Indeed. The plugable brand seem to be the most reliable from my experience. We have about 250 old switches on site that only have a DB9 console connection so just have to carry a couple of cables around. But they stopped supplying the RJ45 to DB9 cables now and don't supply the USB cable either with the switches.

You can use a USB to the micro USB cable, I'm not sure what exact cable to be honest you will need the driver too. I still use a USB to DB9 Serial adapter (Plugable make) and a DB9 to RJ45 cable. They do not supply the DB9 console cables anymore I don't think.

I only ever use the console/ssh, much quicker. If you have a static IP in place you would need to remove before replacing with the new IP. Setup a ntp source too so it helps with logs etc.

I run a 3cx and unless the number is in the contacts list it goes straight to a voice mail with nothing that identifies me. The VOIP phones show any calls that have gone to voicemail. I then have option to block but I have not blocked any as see little point to be honest.

I doubt this will work for Scammers, they do not work by any code and simply exist to prey on vulnerable people or others that do not realise they are been target of a scam by scumbag lowlifes. They typically gain access to a users PC by lying about a refund and either gain access to the target users bank via that person logging in. Then make changes to falsify balances etc. Everyone should be wary of any callers claiming to be from Amazon, your ISP, BT etc. Media should do something useful like highlighting these scams as well as phishing scams, get the awareness out there.

I do wonder whenever I do an update on my Win 10 desktop what will break, if nothing does it is a bonus.

Same experience here. Although both BT and Virgin can be as bad as one another personally my experience with VM has been bad as a home user and a user of their educational ISP offering in our area. Hopefully FTTP is just around the corner.

Personally I'd create a seperate account for him and enable 2FA on that. Personally I don't think any admin accounts should be same as normal log in accounts anyway.

Hmm, Maybe it is limited to the Switches?? I must admit I've not tried on any Access points but the Wireless controllers and software maybe a contract/support only available update.

No normally updates on HP ProCurve and Aruba *switches are completely free unlike Cisco and a few others where you need a contract/support package most of the time. We are still running some HP 2650's at work and the last update on those was in 2016 but the switches are over 10 years old. https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/support/SupportLookUp.aspx You may find it a bit noisy but you could look at getting a Noctua fan kit if you can find one that is compatible and happy to open up the case, switch powered off of course I had a 2910al a few years back. Sounds good I may just use the DrayTek in the same fashion. I have a business package with 5 IPs and a /56 IPv6 range. I have 2 firewalls sitting behind the DrayTek which do the NAT etc in a HA pair cause I do like over complicating things, lol.

Think my renewal with BT is up in 8 months so will look to get FTTP. Currently getting 48/16 but I'm more interested in upload anyway. Those of you on FTTP what routers are you using? I use a DrayTek 2860 for my current vDSL, it has a 1GB WAN port I think so I'm considering just using that.

Windows 10 rarely BSOD, if it does it can pinpoint a RAM or hardware issue. Suggest you could remove one RAM stick if you have multiple and monitor for a week or however long you feel necessary to isolate the problem. I would even try the RAM in another slot if possible just to make sure not a slot issue.

I've used Bloxx and Sophos before. I had a demo of McAfee web filter 10 years back and it was horrible. Sophos was very good as a standalone web filter. Try to get a Demo of a few units if you can to compare.

Can you exclude the redirection for the Video editor app or it's path? We had to exclude iTunes at a previous employment because it was using up the users quota with backups of their phones etc., something we did not want also backed as part of our server backups.

We had an Asset system which when we deployed PC's we'd simply scan the QR code and tell it where the computer, Projector, Printer etc was going to be deployed to. As been a college we moved PCs from IT suites every year for enrolment and back again it made it easier just to use the asset tag as the computer name as we'd normally have to move all the PCs back to location in a few hours ready for the next day.
