to create a meeting daily say at 12pm. The head teacher would create a meeting and send it out and then go live and everyone will log on and join. Simple? Of course not, we are testing and if we create a meeting from within teams you can't invite o365 email groups. If you use the create teams meeting in outlook and send it to the group people in the group were not getting any meeting requests? Am not sure if as we've just created groups there is some Azure 24 hour sync we need to wait to complete? Basically we want someone to be able to invite a whole staff group to attend a teams meeting and it be on their calendars so they are altered. When team's app is open shouldn't that alert you that you have a meeting in 5 mins or anything? Doing some more testing on Monday after its synced over the weekend!

On calendar, if you click new meeting down arrow and choose Live Event, we get this error about licenses -

It would also seem that as part of the free educational licensing you can't do a Live Event? Which in theory would solve the safeguarding issue of students on webcams? Bit of a shame it's not part of the free Teams for Education. -

I think Microsoft have started to tailor Teams for the classroom, you can choose a Class Teams when creating a new Team. -
Thanks. I'll take a look, not sure why they can't add a button in the Team's admin centre to disable teams creation.
