  1. The policy in our school is laptops must be handed in when going on maternity or if off long term. We are expected to issue cover staff wih laptops, so these have to come from somewhere. On the odd occasion staff "forget" to hand it in, so we just inform the head of department their cover staff won't get a laptop until teacher x hands it in. All we do different is have a few spare hard drives preconfigured that we swap for cover staff to prevent them screwing up the teachers settings.
  2. The autumn release is 7.124 More here: SIMS Version Information - Capita Children's Services
  3. This sound similar to our setup. The laptops will need to be on the same subnet as the unfiltered connection (ADSL?) and they will need configuring with the default gateway of the router connected to this connection. Everything shold the route out over that instead of the proxied system.
  4. It sounds like you're using pre-existing Virtual PC servers on Hyper-V. What I believe is happening is the NIC within these VMs isn't functioning when connected to a Hyper-V system. To rectify this you need to un-install the Virtual PC add-ons from the VM (you can do this under Hyper-V). Make a note of the network config first. After a reboot of the VM, install the Hyper-V add-ons. This will setup the relevant NIC drivers. You should then be able to configure the network settings as required.
  5. Wouldn't want one, they'd only ring me on it :-)
  6. The problem we have is our IT suites aren't in a nice central area - they are scattered over the entire campus, which is over 100 classrooms in 10 different buildings, on an 8 acre site. No DECT phone will cover the 200m between our office (where we have 5 phones) and the furthest board. Mobiles are our only option.
  7. A small issue I have with Promethean support is that the support line number is an 0844 code Now this might not be an issue from our land lines but there are no phones in our IT suites and whenever I call, the support agent insists I be at the board (understandably) when trying to troubleshoot. So I have to call from a mobile (we don't have school ones, so I have to use my own) this is where the 0844 number hurts - if it was a standard number I'd be able to use my inclusive minutes and not get ripped off by my mobile provider. And no, I don't want to give you my personal number to call me back on.
  8. 1. Nothing, for the last 10+ years I've told people not to buy me anything. I have enough stuff, give the money to charity on my behalf instead. 2. My first BMX - A redline, all chrome. 3. A Noddy colouring book from my grandparents- I was 15! I think it was intended for my cousin who has the same first name and was about 5 at the time.
  9. If you have HP printers, how about: HP Web Jetadmin software

  12. Try deleting the drive mappings before you map them: USE R: /DEL /PERSISTENT (use the /PERSISTENT if needed) USE P: /DEL
  13. I would setup the system first (without hyper-v) using 1 of the NICs (disable the other). Configure this with a static IP. Once you have the DNS / DHCP setup on this NIC, enable the other. Install hyper-v and use the second NIC for this. Its never a bad idea to disable IP6 if its not being used.
  14. Nice, this may solve an upcoming problem. Found them for £47.99 on ebuyer Belkin Network 5-Port USB2.0 Hub - Ebuyer
  15. A local secondary is advertising in the local press, the ad isn't on the council site or their website, so I've put the details below: St Wilfrids Catholic High School Please note I have no affiliation with the school, just posting this for the job seekers out there. BSF is rumoured to be on the horizon, job evaluation is under way for implementation next year.

  16. A note of caution, there's a difference between a dress code and a uniform. We had a bit of a to-do over the attempted imposition of a uniform - same colour shirt, specific tie and black trousers. This to us was a uniform and as a result the school were told if they wanted a uniform for us then they can pay for it. Uniforms can be discriminatory too (we objected to being singled out while all other support staff had only a smart dress code) We dropped back to trousers shirt and tie as our smart dress code.
  17. Best thing I've seen is an Outlook to Google Calendar sync: Getting started with Google Calendar Sync - Google Calendar Help You could then put a google calendar on your site.
  18. I've passed the v3 foundation too. Its all about the vocabulary, endless reams of terminology.
  19. The estimated education budget total for 2009 is £70bn So £2bn of that isn't huge but will be felt by us all. Don't know about everyone else but this year due to the poor exchange rate, I've found most things more expensive for my projects. Don't know where I could save 10%!
  20. We based: Samsung LFD Monitors
  21. We use the WLC with the Cisco radius software. Works pretty well. Should be similar on a windows radius box. As you can set up multiple SSIDs on the Cisco kit, try creating one using radius as a test, can't hurt :-)
  22. You might find an answer on here: Samsung Magicinfo-I MagicInfo Pro MagicNet Pro MagicNet X Digital Signage
  23. One thing to be aware of is Wakefield are still under going it Job Evaluation scheme so this pay could change. They should have mentioned this in the ad.
  24. @Abcos - Put in a bill for the holiday. I'd write explaining the situation to the governors and say you expect them to compensate you for the holiday and the time you have worked outside your contract. Also I'd state that in future you will not cancel holidays once booked, unless you get in writing, confirmation of compensation or the permission to take leave in term time.
  25. For us its probably all of the above. Management expect too much, I expect we can deliver too much. Unexpected interruptions from staff and contractors. Building delays, late deliveries. Extra work "that must be done" dumped on us by leadership at the last minute. Jobs taking twice as long as estimated due to hellish software. A team member not always pulling their weight. I could go on ......
