I agree ITIL/FITS is a framework, As TMCD outlines in his post everyone will implement these guidelines differently, and so they should. Although i dont get the impression that ITIL/FITS tells you how to structure IT Services within your organisation but what processes should be a part of that IT Service. It is up to you how you structure these processes in to the organisation.

...a Samsung N130 netbook at bett from Misco. had the email sat in my inbox for about 2 weeks, but didn't open it as it looked like a spam email and tbh toatally forgot being scanned! thankfully got prodded by my account manager today.

we've had 18 months of facebook, when you 1st unblock it not many people realise. but slowly peoples habbits change. now its like the students are at home, they login, logon to facebook, then start working. this week we just banned it for 5 days, but the kids who dont want to work still find something else to waste their time on (surprise surprise) the good kids have just returned to getting on with their work. Will feed back to see if the ban stays after half term with the looming coursework deadlines or if they are allowed access again, we'll see (SLT and Student Council will discuss 1st day of term)

anyone seen kids using https to access facebook? hard to believe it but we've just done a 5 day ban on facebook across the school(our head allows students to access it, was ok untill they came back after xmas almost all of them have come back as addicts), took some of them 36hrs to realise they could access pages via https://. going to have to check it out a bit more tomorrow and as a quick fix added a DNS zone for facebook which broke it nicely in the short term. I have a feeling this was due to SSL port being open on the firewall...... (we use DG/smoothwall express although 1 of toms lot is coming to see us soon ) but haven't had a real chance to look at it properly with my "senior" tech(18!) off sick this week.

The biggest thing to also consider is how long the item s are going to last, have a plan for replacing the items you buy. No point buying stuff that lasts 2-3 years if your budget isn't going to cope with replacing them. personally i would go smoothwall (paid for) although we currently run smoothwall (free version with DG) currently 360 days uptime due to some power tripping out in the server room! which reminds me tom, any chance of a demo to our SLT and a bod from our new college's project team? good point Dan, it might be that apple has something in the works that they aren't showing us. I hope so. I love my iphone, i love my macbook pro and i love my 30 inch cinema display (now running Windows 7 instead of vista!) i was really wanting a device bigger than the iphone but with OS X but smaller than my Macbook Pro but not as heavy as a macbook and not as expensive as an Air

i think like many people im a little disappointed, price point wise is bang on where i thought it should be and could have seen it work. Now personally i was hoping it to have some form of multi user environment (like the normal desktop o/s). that would make loaning the device and connecting it to a network with AD/OD easy peasy.
