Ok... I have created a brand new profile in Quantum, I have allowed every single category (apart from the 5 behaviourally blocked categories: Adult, intimate Apparel, intolerance & hate, proxies, and Proxy URL Rewriting). I have created a new bypass list and have added the following sites, the ones I knew about plus the ones that Arthur pointed out: login.live.com login.windows.net account.live.com clientconfig.passport.net windowsphone.com .wns.windows.com .microsoft.com .s-microsoft.com http://www.msftncsi.com http://www.msftconnecttest.com .msftconnecttest.com storeedgefd.dsx.mp.microsoft.com store-images.s-microsoft.com account.xbox.com assets.onestore.ms login.live.com storeedgefd.dsx.mp.microsoft.com universalstore.streaming.mediaservices.windows.net Still unable to download and install from the Microsoft store (but using the "NoTLS" still works). I have tried using the Environment Variable (the HTTP_Proxy and HTTPS_Proxy) as well as tried the "Netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie" command (just in case it was still the issue of the Microsoft Store not liking proxies). Still nothing... -Ken

Thanks... We also use a WPAD file for the AD proxy (but we have also tested it manually set). Sorry to ask, but would you be able to let me know what sites you have in your "bypass" and "allowed" lists please (that relate to Microsoft and the like)? As I'm getting no where... What I may do is set up a totally blank profile in Surfprotect and see if that allows me straight to it as well... Thanks -Ken

Good day, I was wondering if anyone/everyone here uses the SurfProtect Quantum filtering system with Windows 10... How do you access the Microsoft Store? Please do not suggest using the "NoTLS" proxy, enabling the "MicrosoftStore" tickbox, or placing the following sites: login.live.com login.windows.net account.live.com clientconfig.passport.net windowsphone.com .wns.windows.com .microsoft.com .s-microsoft.com http://www.msftncsi.com http://www.msftconnecttest.com .msftconnecttest.com In the "TLS Bypass" and or the "Allow URLs" portion. As we have done all of that already. If you can successfully access the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 using either the "AD" or "Proxy" proxy, please let us know how you have done it. Thanks -Ken

[windows software] Which re-sellers do you use for MS Licensing?
Kitkatninja replied to Trapper's topic in Licensing Questions
We have gone with AMC for the last few MS licensing quotes as they have beat everyone else on price... However we have used other suppliers in the past, such has Halcyon, Moon Computer, ACS, etc - for us it all depends on who gives the best price at the time... -

It could also be a BIOS version issue... We had an issue a while ago where Windows wouldn't activate, we updated the BIOS and presto - activated...

We use RDS over HTTPS on Server 2016 - it is more secure that previous versions. Just remember to close all un-necessary ports and get a SSL cert and purchase the required licenses.

Comptia are now issuing badges via Acclaim - you can use these badges on various social & professional networking sites like Linkedin, they only just started this month. I did my A+ in 2004, Network+ in 2004, Server+ in 2009 and Security+ in 2007 and I received badges for all of them Those that did the CE version, will get slightly different badges (it states CE on them)...

Sometimes, however alot of the certifications (and their companies) are from the US... So they have to meet either the DoD requirements or they have achieved (and want to continue) the ISO/ANSI accredited continuing education standard. Added to this, there are big jumps between different versions of technologies, eg I gained my MCSE/MCSA in Windows 2000, 2003 and Exchange 2000... My MCSA in Windows Server 2008 & 2012, etc... There are big differences between server 2000 and 2016 as well as Exchange 2000 and 2016... That's not to say that I approve of certifications & qualifications expiring/retiring like with the new MCSEs, the Cisco certs, Apple certs, some of the Comptia certs, etc... But they should be recognized for what they are plus the underlining knowledge that they provide...
-
Some of them have been useful, some of them not - it depends on your job role/what you do, imo otherwise you get the certification/qualification and if you don't use the skills & knowledge you get very rusty and out of date...
-
Working in IT now for years, I'm kinda certificated-out... If I was going to get anything I'll get the MCSA Office 365 cert at somepoint... I'm actually more interested now in finishing my Masters...

Awesome mate, well done on the pass

I would also recommend gaining the CITP from the BCS... However if you do not already work at SFIA level 5 for at least X amount of years, then I would recommend looking at either the RIITech award from the BCS or the ICTTech from the ECUK via the IET. Both of them are for practitioners who work at least at level 3 of the SFIA. You also have ITIL, which has been mentioned above, the downside is that if you want to do anything higher than foundation, it is expensive... There is the educational version, FITS - but it's not an online course. There's Project management certs like Prince2, Comptia Project+, etc... That can be self-studied and you can sit the exams at a testing centre. You also have the option for a Post Graduate Cert in Technology Management with the OU, which is a 1/3 of a MSc. However alot of colleges are offering a level 2 award in Team Leading for free... I guess the question is, as there is a wide variety of courses out there, what do you want to do and what budget is available to you for this???

Once I've found about 1/3 glass of liquid (I assumed it was water) in a laptop (it literally poured out of the laptop when I removed the battery). Staff member said it just stopped working...

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone is with Exa Networks and with Agora and is having or has had problems with it? As in, the sync isn't working... I've been told that the error was this: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KB-476182 - Agora Sync failure Capita cloud client or SSM - Error occurred while calling WCF service KB-476182-B7H6S3 Description School may experience sync failure in Agora, if they are using Capita Cloud Client, or SSM and this appears to be running ok but sync is still failing, check the Service logs for CCC Or SSM. If the logs contain error message ' Error while calling WCF service' This is caused by their Broadband provider eg: LA who are running SSL inspection, and blocks this service. WorkAround Check the Service logs for CCC or SSM. If the logs contain error message ' Error while calling WCF service' This is caused by their Broadband provider eg: LA who are running SSL inspection, and blocks this service. . Solution To resolve:- Contact the broadband supplier and request they exclude their school server IP that is running Capita Cloud client/SSM from SSL inspection -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have followed the instructions that we have been given but it still doesn't work... I'm not blaming anyone, as both Exa and Agora are still investiagating this, but if someone else has had issues and managed to resolved them, I would like to hear back to get this issue sorted sooner rather than later. Kind Regards -Ken

Exchange 2016 on Server 2016 install problems
Kitkatninja replied to Kitkatninja's topic in Enterprise Software
Thanks, I've already found the solution and have pasted my answer on TechNet here Basically it was the FederatedEmail account that was corrupted (I assume), I had to delete and recreate it before the installation would go any further. Don't know why they have to hide the causes and give vague descriptions. Anyway, thanks for your help -Ken- 4 replies

Kitkatninja replied to Kitkatninja's topic in Enterprise Software
Yes, downloaded the latest version of Exchange yesterday (just in case) and fully updated Server 2016 yesterday (the only update this morning was a defender definition which was installed) as well.- 4 replies

Hi All, Was wondering if anyone can help/point me in the right direction... I'm currently having issues with the installation of Exchange 2016 on Server 2016 (with the Desktop experience). We currently have an Exchange 2010 infrastructure in place. (Update) I have done the following commands: setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms setup.exe /PrepareDomain /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms Then setup.exe /Mode:Install /Roles:Mailbox /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms However it fails with the following error: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); if ( ($server -eq $null) -and ($RoleIsDatacenter -ne $true) ) { Update-RmsSharedIdentity -ServerName $RoleNetBIOSName } " was run: "Microsoft.Exchange.Data.DataValidationException: You can't leave the EmailAddresses parameter value empty. at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.ADDataSession.Save(ADObject instanceToSave, IEnumerable`1 properties, Boolean bypassValidation) at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.Recipient.ADRecipientObjectSession.Save(ADRecipient instanceToSave, String callerFilePath, Int32 callerFileLine, String memberName) at Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Deployment.UpdateRmsSharedIdentity.Link() at Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Deployment.UpdateRmsSharedIdentity.InternalProcessRecord() at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.b__b() at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.InvokeRetryableFunc(String funcName, Action func, Boolean terminatePipelineIfFailed)". --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've tried restarting and restalling (both via the cmd and the GUI), but it keeps on failing. I've also done a search in AD for any accounts (that look like Exchange accounts) and have typed in e-mail addresses where it was blank: FederatedEmail.... SystemMailbox... (4 of them) But these were shots in the dark as the error doesn't say what accounts... Done searches on TechNet as well as via Bing & Google, no avail... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Thanks -Ken

While we use a great range of suppliers, in general AMC normally come in the cheapest, they are great on price (I believe that they can do that for £139 - sorry not at work, on A/L so don't want to go thru our old orders), our account manager is Danny... Try him

[windows software] Microsoft Licensing for MATS
Kitkatninja replied to nathan's topic in Licensing Questions
We license the whole MAT under one license - saves on the ball ache of remembering when everyone's licensing expires (got e-mail confirmation from MS that we're allowed to do this) -
59, tried a second attempt but lost interest, haha
