Went for an interview at another school before Christmas for an IT support manager role, here's how it went: Arrive, meet Head of IT, tour of school Written task - three questions: backup regimes, server setups, networking Safeguarding interview with deputy head & governor (mostly as said above, common sense "know who the DSL is" stuff) Sit in the staff room and chat with other candidates in between Position was being decided on the day, so found out at the end I wasn't getting the job. Always have questions to ask - even if it's basic stuff like working hours, term time only or 52 weeks, who you report to etc. Shows you're interested and have something to say back!

Both! I washed up a dozen or so teaspoons first thing this morning, went back a couple of hours later and they'd all been used and left in the sink...

This explains everything! It must be because birds aren't real that I felt so ill over the weekend, after eating "turkey" for Christmas dinner (along with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips, cauliflower cheese, carrots, broccoli, sprouts and gravy - followed by Christmas pudding, chocolates, cheese and biscuits) - it's the electronic parts in the "bird" that caused my digestive distress...

Really? "Formula 1 rules dictate that the top three drivers in the championship must attend." Hamilton throws a tantrum and doesn't show up, if the rules say he should be there, then there must be consequences for breaking them.

Nothing has been mentioned here about any potential working from home scenario. New head starts in January so she may well have to make these decisions before she has got to her office!

Had booster Sunday, felt awful yesterday, feeling much better today. Much more pleasant than the experience of having a mild case of Covid earlier in the year!

When I were a lad (not THAT long ago) our village was regularly subject to power cuts, probably once a month at its worst. The cupboard under the kitchen sink had the candles & matches in it. There was a camping gas stove and kettle to hand for making a brew. Now, as an adult who lives alone, I have nothing like this. I've got an LED torch for light, but no way to cook or boil water without electricity (unless you count a blowtorch!)

No issues with site team having access to our server room, as the main "server room" is my office. As it's on the first floor, and in the middle of the block, there's an exit to the ICT room (which leads onto the stairs) and another door which is the fire exit from the room on the other side. Weirdly this means we've got a set of keys on a hook inside the office - if there's a fire and we're not in, the door to the office would be locked, and someone using the fire exit would be stuck. We have a backup server, stuck in the corner of what used to be a store room but has since been expanded and turned into an office.

Depends on the tests, our school is still working through the old stock so it's nose and throat for us...

I saw those numbers too, I think they've got them the wrong way round - showing vaccinated rather than unvaccinated - as 3439/3762 is approx 91% and 2408/2736 is approx 88%. Quality local journalism, no longer employing sub-editors to check items before publication.

Confusion over how many care staff missed deadline So, it appears there's either 953, or 190, or 143 - or maybe more, or less - care home workers in Northamptonshire who have lost their jobs due to lack of vaccination. That's a big variation in numbers!

We're in danger of going round in circles on the personal choice v government legislation angle, but you're (deliberately?) missing the point again. It's not the care workers I'm worried about - they've made their choice, rightly or wrongly, and have to leave their job. It's the people like my grandmother whose care will suffer, and the fact there's already a recruitment crisis in care homes and the NHS, it'll only get worse.

This is exactly what I meant. If "the five" are being let go, it's not like there's a massive group of replacements to choose from.

I'm not disputing the fact that the care home staff have chosen this path, and it's their choice to either (a) have the vaccine or (b) lose their job, it's the impact on those most vulnerable people that concerns me. My grandmother (and the last remaining grandparent I have) is in a care home. Would I rather she was being looked after by 5 staff who are unvaccinated, or a care home with 5 fewer staff and therefore people working extra hours, more stressed and tired? Not sure which is the bigger risk to be honest.

Even if they choose to have the vaccine, and not just change careers, that doesn't solve the problem in the care homes though - how are they going to fill all those posts in the meantime? A care home that has to fire 5 or 6 staff due to them not having the vaccine won't be able to replace them immediately.

Fortunately, the massive staffing issues caused by removing thousands of unvaccinated staff from care homes, and then potentially tens of thousands from the NHS, will be solved by the huge queue of qualified and willing health care professionals outside every job centre in the country.
