The only issue with Unifi is it is very much proprietary, which is fine if you want to keep in the Unifi eco system ( similar to a few other solutions that is for sure). But it does not give many (if any) options if you want to manage with third party solutions. You are more or less locked into using their software.

Building a new vcenter of the same version in the new environment and restoring from a backup may be the next option. There are a few ways you can do this but you will need to get onto the appliance management console which is a different port and log in with the credentials used when setting up vcenter.

My neighbour got tested positive on Wednesday but he was on at risk group and has limited contact and no one living with him, 2-3 people delivering shopping but keeping 2m apart or leaving shopping on door step. Doesn't know how he got it. Went to ASDA on Thursday for shopping and noticed there were a lot less people wearing masks and more people completely ignoring the directional arrows, seems to me people are relaxing about the risks .

As far as I am aware Ubiquiti currently do not offer stacking or IP redundancy on switching, they had vrrp from what I was aware of on the EdgeRouter but that was a cli hack, so if you want to use as a layer 3 switch this may be a blow. You cannot go much wrong or any better than with a switch stack as a core in my opinion. Multiple Links/LAG/trunks could be shared between each member, no need for complicated spanning tree configurations to provide network redundancy, IP address is applied to stack rather than individual switches, no vrrp setup, etc.

All of a sudden I cannot access a EX4200 switch by its https web GUI, I can access it via ssh so no issues with routing IP etc. Tried multiple browsers. In the httpd.log I see the following error default:1 main Error: Can't find module sslModule default:1 main Error: Ignoring bad directive "LoadModule" at line 30 in /jail/var/etc/httpd.conf I'm no expert on Juniper switches, so struggling with this one. https access is only configured on the management interface. web-management { https { local-certificate my-signed-cert; interface vme.0; }

Fasthosts offer an exchange mailbox, domain names and hosting. Been using them for about a year now for email and longer for the domain. I think they can provide SSL certs as well for the hosting.

ES-16-XG as a layer 3 switch from what I am aware does not provide any layer 3 redundancy, even spanning tree is not without it's problems. If you are requiring IPv6 routing then you may need check as the 2 switches I had about a year ago did not support IPv6 layer 3 routing. I had 2 for home, junked them in favour of some 2930f's but they have limited 10Gb connections.

It is possible to use Ubiquti ES-16-XG as a core for layer 3 but it lacks any redundancy features for layer 3, they cannot be stacked, etc., etc. I wouldn't want to use it as a layer 3 in a school environment. I had 2 in my home network but ditched them as they did not support IPv6 routing at the time.

I'm in the same scenario at home, all my hosts are different CPU family so no option to vMotion which becomes a problem with vCenter. But should not be impossible to get around somehow :-)

Personally I'm not going to change my habits just yet. I'm in a position where I can work from home, I go out 4-5 times a week for runs and once for shopping. I live in a flat on my own, I miss the weekly Parkrun, socialising, contact with friends and relatives that is for sure but I am just not comfortable doing anything but what is absolutely necessary both from a point of passing anything on or getting the virus and unknowingly passing it on. I had the symptoms up to just over a month ago.

Veeam can either connect individually to hosts or to vcenter. I'd recommend keeping Veeam separate and on separate storage if possible maybe use one of the freed hosts? Regards vCenter, I'd take backup of config from existing vcenter management interface, Rebuild vcenter in the new environment and restore config from backup. Other options depending on your existing setup may include vmotion to new environment or even Veeam to restore vcenter to new environment (but that may depend on how many CPU licences you have in Veeam)

I went for a Brother HL-3150CDW for home, really happy with it, I guess I have had it for over a year now.

My advice is keep it simple and completely away from any single points of failure and don't be tempted to over engineer something to just to on the face of it save some costs.

Previous job a few years ago we had about 11-12 1800/1810 switches on site and they never missed a beat. The 1810's are a little bit easier when it came to doing vlans though, lol. Both 1800s and 1810s are web based management only so take backups if you like playing with settings specially with vlans, trunks and management settings.

I still have an 1810-8g which I bought over 10 years ago. One of the ports is PoE in port to supply power to the switch, although that feature gave up the ghost about 5years back so relying on the ext PSU now. It is in a cupboard acting as spare. There is another choice of a HP 1910, these have web based GUI as well as the CLI, you need a password to get into the CLI and do anything though (I still have that switch as well I think, I need a clear out, lol). As far as I am aware the Ubiquiti UNMS can only manage backups of the EdgeSwitches with no management (or that's what it only did a year back)

If you are not bothered about using the Ubiquiti controller to manage then I'd look at the EdgeSwitches, these are much better in my opinion, certainly if you are comfortable with other manufacturers switch GUI interfaces, although you do miss some of the visibility features of the controller. A while ago I had 3 EdgeSwitches (1 X ES24 and 2 X ES-16-XG) . I originally bought a US-8-150w for home but didn't really like it, I still have the Unifi APs but now on HP switches and it all works together.

SysAid would be another choice, used that more than a few years ago. Manage Engine is a good choice for bigger teams as well, used that at my last place. You can do things like auto job allocation and exclude members of staff. I think there is a free version

What about buying a NUC or 2nd hand small PC that can be mounted to the back of a monitor? Some NUCs are tall and take an extra drive, and if you buy 2nd hand jobbie no need to worry about warranty. I've run a NUC in a cupboard for over 2 years now 24/7. Admittedly the 2.5" drive died about 3 months ago but that drive was 4-5 years old and I guess using as a NVR drive did not help.

I like running the home network as a production, more life like :-). Can be frustrating when I have problems after being at work but I don't get many, well normally anyway, lol.

The way I done it with Windows 7 a few years back was have the printers assigned by GPP at the Computer OU level, for example OU=Room302. Then use a Group Policy assigned to that Computer OU with the Printer Shared in the User preferences, I'd then use loopback processing on that Group Policy with a setting of Merge, as long as the computers were in the correct OU when the users logged in they got the correct printer assigned. This worked flawlessly, It worked so well that we used it during enrolment time every year following whilst I was there instead of sharing printers from one of the PCs on a table and all the issues with that setup. Unfortunately I've not had exposure with Windows 10 as I no longer work in the area where I would be involved.

MikroTik have a few switches prob cheaper than Unifi. But you need to watch for throughput drops if you anything above basic layer 2 I have a 4port 10Gb at home, this one https://www.eurodk.com/en/products/crs/mikrotik-crs305-1g-4sin . But I now wish I'd bought the CRS309 as I have ran out of ports, lol. Doing video work at home I have a 10Gb network between my desktop and a SSD filled Synology NAS where I back the videos up to off my desktop. Transferring up to 35Gb of Video project normally when I am about to go to bed is just so quick.

There is limited/no resiliency options with Ubiquiti. My choice would be a switch stack so links can be aggregated between physical switches. That can not be done on any Ubiquiti switch that I am aware of. Even VRRP is missing on a switch level, spanning tree is another area that needs work if no stacking is available. I had 2 ES-16-XG switches at home with a ES-24 and ditched them in favour of a few Aruba 2930f's in a stack. IPv6 routing also was missing on the switch, another reason why I ditched them.
