After buying a house, new car, and a few million quid in the bank to live off, I'd give the majority of it away. Immediate family, friends and colleagues (well, they would be ex-colleagues as soon as the money hit my bank account!) would get some. Lots of charitable donations. Like the idea of donating to random Justgiving pages. I'd also look at buying some land and building an astro pitch for the touch rugby club. Facilities would then be rented out to other local teams, only at a level so it was breaking even.

It's certainly not a top quality product, we have colour lasers that are used for photos etc. Our RISOs are used by teaching staff for worksheets and such like where quality is not an issue.

We've had three Comcolor 7150s for five years (contract up for renewal). They've been great, very few issues, print quality is not as good as a laser but they're a lot cheaper, quicker and more energy efficient. One has of ours has done about 1.5 million pages in that time, and (other than general service, worn rollers etc) has probably had at most a dozen service calls. Service is normally next day call-out for engineers, though if you call first thing sometimes it'll be same day.

Yes it is - I had several negative LFD tests, had a PCR last Sunday and came back positive. LFD are not very accurate, especially if you have symptoms.

Best option is as @simpsonj said - get some quotes for HD recovery (which will be hundreds of pounds, generally with no guarantee of data recovery) and leave it in the teacher's hands to deal with.

Certainly don't open the casing on the drive itself. There is no way this will help, and once it's open it will expose the platters to dust etc. which will only make it worse.

On this last point, there may be some hope - if you open up the external drive and use a different circuit board, you may find it's the USB connection that's at fault and you can get it working again - at least, for long enough to get the data off. As others have said, beware helping out people and expecting credit. I had a similar situation with a friend a few years back, faulty USB stick. Retrieved the data (literally had to hold the thing at a certain angle for an hour while the data transferred, any slight movement and it stopped working) and copied to a new USB stick. Got a "thanks" - didn't even get the money back I paid for the new memory stick!

Wish I'd had the same principles! Went to a gig last week, first night out in ages, no-one wearing masks (though a lot of people there were drinking almost continuously!) - then got pinged at the weekend. Could in theory be from work, but most likely from the live music event.

One of our teachers has this issue with Powerpoint (we're using 2010 - I know it's out of date, the plan was to move to using Google completely, now it seems we're off to Office 365) where the screen suddenly goes blank - no sidebar, no slide window - unless you do something like search for clipart and it'll come back! Any ideas? I'm thinking as a standard approach just to reinstall Office and see if that helps.

Mask wearing in local Sainsbury's was less than 50% today, does seem to be a case of "I've had my jabs, don't need to bother any more" though there were some younger people without masks who aren't likely to be double jabbed.
