Yep I think the thing is you “have” to change your curriculum to fit it. At least without lots of workarounds We are just looking at options to move our Trust over time as we are building some new schools so hoping to make a blue print school for the rest to follow For example, use an online CAD/CAM package rather than local therefore no files to sync in the first place Drop Photoshop, use something like pixlr etc Same with media etc, if you’re uploading files to an online editor and editing them there no syncs etc Obviously all added costs. But my go to thought in the way we are looking to plan this is “how would you do this in a chromebook school” (not saying use chrome books, but think about how they’re get around it) Steve

That error just says HyperV is failing to make a snapshot so normally wouldn’t be directly Veeam related. Can you manually make a snapshot in HyperV without it failing? Could be a few things like VMMS service stuck, lack of HDD space for the snapshots (shadow copy wise etc) You’d normally have better logs showing in event viewer regarding why the snap shot failed (as in windows events) Steve

When you say the newer driver which one do you mean? The Wacom website has 6.3.41 for the Intuos (2020 but that’s the newest for that tablet) And all the way back to 6.3.8 (2014) available to download Steve

Biggest issue we’ve found is the amount of ram they waste for graphics On our HPs it sets to 2GB ram reserved for graphics bringing 8gb machines down to 6gb and there’s no option in the HP bios to reduce this (unlike ASUs etc from research) So be careful with what brand you go for if you mind the ram loss! (Of course if anyone knows a fix great!) Steve

Not sure if it’s different on your models but for ours there’s a small small small admin button in bottom right of the connecting screen that uses the local machine admin login Steve

Good Morning All, Just trying to help a local primary school and having some issues with the instant Aruba style controller It shows they have multiple APs down but there doesn’t seem to be any logical way to pull the information about which ones as they no longer appear in the active AP list? There’s no recent events so guess they’ve been down a while Is there anything hidden (or me just being blind) that would be able to list them? Seems odd to be able to tell me multiple are down but not to show me them, and thus they don’t even show in the reports area either Many thanks, Steve

Have you disabled uac etc? They shouldn’t be able to raise that permissions remotely normally as it’s admin requirements If you run secpol.msc on a machine then go to local policies, user rights assignment and check force shutdown from a remote system does it have anything in but administrator group? As mentioned above When I last did this I just shrunk the disk volume on the original server before running disk2vhd As it copies the volume rather than the VHD behind it if you shrink the 20TB volume to say space+1TB, then copy the image, import new server and then expand the volume to 10TB etc Again As above you might need to defrag etc so all the data sits at the start but that’s my normal route One thing to note, if it won’t shrink enough it’s likely to be the virtual memory cache etc, you can turn that off restart vm and it’s likely it’ll let you shrink it further Regarding the drives query, it’ll create a VHD per “disk” normally, not volume as it’ll copy partition info etc so depends how you have it split now Steve

By default it’ll embed a file association to whatever the pc that’s saving it uses So if Acrobat is installed (and defaulted) it would normally embed that way, but if the file association isn’t with acrobat it shouldn’t embed that way Appreciate you don’t want to uninstall it but is changing file associations an option? Otherwise think you’ll have problems without scripting imports etc Steve

We remove shutdown from the start menu via GPO Obviously won’t stop someone pulling a cable etc but most will just hit restart then instead Monitor wise we haven’t ever had that issue more the opposite of people not turning off! Steve

You jinxed it Just doing a new install at a school and trying the config editor (previously always did manual xml) If you click on an option, and then use the keys to move up down to another option and then save it it saves to the wrong option For example click in ad_auth_pass Press down twice to go to ad_getcandidatenames Change this to 1, hit save and it changes the ad_auth_pass Works on all other boxes too Seems you’re referencing mouse clicks somewhere rather than selected boxes Steve

The short answer would be if you have 100+ staff switch to EES licensing under the chest agreement Still get KMS keys, and get device based 365 licensing (not shared 5 user style) Worked wonders at my last place, and means you can still add on all the OVS options for licenses Steve

I'm curious about recommendations for things (generally older software) that still relies on on-site storage. Most the previous threads around this seem to rely on either manual fixes (things like the USB below for imaging), or just refusing people usage of these until they pay for upgrades etc As a few examples: 1) The kind of software that require "shared tool" areas, or something like Techsoft that requires locally hosted license files to run the software locally (Sibelius license server etc)? Are you then having a small server still to run this? doing it off a pc that's not backed up etc? Paying through the roof for Azure VMs/VPN? 2) Things like re-imaging for dead HDDs, as unless you're using USB drives etc to manually install Windows first before autopilot? Or again running a localised WDS/SCCM off a non-server hardware? 3) Supporting legacy devices like old printers/sublimations that won't support Universal printing? Again I assume long term wise you'd phase them out, but in terms of usage until that case 4) Things like CCTV servers/heating/boiler systems, that either rely on heavy storage locally, or on-site tech/bits Just some random examples that don't seem to be covered by any new cloud-based setups, or require almost dumbing down the current solution to be able to work with cloud setups (USBs for imaging as an example), just wondering if you've seen any other alternatives for these kind of things Thanks, Steve

I mean honestly it could be related to a lot of things, but just to clarify are you using a separate SMTP relay? or straight to the Exchange box? Have you restricted the relay (or receive connectors or whatever Exchange calls it nowadays, not used on-site for a while) to certain IP addresses and not added the new server into it? (or actually change anything on it if it's set to not allow external services?) Steve

I’m assuming you mean hybrid devices? As azure wouldn’t have an OU If so we use dynamic group devices using displayname (Device.displayname -startswith “example”) etc, just type it rather than pulling drop downs And as our devices in OU are named per room it works fine That kind of thing? Steve

Not that I have a solution yet, but funnily enough I was called to a local primary last week regarding similar issues Unifi swapped to Aruba and now there are locations where even the opposite side of a wall has no signal anymore Only thing I did wonder but need to have a look at is if there’s something silly with 2v5ghz bands, as to whether it’s trying to prioritise one that’s not working well compared to the previous etc (eg 5 now vs 2 previously?) We've had our line replaced over summer and now have a Sophos XG in place, and get no end of problems every day with it. Always something new broken that worked the day before. Management are already considering ditching it and putting our Smoothwall back in place just to get a stable connection again If you find any words of wisdom to any of your issues Wirral would be interested to hear, as no doubt we'll see them pop up sometime, so always good to know in advance Steve

Most switches (proper managed ones) have something like broadcast protection that send special packets out, if a port detects that packet it disables and cuts it off But obviously have to config it not to be on uplinks Steve

The local policy definitions one isn’t replicated between DCs it’s only local to said DC you update it on (Not even as local sysvol does) The other one is the central store which is shared between them all In terms of the error I wouldn’t worry as you shouldn’t be using/updating that one if you have a central store Steve

Generally it’s just mean a one-time purchase, but yes they can cancel it and you’d have no rights (as you normally agree to it in the Eula) Generally though it’s unlikely they’d cancel it unless you’re abusing it, it’s more frequent for things like old activation servers to go offline which means you couldn’t reinstall it in future etc Steve
