We are having an issue accessing a website through our smoothwall box (We can get access from same client when bypassing the smoothwall box) Website http://shuspace.shu.ac.uk We can get onto the website but when our student teachers try and login via the button, it just hangs. I've put in an exception for shuspace.shu.ac.uk and nothing shows as blocked on the real time logs. On the website it advises to turn off TLS 1.0, which I have. Can some kind sole(s) try it via their smoothie and let me know if they can get to the login page?

I can highly recommend Shure earphones. I've got the SE210s. A bit expensive, but worth it IMHO. They have a sponge earbud that moulds to your ear. I've used them on long haul flights to great effect. Just be careful, they are that good you might not here traffic coming.

It's been announced that Liverpool (LDL) have signed with BT to provide the ICT services for their BSF programme. BT is the current supplier for an existing IT project in Liverpool schools. Link Contract value - £11 million Wiki updated.

Then the logic must be to pay the techies to help select those ICT systems! Did you just see that flock of winged swine over head? :flypig: :flypig:

Welcome to edugeek. Have you spoken to your contract IT tech about what they feel may need to be done to the system? With inside knowledge they maybe able to make some good recommendations. With the number of clients you are proposing a new server or perhaps 2 virtualised would definitely help. Sticking with RM if you have limited support maybe your best bet. Ensure your switches are all of a decent spec too (10/100/1000). HP are always highly recommended by edugeek users. Look at PoE if replacing as these will help with the wireless. I would advise you to get a full wireless survey done on how many APs and where they need to be located. Look for a fully managed solution, I'm sure many people will be shouting ruckus at their screens now. Ruckus are a another supplier highly recommended by edugeeks. You said you'd like the wireless to be the focus, but I'd do it the other way around. It will be easier to add additional APs as your number of clients grow than to replace / upgrade your servers.

We only buy HP for our lasers - over 20 small mono (HP1200/1300) and 30+ colour lasers (HP3800/CP3505) We've had very few problems over the last 3/4 years with these since ditching Epson. The main reason for our change was print quotas - all print quota software works with HP. The rest can be a bit hit and miss I've found. HPs colour laser support was based in the UK the last time I called (not sure if they have changed this). I've always found their support good for the colour lasers on the small number of occasions I have had to use it. The down side is the cost of the toners and how quickly they ditch a type of toner. We like to keep the number of different types of toners we stock to a minimum. HP usually change printer models every 12-18 months. A model of toners sometimes fits 2 models of printer. Since the fall of the pound against Euro / dollar, HP toners have become 10-20% more expensive. Not sure if this is true of other makes, its now cheaper to buy a new printer.

Picked up this from a blog I read: Microsoft have just started a 20 part series webcast on using their virtualisation technologies. Webcast link If that's not enough, they are also giving away a free ebook (pdf format) on virtualisation. Free ebook

I created our schools website 3 years ago with joomla 1.0 I'm now looking to rebuild it from scratch with joomla 1.5 While I know I could use the excellent edugeek template, I'd like to try and build the site from scratch - I've not got much else to do this xmas. So far I've tried the following extensions: AllVideos by JoomlaWorks ChronoForms Plugin Googlemaps Attachments for content articles Extra Vote Which extensions do you use and would recommend for our new site? (These must be free for non-commercial sites) I'm looking for a decent gallery, a calendar solution and anything else that you can recommend.

Went to the Monaco gp this year, the tickets were part of the package. Went with Thomas Cook Sport. But like DrPerceptron said, best place is the circuits website if you plan arranging your own travel.

Over the last 3 years we have had about 75 broken PSUs for laptops (out of 110). We bill the departments for them. Just issued half the staff with new laptops and warned them about looking after them.
