Is anyone using hosted SIMS in a secondary school environment? If so how is it? Would you recommend it? Was it a big change for staff or does it look similar? If anyone could PM me a rough idea of cost that would be amazing. Cheers

Office 365 Issues - Keeps crashing
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Web portal an IE just keeps coming back with a pop up saying it has crashed and needs to restart. Seems to work fine in Chrome. Also investigating whether the impero add on has anything to do with it. -
Is anyone else having issues with office 365 today? Have staff reporting it keeps crashing in IE but working fine in google chrome. Crashing when trying to book rooms and even open emails. Thanks

Do any of your schools sell advertising space on newsletters, results wallets or have PE kit Sponsorship from local businesses? If so are you able to let me know how much you ask for from the businesses? Something like full page advert price, half page price, or PE kit sponsorship deal. How long you run them for etc. Cheers

I've been asked by our marketing guy if there is a government website or something that exists that would show all schools and the number of pupils in each year group. Basically wants to know how many is in each year group in our local primaries without having to bother their staff to do the work. Does anyone know of a way to find this information? .gov website school census or something. I can only find a schools total number. Thanks

Is there a way using GAFE/G-Suite that you can have it blocked for students unless they log into their google account? Then it's on a restricted mode? If so anyone know how this would be set up?
-
Currently, we block all youtube access for students but there are more and more calls for them to have access to it especially our music department. I was wondering what you guys do with regards to youtube? Do you allow free reign, block it all, or have a system in place where staff can approve what students can access. What is the best way of approving videos for students to access. We do have G-Suite accounts for students but they aren't really used in school yet. Thanks

Managed Print and Purchasing Frameworks

Forgive my ignorance but does it cost to go through a framework? How do you decide which one to use? How long does the process normally take via a framework? Cheers -
Managed Print and Purchasing Frameworks
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Learning Network Manager
They were my worries and it seems to be cutting out the original supplier we started the enquiry with. I am all for trying to get the best price but doesn't seem professional. Problem is I also don't really understand frameworks well enough. -
We have approached a supplier about managed print and had a meeting with a printer manufacturer via the original supplier. They are suggesting we go down the route of using a purchasing framework. We have never done this before and wondered how many of you have used them for this purpose? It is also being suggested we approach the framework on our own as this would be 'better'. Has anyone experienced this before? Seems a bit cloak and dagger just to get some quotes. Cheers

I am looking at getting a wireless home alarm system and heving been looking at the different options with the Yale kits, Samsung smartthings etc Just wondering if anyone can recommend any systems? Needs to work like a security system, door sensors, Movement sensors and a camera but then maybe link into home automation. Really want to be able to arm and disarm it from my phone and get alerts if it goes off when we aren't home. Cheers

Is it possible to see who deleted a folder? We have impero but the folder is on a shared drive on a QNAP NAS so not sure it catches deleted file details.

Trello is a life saver for me. We use manageengine helpdesk for all the main jobs from staff. Then i use a trello board for my own jobs / reminders and have individual boards for large projects.

I'm in exactly the same position as the original poster. For those who did jump to GAFE. Did you move shared drives to googles cloud storage? If so how? How did you get on with the duplicates of MS files? Do you still have windows desktops with MS Access etc or gone completely chrome? Cheers

Who do people use for their managed print solutions? Thanks

Broadband was moved last year to schoolsbroadband from the LEA to save about £2k a year. PC renewal has already slipped to 5 year cycles and is showing real signs of wear and tear so looking at what else we can do. Thanks for the feedback so far really useful.

Hi I am trying to find ways we can cut costs due to budget constraints. I have a couple of areas in mind and wondered if any of you have done similar and could share advice over whether it made a big difference and whether it's worth it. Asset management: Do you use a paid system or free / speadsheet system for whole school asset management, not just IT assets. Printing: Do you use a managed print solution? Did it save you money? Do you just have standalone printers replace when broken? How much roughly do you spend per year on a managed print solution? VLE: Do you use a paid system? Use something free like google classroom / microsoft classroom? I have been trying to keep up with the changes coming to EES licensing. We are fixed for three years but i am worried about what will happen to the costs after that. I can see they are removing the discounts so costs will increase but by how much? Or if you have any other ways you have been able to save money and want to share? Thanks

We have a tech team that we are wantign to expand. Currently they just support assemblies. I vaguly remember seeing something about digital leaders schemes in secondary schools. Do many of you do this? Which scheme as when i google it seem to get a number of different schemes. I also seem to think there was one that worked towards an award for the students or school? Is this right or have i imagined it? Thanks

Thanks, i'm off at the moment but will check it out when i'm in next week. Cheers

We run an RM CC4 network but when users use Google chrome it is getting really slow. They click a link and it takes an age to load the website. It does it for staff and students. Internet speed is fine, internet explorer for the same user is fine. Anyone had any experience of this? Or know how to troubleshoot it? Cheers
