I guess the best way I can explain it would be like this. 1) So take 2004 as your current built, every month you get normal window updates (some of these are active updates, others are hidden and dormant features that are new but you can't see). 2) When testing for 21H1 is complete, they can just release a small update to "enable those dormant items" that are already installed on your computer from previous updates. 3) This then repeats each time so then you install some windows updates, with hidden 21h2 features, and again after testing they flick the dormant items on, therefore you've already installed those updates in the past just enabled them. Compared with the feature update it's installing all of those updates you already have installed from scratch as such, so it takes the time for all of those to enable/install etc We haven't used a single feature update since entablements were used really, unless we find an old device that's ancient to upgrade And then when we update our images over Summer and do refresh builds it just continues that way, we deploy 21h2 and the next enablement comes along and upgrades etc repeat the windows lifecycle Steve

If it’s things like azure VMs you can prepay for 1/3 years with them, so the main cost will stay the same Obviously if you have lots of paid for api etc that’ll change but the base cost shouldn’t increase unless you change spec/storage etc Steve

I mean the enablement patch not a full rebuilt. The upgrade file for anything between 2004-22H2 is a less than 1mb file to upgrade them in place and a few minutes That was released back in July, and should be easily testable on a few of your machines in advance. Takes about 5 minutes to install tops Then when you next do a full rebuilt you’ll already have tested it anyway Steve

In reality 21H2 and 22H2 are same base all the way back to 2004 so shouldn’t cause much issues However I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just push the enablement patch out, few minutes and it’s upgraded and gives you another year on top it’s not a real upgrade anywhere from 2004-20H2-21H2-22H2 Steve

Do you have anything setup like automated scripts/emails when it gets low that it might be flagging? Still would advise event viewer for applocker all the answers lie there! Steve

The easiest thing is check event viewer It’ll log the exact path and reason it’s blocked applocker Could be a number of items, like you blocked scripts that map things, shortcuts, anwrong file in system32 like explorer etc It’s under apps & services - Microsoft - windows - applocker and then the four types of applocker rules have their own logs Steve

Just as a note, but regarding your cube/pi, there should only be a 100mb requirement for Steamlink as it's capped at 100mb (or at least was last year when I last looked), even the unlimited option actually means 100mb so you shouldn't notice any difference between the two, unless it's the hardware of the smartTV causing the problem Pi wise, there is an xbox bluetooth driver for it (xpad is the generic one but that's also xboxdrv and then joystick on top as another addon), takes some work getting sorted but should work for your requirements and would be worth checking out Overall though, yes I think it's your requirement list you're after a computer really rather than a TV box! You'd be better off buying the device licenses for that number of users rather than named licenses Named ones go from 300+ (£4.21~ at Adobe direct pricing rather than reseller) Devices 25+ (£21.12~ at Adobe direct pricing rather than reseller) So even working off those figures "before reseller discounts", you could buy 25 device licenses for £528 a year saving a whopping £5k+ (https://www.adobe.com/uk/education/schools.html right at the bottom of the page) Steve

Good Evening All, While not entirely a MIS related question it seemed the best fit for the forums. We're having no end of problems with the writeback to SIMs (ePraise -> Wonde -> Scomis) at one of our schools, with sync speeds today taking up to 6 hours to write back properly. Of course everyone is blaming eachother, Scomis say it's Wonde service, Wonde blame Scomis hardware etc etc and we're getting nowhere in months. To give an example, a writeback that started at 11:16 only completed at 18:14 today! I'm particularly interested in anyone who uses ePraise as to whether you've had terrible MIS writeback speeds today (or recently as we get 1 hour+ on most days despite it supposed to be a few minutes), and specifically looking to see if anyone else experiences the same (either not using Scomis, so local-SIMs/Bromcom/Arbor etc, or if using Scomis and not getting the issues) Additionally, anyone else not using ePraise but using Wonde/Scomis and noticing similar issues on other websites with writebacks? You might want to check that out in real numbers as if you're referring to those powerdown ones they use quite a bit of energy in standby mode (0.5w) compared to any newish monitor/TV, looking at an AOC example of 0.2w in standby. They're more for heavy usage items, and of the 3 plugs one is always-on (master e.g. TV, always on, and slave) so only 1 shuts down power (slave) so don't think it's saving with the other socket Steve

Good Morning All, We have recently been asked to look at a local school who’s still using RM CC4 and I just had a few questions for anyone in the know Do you “have” to use the RM console for everything? Or can I still deploy software via GPO? Set updates via WSUS console etc? Just seems odd that they don’t have things like any updates deployed in two years, and wasn’t sure if RM restrict one’s that they’ve checked etc or if Noones just deployed them Still waiting on getting access to the RM support portal as everything help article seems locked! Also, does anyone have a Adobe reader package they wouldn’t mind sharing? Seems there isn’t an App Wizard computer setup and it doesn’t seem to like importing non-RM packages, and they want to use some old software that only works with Adobe Reader Many thanks, Steve

Depending on how you linked it are you sure it is the exact link? For example school.internal\program.exe isn’t the same as school\program.exe in terms of the site assignments Also if it’s intranet based it should be zone 1 not 2 (unless you meant just site to zone) You then also would need to check so you have the “show security warning for potentially unsafe files” set in Intranet zone (or a low/bypass config for the file type set) Steve

Out of curiosity how are you setup across the schools Can they all print to one another via hive? Or is that effectively 45 separate installs? Just looking at future planning for printing trust wise, and comparing MF via Azure server to get full features like stapling etc etc to Hive for real serverless especially for primaries etc Would be great to hear some more regarding it! Our school just moved over to Sophos before I started here, and frankly everything on it seems more faff than Smoothwall, as mentioned above by Chris Four months into it and we are seriously considering taking the hit and dropping the UTM and moving back to Smoothwall. Had more issues in these four months than years on Smoothwall, and honestly just lack confidence in the reliability of the product/setups Especially as going forwards our Trust is looking to merge all connections to single Brands/contracts etc and if we are struggling this much to get one school sorted out, can’t imagine the pain of getting 10+ Steve
