I cannot believe they would rather talk to Ofcom as a complaint than send an engineer to further investigate, what are they playing at. Suggest you ring back and hopefully get someone else, get it confirmed in an email or Chat window, insist on talking to the Supervisor and threaten to take it to OfCom yourself but take it to OfCom anyway, seems like and a stalling tactic to me. I was with Cable & Wireless, then NTL then Virgin, when Virgin took over it immediately went down hill. I went to TalkTalk then back to VM for another try which quickly went south (made worse by engineer who witnessed problem with VM box and then lied). Now on BT with a Business package, had one outage with BT in 3 years and that was confirmed as a physical cable issue outside of property boundary. BT certainly are not perfect though from what I have experienced but overall better than VM in my experience. Many of our staff are on VM and they have been hit with so many outages in the few last months.

Phone them up threatening to cancel the policy and see what they do. They might just well back off to keep you at renewal, then at renewal still shop around and don't take your current insurers renewal fee without first speaking to them to get it reduced. 18 months back I had a lease car delivered 1 month early so had 2 cars. My current insurer only charged me £70 quid to have my current car a temp policy and create a new policy for the new car, no admin charge. Since changed insurers as the price kept on going up even though NCB was accruing and hadn't made a claim.

I've had Success with Ipolex SFPs on HP Switches for home off Amazon. They are a lot cheaper than the £150 HPE versions for an SFP+. To be honest you can spend hours like I did trying to bring up a switch because of a incompatible SFP at a previous employment just save your self the trouble and get a compatible or a manufacturer model.

At home I done this by a txt record on DNS for O365 domain but I still end up with some stuff going to Junk. Could be my setup, I have a internal PostFix server for devices that only have an IP address and port 25 options for email which forwards emails on to Office365 over an SSL connection. I have static IP addresses for home internet connection so did following.

For those of you using the community edition of Veeam. I see it is limited to 10 workloads, is that the max number of Objects it can concurrently backup or is it the max Objects (VMs, Physical servers, etc.) you can have selected for backup? There certainly is a lot more in the community edition than there used to be in the free version and the benefit of SureBackup I could prob do without at home to be honest.

Unfortunately not got any experience with Smoothwall but plenty of people on here use them. See if you can speak to Smoothwall support too.

Have you configured IP address helpers on the vlan on the layer 3 switch? And have corresponding DHCP scopes. To rule out and test that you could setup a switch port that is untagged on one of the SSID vlans and see if it gets IP address etc. Just try to break it down to little bits, check logs on the NPS server etc. I did have this working at home with Unifi and NPS few years back but it since broke and I haven't bothered fixing it. I may give it another go since I migrated to a new internal domain at home.

It depends on the setup but normally I'd have the AP management untagged and all the SSID vlans tagged. You do not need to tag the server vlan. You should only need add the AP not the cloud key as I believe with Unifi the AP is the device that talks to the Radius server. There is no resilience for Unifi cloud controller as such it only dishes out config to devices but can act as a captive portal

That would be fine but really want off site storage, even though it is a lab I use it like production, lol. I would look at cloud but I can only get 15Mbps upload speed on home connection and it would take a bit of time to upload, then think about the cost of download to restore which seems to cost more than the storage itself.

Yeah I am in 2 minds to do the same, it's not like I'm going to be throwing the disks around, and I have an unused USB external caddy lying around, lol.

I was a fan of the Lacie Rugged drives but 3 have failed me in the last 3 years so have completely lost faith in them. I use USB drives for backups as Veeam server is virtual and I have a Silex Network USB server which I connect the USB drive to then store at work. The backups are just of VMs and non-important files, other more important files are scheduled backups to a local NAS and cloud storage. I'm considering a Samsung T5 SSD as I use one for Video backups and been using the SamSung Pro drives for years with no failures. Any other suggestions?

Virtualisation has made homelabs much simpler and need not cost anything to get started. Back in the days I was doing a CCNA I had a 2m tall rack with a few desktop PCs Cisco switches and routers. Nowadays I can open Virtual Box or VMWare workstation and spin up a whole domain with a workstation and even connect it to a completely separate vlan on my home network if I want to do some isolated network labs or testing. I would look Azure AD though if you can (Microsoft 365 etc) or other cloud services.

That is new, I didn't think it had that before with the free version, thought it was ad-hoc backups, lol. I'll have to spin up a VM and install it at home and have a look. Maybe it was the functionality to encrypt the backups the reason why I done the Powershell scripts it was about 4-5 years ago, lol. I think you can start off with a trial and once it ends the functionality is limited? I have it installed as a VM at home. With a dedicated HDD just for backups and then these get copied to rotated portable HDDs that I store at work.

As @Steve21 says. We had a separate server in my last place, that had a FC direct connection to the SAN from the backup server ( we had 16 blades in the chassis). You can put Proxies which can have benefit but depends on your setup. I used Veeam as a free edition at home before and managed to schedule jobs using Veeam PowerShell and windows Task Scheduler in my home network, I can see if I still have the scripts if they may be use to you? It was even possible to encrypt the backups but if I remember rightly if you lost the encryption key you could NOT get the backup back. I'd love a Golf R32, I thought about one when lease was up last time but decent, unmolested versions are expensive. Never had a Golf only driven one once. If it counts I have a Leon Cupra 290 on lease. It is has a lot of the same underpinnings, same gearbox (7 spd DSG) etc. 18k miles and engine just loosening up nicely.

I think it is rare for a modern OS to get a BSOD, it is prob a hardware fault. But as others have said check you bios settings, what Make/Model is it? It will have a built in NIC (Network Interface Card), some early laptops only had a Modem port and Ethernet/Wifi was often via a PCMCIA card but that was years ago, my first laptop lol. Still remember those days with Windows 95/98, lol.

APC do a application called the Device IP Configuration Wizard, as long as the Client where running the app from is on the same vlan it should find it, I guess it works by searching on a layer 2 (mac address) basis. Not seen that problem. What switch are you using for your core/layer3 switch? have you just got the one NIC in the WDS server at any one time enabled?

There may be something of it in ADSIEDIT somewhere but making changes in their can have catastrophic effects so make sure AD is backed up and confident about what you are doing. Have the APC UPSs got network cards installed. Is it worth looking at PowerChute Network Shutdown to see if it is supported on Hyper-V?
