Hi All, Was wondering if anyone has come across this error: 0x80244010 We get this error when we try to deploy Windows updates (software updates) via a task sequence in SCCM 2012r2 (see attached) when building a new machine. However on a live machine (one that isn't being built) it works fine via Software Center. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated -Ken

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone here has come across (and knows) where I can find the SCCM 2012 r2 management packs for SCOM 2012 r2? My google-fu is letting me down as for about 10 pages of searches, I can only come up with the management packs for SCCM 2012 (not the r2 version). Added to that I can't see whether or not 2012 is compatible with 2012r2 (which I doubt as between OS versions there are issues). I have already checked the management packs for the catalog (from within SCOM), but again that only brings up MP for SCCM 2012. Thanks -Ken

Hi Guy's, I'm having no luck with my MS licence reseller last year or this year (as I purchased our renewals from different suppliers). How do you set this up so that staff and students can access/download Office for free? Does anyone know where the links/guides/info are? I've done dozen of searches and they all come back with "news" articles saying students can access it here, staff can access it there. But no where does it say how to sign up/register/implement. As you can tell, this is starting to get on my nerves... Any assistance that you guys can provide (even if it's just pointing me in the right direction) would be greatly appreciated -Ken

At one of the primary school's we support, we just installed Vodigi, which is free. At our place we use DSign, a lot more features and looks very nice, however it's a paid for solution.

My whole team uses Onenote, it's a great app. We use it on the iPhone, ipad, PC and laptop with little problems

Don't know much about the OSCP, but it looks like if you want to enrol for the OSCP certification exam, you must first complete the Penetration Testing with Kali Linux course. Not sure on prices or how recognised/valued these certs are in the UK... What does your manager/co-workers say?

It's a pity that you don't have anyone to line manage as it looks like there's funding in your area for the NVQ 3 in Management and NVQ 2 in Team Leading. Apart from that, another +1 for the FITS range of courses and what about the Prince2 range of certs for project management? Or if they can spring for it, look at the M258 IT Project and Service Management from the OU Then afterward, you can take a look at the Qualifications for School Business Managers...

First one, second one. Or the likes of QA and Firebrand do courses. While they are very good, they do have a price to match it However if you want free, Microsoft provide basic/introduction free courses for 2010 and 2013

See here, a few people at another forum has used them in the past (I have not, so recommendation is 2nd hand) The EXIN track based on ISO/IEC 27002. Foundation, Advanced and Expert . The foundation cert can be self-studied, the high level ones are class based. ISEB Information Security Management Principles. This can be self-studied or class based. Both the SSCP and the CISSP are well regarded, however poss at this stage (or in 12 months time), you'd be looking more at the SSCP (as for the SSCP you will need at least 1 years full time experience of working in one or more of the seven domains of the SSCP CBK®. The only "negative" thing (if you can call it that) that I can find is that they do not award credit for prior experiential learning, challenge examinations or achievement tests. So it's their full program... What's Prof. Heppell putting together? I've done a quick search and can't really find anything, relating to developing qualification that it...

Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess the real test would be in 3-4 years when graduates start to appear and if/when they go thru the UK NARIC process to see if it really compares to a UK qualification.

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has thought about getting a degree via the University of the People (UoPeople)? I've been watching them since their inception and this year they got accredited by DETC (which is more of an American thing). It doesn't seem to be a diploma or degree mill, especially since the likes of Microsoft, HP, etc have partnered up with them. But to be honest, that says more about the value of what they are delivering, rather than if their qualification (the bit of paper in the end) is recognised. It's not a 100% free program as there is an application fee and end of module exam fees. But comparing it to degree programs in the UK, it looks like it's about the same cost as one module/course (which is a considerable saving). What are your thought on this? -Ken

Hi All, We are looking for a Temp IT/Senior IT level Technician for a couple of months* work for our Academy Trust (the Hatton Academies Trust) in Wellingborough. The Academy Trust has a lot of IT/AV kit and a strong multi-skilled mixed team of 2 males and 1 females. The team is made up of the IT Manager, Senior IT Technician, the IT Technician and this post. There are 3 "sites" (Academies) within the Trust and we also support external schools as well. Depending on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate, the salary range is £8.00 to £10.50 per hour. As this is an temporary position (there are views to turn it into a permanent one), we are currently using agencies such as Adecco (Wellingborough), Office Angels (Northampton), Reed (Northampton) and Manpower (Northampton). Hi Guy's, Been having a weird issue with Exchange recently where we would not receive e-mails from certain senders. I've used https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com and the only issue that pops up (that I can see) is this: I've been trying to track down where and how to sort this out without much luck. Depends on the job role itself. I used to work for a College of Further and Higher Education (as it was also a University campus) and the main differences for me when compared to IT in secondary education is the working pattern (you could end up working weekends and evenings). While there are holidays, there are still a lot of people working on/off site so work, especially on servers/network/phones/etc, have to be more carefully planned. The team is a lot bigger, so the amount that you'd learn would be a lot. In a few places, you may be working across the whole university, in other places you may only be allocated to a certain "school" or campus.
