  1. I only finished the install of 2010 the other week - I had hoped the SP would leave me alone for a while :-(
  2. Looks good. A good development would be the ability to be able to set permissions of the files.
  3. I've ordered one, so I'll do a little review after it arrives
  4. Well we get all the harnessing tech money devolved to us. But we get billed for our broadband link (YHGFL). Only 6 months ago we signed up for a further 3 years (from 2011 to 2014) at an estimated £12K per year. Now this money has just vanished, cuts are going to have to be made - those Blackberrys for leadership are the first on my list, followed by digital signage :-)
  5. You could appeal to the Financial Ombudsman: Financial Ombudsman Service Or if its still within 28 days you signed up you might be able to get your insurance money back as you might still be in the cooling off period.
  6. It really depends on if you intend to use failover clustering. If you are you might need a small rethink. We use failover clustering and use 10 ports per production server. The extra two are for heartbeat of failover and hyper-v management. SCVMM also needs to be part of a domain, which means your hyper-v servers need to be in a domain (member servers at least).
  7. If you all had this at the same time, did have you had any gas appliances on? Remote chance of carbon monoxide poisoning: BBC - Health: Carbon monoxide poisoning
  8. I've travelled a lot on my own over the last 10 years, recently having been to the world cup on my own. What might make it a bit easier is doing something that you have an interest in - sports / cooking / art / etc. Then you know on your holiday you will meet some like minded people, which will give you something in common to talk about.
  9. Have a look at Microsofts Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) Download details: ADMT Guide: Migrating and Restructuring Active Directory Domains
  10. I use fastsms: Email To SMS : Two Way Messaging
  11. Perhaps look at the worst in each subject area - to ensure no department feels left out. Or ask subject areas to match the funding - go 50/50 on the replacement costs (assuming subject areas get money).
  12. How about something a little bigger - up to 65" Sahara Presentation Systems > Audio Visual > LCD Monitors > Interactive Displays >

    Dell or HP

Server - moving to all HP (great support from the 1 call I've made) Desktops - Stone (good after sales for years) Laptops - Stone / HP (both had issues) Switches - Cisco (under a support contract) Never used Dell - yet.
  14. We use 10 NICs on each of our cluster hosts: 4x ISCSI 4x VLAN 1x Heartbeat 1x local domain
  15. For the cluster you need clustered shared volumes. For this we've used iSCSI. If both servers can access the SAS connected storage at the same time, then it should work
  16. I'd have a word with your local authority too, mine told me they can get a contract for £4 a month with unlimited voice calls to same network, more for data and no handset, but its not too bad.

    How hot?

Got to agree with you on this one, makes good sense all round.
  18. This would give best performance (just). However if in the future you intend to have a fail over cluster with a SAN for shared storage you can't do this - the passthrough (RAW) disk wouldn't be available if the VM failed over too another host.
  19. I've been on a weekend round trip to Cologne (sleeping on the coach), also done a week in Cyprus. After Cyprus I haven't volunteered for any more - I found it a bit stressful looking after a bunch of teens who only wanted to get drunk. One of our techs has been on the ski trip for a few years, the network manager has been on army camps. We find if we volunteer, the staff are usually more than happy to have us along.
  20. I was think just the other day how much USB ports have changed IT for us over the last few years - DIN5 keyboards Serial mice serial analogue modems ISDN modems DIN5 barcode scanners parallel port CF card readers Data portability was limited to CDs, a parallel port drive if you were rich - none of your USB drives back then. And how expensive things were - £10 for a blank CD-R that actually had gold leaf on it, £100+ for a 4x CD drive, £250 for an HP500 deskjet printer.
  21. Did you see the riot in Barcelona after they won the title at the weekend? Spain has a far worse record on fan trouble than English clubs, not to mention the racism.
  22. I'm after a few replacement power supplies for our AG Neovo E-17A monitors (about 10) Tried AG Neovo and their repair company - neither want to help The power supplies are 12VDC - 5A, centre positive, 5.5mm / 2.5mm From the manual: Anyone know where I can get some from?
  23. Its my first venture in to South Africa. Looking forward to it! Any recomendations of places to visit in PE?
  24. We use webhelpdesk for our service desk - it has some accounting options in there.
  25. I'll be there from 10th June for a month Basing myself near J'burg, with trips to Cape Town and PE
