Going to either OVS with EMS or Campus with full A3
Steve21 replied to m0bov's topic in Licensing Questions
Not sure if you know (appreciate some schools are smaller), but EES is only 100 users under chest agreements rather than 1000, so generally most secondaries would be able to Obviously an issue for primaries etc as you said Steve -

Who are you defining as a light user? As we basically found no-one in the Trust that fell under that category really (apart for external guests etc who wouldn’t need 2fa etc) Steve -

EES can still have additional products added in like windows server, so no requirement to buy it out Unless you mean CSP wise? Steve -

That’s not right regarding the KMS keys, as I raised that at my previous work place when we changed to EES and we got them enabled on it, so that’s an easy win on that side Regarding time, it took a little longer than a standard renewal as you have to do the chest and then the renewal as two orders (or at least we did), but nothing to worry about really as there’s overlap built into the expiry dates Steve -
Virgin Media - Outage 4/4/23
Steve21 replied to MatthewL's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Yep total outage this morning it seems Even cloudflare tracking it as seems it’s hitting o2/virgins own website etc Steve -
Yep we had one like that are my previous work. Dell server with Veeam locally, local storage (split for VM replications/backups), and tape drive (We found it was cheaper with Dell to have an external drive compared to internal, but depends on the day with them) Worked lovely Steve

Filtering/Firewall Logging Data Retention
Steve21 replied to psynegy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I’m not sure where it’s from, but as part of our new build being done atm DfE has 12 months requirement of log retention for suppliers to meet Steve -
Cost of living crisis 2022 - what have you cut back on?
Steve21 replied to Ditto's topic in General Chat
Have you considered putting up your monthly budget and letting others see if they can give advice? (Whether here or on the Reddit money forums etc) There are lots of people who are having issues across the country, but only you know where your money is going currently, but the type of comments you’re making about people bragging etc just because they’re discussing how to save money isn’t going to help anyone Steve -
[ms office - o365] New outlook - any way to refresh the inbox?
Steve21 replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in Office Software
Microsoft response to it was basically na-na beta! (And to report issues via the feedback option) Steve -
Shared mailbox in O365 Automatic Replies not being sent externally
Steve21 replied to kennysarmy's topic in Cloud Services
That might just be the “feature” If you have internal and external it shows one failed on the trace despite working Test it on an external account and see if it’s working. As I’ve had that multiple times and yet when I test it it does work oddly Steve -
Using DISM to fix a corrupt Windows 10 install - anyone had success trying?
Steve21 replied to Ditto's topic in Windows 10
A few things to check, first you're missing the / off /source (unless typo'd above). Secondly I normally use source with a WIM file, so it needs the full path H:\install.wim etc (never tried it direct but might work) Thirdly, I found before that it sometimes needs the same WIM image as the version installed, e.g. 20H2 WIM won't always repair a 21H2 image etc Steve -
Anybody using Davinci Resolve in their schools? Can you hide the C:\
Steve21 replied to Jaan's topic in Educational Software
It’s not domain policy That’s just standard Windows “non-admin” permissions (uac etc) Steve -
Anybody using Davinci Resolve in their schools? Can you hide the C:\
Steve21 replied to Jaan's topic in Educational Software
We do it two folded We create the folder on all computers via GPO and then set permissions via Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > File System (Then setting admins only for modify) That way you have the same folder available on all machines to use for things like backgrounds/drivers/scripts etc Steve -

Steve21 replied to Jaan's topic in Educational Software
Assuming that’s a custom folder then? If so set a GPO to lock down the permissions on it as by default it’s allow users to delete it Steve -
This seemed a good point to show you this image of an exam back in October in Spain. You say "slightly used biro", I say cheat apparatus! Steve

Is there anything you think you need to do with a network admin account it? If not can’t you just setup local admin users for that purpose? Steve
-
You got an example from both systems? I made a spreadsheet to convert the most common ones at a previous job, so I could see if any of them match one of the common formulas. Steve
-
That’s happened for years depending on the setup I think the options were disable the auto save option in Word, or if doing it via smb etc you needed much higher permissions on the share to fix it Don’t think there’s ever been an official fix, more workarounds on it Steve

Are you sure you aren't hitting the send-limits on the account? There's emails per minute/hour/day if you're using standard 365 accounts etc https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/exchange-online-service-description/exchange-online-limits#sending-limits-1 Normally you'd use an SMTP style service for this that doesn't limit it (unless bromcom do it a different way) Steve
-
Are you talking about external RDP or internal? If it’s internal any reason you “need” to limit it by IP? You could restrict it via username on the host VM etc so only he can login anyway (in your scenario that’d be more secure than via IP if you’re referring to cyber essentials etc, and then allow internally IPs access via firewall for RDP just to the VM he needs I’m assuming that the VM you built is just a standard Windows box that he could log onto any other pc anyway? (Rather than with any other special permissions) Steve

Not sure if it’s still the same but using it as cloud station etc used to require double for versioning purposes Steve

We're finding it no use for writing back attendance currently. We have on-going issues going back to late September, where it's randomly failing to write back lessons/attendance. ePraise raised this with Wonde, Wonde blame Scomis and Scomis say it's Wonde. Repeated for months, with no real progress or answers. Now this can be random failures, massive delays etc, no logic or repitition as to when it happens or what lesson/teachers. e.g. 30 mins on one, 6 hours on another, some just total failures that never complete. Yet 10 between those write back fine in 30 seconds. Not had any fixed still from Wonde side, so basically we can't rely on the writeback - Generally the only ones who use it currently are PE staff who need to do it on mobile devices and just re-submit it if it fails (As a note, even in ePraise own documentation in their tech guide states not to rely on it - "Writeback is a complicated and intensive process, so we do not offer guarantees of writeback timings or reliability, given its reliance on so many variables outside of our control.") The fact that ePraise themselves state the above, kind of suggests that it's never going to be fully supported and is more a "nice to have" option Steve

Those wouldn’t be links but the actual old Apps deployed normally They’re all being migrated to PWAs by most companies, so it’s either a case they need to link to the new app (or if they unsupported tough it’s Google forcing you etc) As an example, Google have an office 365 app, that’ll change to the MS PWA etc Steve
