  1. Not born to wear a mask, yet somehow using electronic devices to communicate with the whole world is perfectly natural...
  2. Had a request from our head of Science yesterday morning. "Can we change the Science classrooms to be called Black, Yellow and Chocolate?" Asked him which was which, and why those particular colours. Answer was "Then we'll have a black lab, yellow lab and chocolate lab!"
  3. I've manually added 5001649 into WSUS, having removed the original update from all our PCs. Hopefully will solve the issues we've been having with stripy printing. When the first teacher reported they had printing with white stripes in the middle, I was humming "Seven Nation Army" for the rest of the day...
  4. Loving the box arriving this morning. New socks will go really well when we have our "snazzy socks Friday" next week in memory of my box. Sugar rush to get me through the day too!
  5. Glad to see this thread - just had a teacher here with exactly the same problem. Thought I was going crazy but I've been remotely uninstalling the 2021-03 update, and evidently this member of staff hasn't restarted yet.
  6. Not so far - we were looking at using graphics tablets to pass around for "interaction", but then Covid came along and it's slightly less practical for the moment. I don't think a lot of our teachers use the interactive part of our current IWBs.
  7. We have started this process, replacing projector & speaker setups with branded domestic TVs for about the same price. Have "converted" two classrooms so far as a test, positive feedback from those staff so far.
  8. There was an accident on the M1 earlier, looked like a lorry full of wooden panels all over the place. Turned out to be a shed load.
  9. It does look more like a bodged "unpeel and re-stick" job than Photoshop to me
  10. As I've been an Octopus company for a few years now, I have to say I've not noticed any major issues in relation to them not having a specific IT department. If you take a look at their blog https://octopus.energy/blog/ one of the top row of articles is a "spotlight on Karim El Khazaani, Front End Dev Team Lead" so they've definitely got some IT guys there! EDIT: scroll down a bit and they've also got a tech internship
  11. Twitter thread by coin designer Christopher Ironside's daughter: https://twitter.com/IronsideKate/status/1360959039379750913
  12. Thanks - hadn't realised these Chromebooks had the 4 pole connectors, but then again it does explain the issues some children have of their mic being muted when the headphones aren't plugged in properly!
  13. We have had a request for some headsets with mics to use for the pupils in school. They need to work with Samsung XE303 Chromebooks, as these devices only have one 3.5mm jack then the headsets will need to be USB. Does anyone out there have any experience, and can recommend a budget option? All the ones I'm finding around the £15 mark look okay, but don't mention Chromebook compatibility.
  14. I expect she probably has a swan handler too...unless it was the swan getting tested?
  15. Reminds me of my old physics teacher, describing waveforms. The best way to remember amplitude is, imagine an ant climbing up the wave and eating his dinner. By the time he gets to the top, he'll have amply chewed it.
  16. We have a similar issue with our wage system, the email payslips require less secure apps to be turned on. This is only turned on for the account that the finance department use to send payslips.
  17. Who's that woman fixing the roof, singing Total Eclipse of the Heart? Don't know, but she's a bonny tiler...
  18. It's rather simplistic to summarise anyone's mood as "happy" or "sad". What would be the consequences if you just pressed "sad" every time you're asked? Are the bosses going to use this to give you support, or think you're a liability and give you the sack?
  19. There have been issues with Meet reported, but this is happening almost every day. Also problems with recordings - the "focus" doesn't change back to the teacher once a pupil stops talking. One teacher recorded registration, a ten minute session, about seven minutes of one child being recorded, who was silent after their initial "here"!
  20. We're having issues with pupils unable to join Meets through the link in Classroom, errors like "There's a problem joining this video call" or "You can't join this video call". Can't seem to find any cause of this, happens randomly to different pupils in different classes.
  21. Had this from a couple of teachers over the last few days: When playing back a recording of a classroom Meet call, the "subject" of the recording will change to a pupil, sometimes when they talk, sometimes when they just "raise hand". That wouldn't be a problem, except then it doens't change back to the teacher... Got sent a recording of a lesson this morning, half of the lesson is one child sitting there doing nothing! There are no settings on Google Meet recordings. According to the Google help page "Recordings include the active speaker and anything that’s presented." Can't find any Chrome extensions that can alter this. Anyone else experiencing these issues? Or any suggestions for a fix?
  22. We've been testing staff on-site, as well as pupils in Y7&8, since the start of term.
  23. Quite possible my post was put in the wrong place. It's been a long week, and it's only Tuesday!
  24. Had mine done during inset, happy to be tested weekly but don't think there would be any issues if I said no.
