But it does give you a little more breathing room, especially if your hardware doesn't support, eg Windows 11, especially if you go for the Cyber Security Essentials (or Plus) accreditation. Windows 10 2021 LTSC Mainstream support end date is: Jan 2027 vs Windows 10 Education/Enterprise: Oct 2025.

Azure and AWS is not the only cloud service provider out there. Oracle in order to get people qualified (ok for the fundamentals of their system) and (what I can see) hopefully get more people to use their "as a service", they are offering their fundamental training and exam for free. Not sure if this is a time limited offering, but I can say that the course was interesting, even if it is just to compare what is out there and to make a more informed decision when deciding on cloud services You can access the training and exam here.

I had a Daewoo Espero (basically it had all the mod-cons but a generation or two behind the current tech at the time, it was a refurbished Vauxhall), "one of the main reasons the Espero became so rare was because of an ABS control module which was not only difficult to replace but also very expensive when it was faulty. This led to many MOT failures so many owners got rid of their Esperos. Plus, there were many electrical problems (central locking, wiper, radio, light faults)" [1]. And as of 2019, only 102 of those were left [2]. The second obscure car I've owned (for the UK), was the Dodge Calibre. The best part of the vehicle was the engine, it was a VW engine. The good thing about this vehicle was that it was one of the first Cross over vehicles, so it was slightly more upright seating position, however the viewability was not so great (compared to other cars at the time). Across the UK/Europe only 49,029 were sold over the 9 years that this car was manufactured, and only 1 car was sold in 2013 and 1 car sold in 2014 - the last two years. As of 2022, there are only 1789 of them left on the road [3].

Kitkatninja replied to Kitkatninja's topic in Comments and Suggestions
Was wondering if anything was decided about offering the edugeek pins to purchase for those of us that haven't been let out for the weekday only BETT show? -
Just tested it, unfortunately doesn't work (at least in our environment) But thanks for the suggestion.

Checked out delprof - from the comments it has issues with Windows 11. I'm now trying out the following, just deployed the GPO: Created DeleteProfiles.ps1 (powershell script that includes the following): $AccountsToKeep = @('administrator','Public','default','DOMAIN\administrator') Get-CimInstance -Class Win32_UserProfile | Where-Object { $_.LocalPath.split('\')[-1] -notin $AccountsToKeep } | Remove-CimInstance This is in the following the newly created GPO: "STUDENT Machine - WARNING Delete all profiles from PC", in computer -> startup script. Other settings: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Group Policy section. Enable the “Configure Logon Script Delay” policy and specify a delay in minutes before starting the logon scripts (sufficient to complete the initialization and load all necessary services). I put 2 minutes here. and Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Group Policy “Specify startup policy processing wait time” option - set to 1 minute Will update this thread on the outcome. From testing, it seems to work - deletes the profiles and reg keys, no errors so far. Tested it with 2 student logins, 4 standard staff member logins, and 4 admin accounts (to see if the same thing happens). All those profiles get deleted. I am having issues with one profile not deleting, will have to investigate that.

Hi All, We've started to roll out Windows 11 and we've noticed an issue with our students accounts. We add them to the domain guests group in AD so that the profile is deleted when the machine reboots (in order to reduce used space on the SSDs). However we have noticed that apps like the Snipping tool, paint, calc, etc do not work on student accounts because they are a member of the domain guests (we have tested it without that group membership and the apps work). Mainly because from Windows 11 applications like these are now "app" rather than applications (the install place is different as well, instead of System32 it's now in the WindowsApp folder). Anyway, has anyone else come across this? What did you do to resolve this? We do have options, eg install 3rd party tools or take the students out of the domain guests but neither one's an option we want to go down at the moment.

Personally, I would say the Nokia range... Either the Nokia G60 or the Nokia XR20 - both under £300. I currently have the Samsung A71, but I've already moved my family over to Nokia's due to the spec, including battery life.

Now a days, try direct with Pearson Vue...

When you say gaming PC, what games are you actually talking about? For example minecraft's requirements are alot lower than God of War. So your gaming PC may just be a standard home/office PC that just happens to play games (especially if the budget is £500).

Ransomware attack on a major IT provider of the NHS
Kitkatninja replied to elsiegee40's topic in IT News
It's a constant battle, malware/ransomware keeps on evolving so code that may be able to stop them today, may not be able to stop them tomorrow. For example Android 13 was just released, and Malware developers have already bypassed Android 13's new security feature. But I like the way you think -
Is there anything official stated anywhere that says that? Students have email access, they use the same system as staff for emails, both staff and students have access to some of the same drives/resources, etc...

We're preparing for the renewal, like @free780 already stated, there are a number of changes in the new version... Things that we're getting clarification on is whether or not with interactive screens (with built in OSs) are ok if the creator of the OS doesn't support it. Eg alot of interactive boards are based on Android 9 which Google has stopped supporting it, however if the interactive board still provides updates, is that ok? If it is, how much of the actual OS does the interactive board have to support, eg just the apps? the whole OS? etc... MFA for cloud based services, what does everyone do with students? Secondary/Primary? Also questions about if the "Skip multi-factor authentication for requests from following range of IP address subnets" was enable would that be satisfactory or not. What about BYOD that connects to the guest wifi (that doesn't touch the internal network), is that in scope or out of scope? Plus alot more questions... BTW, you do have to provide lists of what you have. And it covers both operating system and firmware versions...

Depends, what do you want to study? Are you just looking for the training or the training and a qualification at the end? What level are you looking for?
-
Yes you can, the only question is will your employer allow you to tap into their apprenticeship levy for the funding of it and give you the time to do it during work hours (it works out approx 1 day a week)? You can do level 3, level 4 or the degree apprenticeships. See here for an example of a IT Degree Apprenticeship (from the OU, however they aren't the only degree apprenticeship provider). Here's what the level 3 ICT Apprenticeship program is like.
-
Take a look at the various IT apprenticeship programs available via the Apprenticeship Levy (you don't have to be paid an apprentice wage)... They start at level 3 and go up to degree (a full BSc), and contain a variety of different training (dependant on training provider); including service management, various comptia, Cisco, and MS training/exams, etc...

The free foundation course covers: The IT Experience Management Framework This overview explains what IT Experience Management (ITXM™) is, introduces the ITXM™ Framework and its key elements, sets expectations on how long the introduction of experience management takes, and offers guidance on increasing your organization’s experience-management maturity using the ITXM™ Maturity Model. ITXM™ brings experience management principles into IT operations. To allow IT teams to focus on the outcomes of the work they do and to provide data-driven insights to fuel the Continual Improvement – which was called Continual Service Improvement (CSI) in ITIL v3/2011 – needed to improve these outcomes. Personally I believe that this can be useful especially if you practice ITIL/FITS, or if you don't and want to start using a framework. -Ken
