VLE-type program (Sam Learning) IE based - suggestions?
steve replied to gwendes's topic in Educational Software
A couple of alternatives you could look at: Actis - Offer Maths and English MyMaths.co.uk Learn Premium Skoool Schoolzone has reviews of most of these. -
Can't find the exact error on support net, but similar errors recommend: Re-install sims on workstation (i just delete the sims folder and re-run setup) Reboot workstation and or server Re-create user via system manager Otherwise it looks like something more specific to your data.

I initially set up my servers with 2 nics in each a couple of years ago, and they caused me no end of trouble. You need them for proxy / exchange / webserver / vpn / router. MS call it multihoming, caused me a fair few dns problems. If the adapters are the same see if you can team them, you can increase throughput / load balance and prvide a bit of redundancy.

Just noticed that today there are now 1500 members. So thats 500 since July. With BETT just round the corner I reckon there will be another 500 by the end of Feb. Any other predictions for when the 2000th member is signed up?

Nothing geeky at all, just slippers, a book and a toblerone.

We just had this same problem with Sophos puremessage. Did you manage to get anything from sophos? -

Global Leap don't sell VC kit. They just provide access to VC resources. We've worked with them a few times and they're great. If you do go down the VC route, try and avoid PC based systems. From my experiences they just trouble.

Wow I've actually won something! :-)

There is a cover management module to be released as part of SIMS .net sometime next year - but no release date has been given yet. It will be outside of the timetabling modules and full intergrated into .net From the demo's I've seen it look very good.

Space Shuttle is on its way to the International Space Stati
steve replied to tickmike's topic in General Chat
I saw on the new they had to get the shuttle back before the new year, as they weren't sure the computer clocks could handle the date change! -
The latest software was pulled down automatically by our server over the weekend. Had an email today with some details of this years tests. 30 April – 25 May 2007 are the dates. Might just get chance to get this running by xmas

@Toby: thanks for the doc, had what I needed. I've seen a few people mention setting the relevant sims permissions via group policies instead of using the bat file. So I've had a quick go at it, will test it more this week. But if anyone can see any issues I'd be glad of any comments. (I know its not linked to anything - yet) simsperm.htm

A bit of advertising for the edugeek stand via the email update BETT 2007 I got today: http://www.bettshow.com/bett/show_link5.asp#5

The Leeds one is a bit strange. Education Leeds ... is a unique partnership between Leeds City Council and Capita. So the schools are managed by Capita, with RM supporting the IT. Luckly I don't work in Leeds

I'm on my second DrayTek, upgraded for wireless, and they are rock solid. Go for months on end without reboots. Only problem is the price.

1. Netmedia - MyDesktop / MyClasses / MyMail 2. RBC Tender 3. About £2500 pa 4. Admin side managed by IT support, one of the ICT teachers trains other staff - try to give all teacher ownership. 5. Yes, its pretty straight forward 6. Not very well. Its pretty much stand alone. 7. It would have to be something amazing to get us to move everything. 8. The product doesn't sem to be moving on. Development appears to be stagnent. What I would say is wait until Jan before making any choice on a VLE. Becta are publishing a purchasing framework for Learning Platforms.

The December update hasn't be published yet, the latest one is November version 2. I had a few similar errors a while back with SIMSAMPARKSetup.EXE On our system I found that we didn't have the latest version of the file solus was expecting to update, so it kept generating errors. In the end had to get capita to email me the correct version of the file to add to our setups folder.

Ours is split into several sections: 1.Student achievement and outcomes 2.Resources and infrastructure - development and replacement 3.Technical Support 4.Curriculum Development 5.Inclusion 6.Continuing Professional Development 7.Communications - home, school, community 8.Administration (MIS) 9.Software Development 10.Sustainability I work mostly on sections 2,3,10. The rest is done via an ICT steering group. The plan doesn't contain any policies as such, its a document of our aims over the next 3 years and the associated costings. The costs are generated mainly by our TCO spreadsheet - so a good audit of hardware is essential. This helps complete most of 2 and 10. I found using gantt charts helped me visualise the long term picture and spread the workout accross the plan.
