Assuming you have Veeam we do an Instant Recovery restore on our backup server (we have a virtual switch that’s internal only), pick that switch when doing the restore You can the login locally to the VM, run sims client on the server and test login etc all while isolated from the main network Steve

Microsoft Bookings Add 4x events for each slot to a new user (conference or whatever) - setup a service and publish it as a multi seat event (limited to seats for each event?) Would that work? Steve

We run both One CAD room with Pro, rest with for school And they’re currently considering whether they need pro anymore So I wouldn’t say there’s anything you can’t do in ForSchools unless it’s more that they want to do it in an odd way Steve

Sounds like a random Level 1 tech who doesn’t know You can certainly have a lot more than your FTE, you just need to request it (or just ask for the KMS key instead) As it covers all student machines as well as staff you could easily have 1000 devices but only 60 FTE etc Steve

Considering the gold beats the E5 in pretty much every part of its spec, unless you're struggling now on a bit with the CPUs I can't see the reason to go to the silver really. I'd assume most those 24 servers would be replaced or reduced going forwards with more cloud based systems, as that seems overkill in numbers of VMs for a modern setup (similar to the storage requirements) - Personally I'd spend the extra money towards upgrading those 10k drives if you hare spare, as that's going to be your bottle neck on those VMs running off that Steve

That sounds like you either have the OOBE screen/options still showing and it's waiting for input till timeout, or haven't stripped all the rubbish apps out of your images. As they'll install for every user when they login first time if you didn't (e.g. xbox game bar etc etc those sort) Steve

The policy for storage sense is for the end users/computers. Not server as simple as that would be It effectively empties their recycle bin when logged on, same as if it was dehydrated one drive Steve
-
By default it won’t You’d either need to setup storage sense policy (recycle bin being one of the options), or you can do a script on home folder server to scan over and delete them from each folder Steve

AI-Powered Report Proofreader - Testers Needed!
Steve21 replied to MrGravell's topic in General Chat
Honestly I can’t see many schools paying for this, the two main things you talk about doing could be done via an Excel formula and spell checker etc The gender/pronoun is just reading the gender column and doing a check if M and contains “she/them” etc (and a lot of reports fill that in from their name/variables) That’s before the questions that it sounds from your data protection video that you need to change names before sending it off to another company/program to do the actual checks is rather odd… if it’s not working off your own product what says it’ll still be around next time we want to write reports? It’s more likely that things like this will get added directly into the MIS going forwards, have you spoken to any of them to see about if it’s a direction worth continuing with Steve- 2 replies

Just as a note but you wouldn’t need to use force to map printers normal gpuodate would work which removes the issue mentioned as it’s only asking we you’re using force, as force just overwrites all gpos again But in regards to your query, you have it replying N to the first one, but then it’s waiting on the second So you’d need to add another echo at the start so it does two echos of N to answer both queries Steve
-
What’s the actual issue? As that looks like it’s working as you asked Says N to reboot then you’re asked if you want to log off If your machine is returning a reboot and then a log off option you’d need to echo twice out as you’re only responding to one so far Steve

Migrating MAT to VOIP phone system.

Slight disagreement in the numbers count Remember that internal calls are still part of the SC count, so going for 8 now would give up to 6 external calls as per SIP but then 2 more internal as well, so wouldn’t even consider the 4SC in that scenario While if for example you’re expecting the secondary to do 10 internal calls, as well as wanting 6 available for external it’d need 16SC Just something to consider as 4SC is terribly low for two schools I’d say else you are likely to end up with all calls locked at times and no external access Steve- 3 replies

Microsoft 365 license query - what is the difference
Steve21 replied to bwardautc's topic in Licensing Questions
Short version, A1 is web-based only (no desktop apps) A1 Plus is the old M365 Apps (e.g. Desktop apps) Steve -
Just the one one backup that covers everything - You can then do single-file restore level via that image with Veeam So no need to restore the whole disk unless you wanted to Steve
-
Just backup the entire VM (which would include all disks), then would be file level recovery as needed Steve

Azure Registered (with Cloud Sync) - Automatic Registering?
Steve21 replied to Steve21's topic in Cloud Services
There's no links between them currently and unlikely to be as moving towards cloud Thus the problem. The plan was just getting them all registered and starting to deploy things out like that until the full server rip outs Steve -
Azure Registered (with Cloud Sync) - Automatic Registering?
Steve21 posted a topic in Cloud Services
Am I missing the obvious here?! We have multiple sites currently with on-prem that we are working towards moving to the cloud, but as only one site can use AD Connect (which does hybrid sync) and the rest use Cloud Sync which doesn’t do devices there seems to be no way to get these all AZureAD registered automatically The GPO for InTune enrolment only works to work if they’re already AzureAD registered which is a bit of a problem!! Obviously don’t want to manually have to do it on thousands of devices Thanks, Steve -
Change the date to ad hoc and you get more options One of them being “transacted by” Steve

Yeah that sounds like the kind of thing we are after. They have 2011 iMacs currently so hopefully as they are that old it’s be easier to find something similar! Do you know what model you used out of curiosity? Had a flick through them previously but nothing jumped out to suggest it’ll be Mac like in their range Only ones I’ve found that sound fancy are the ASUS ProArt range Thanks, Steve
-
We are looking to upgrade our art suite and just wondering what people are using in theirs currently The normal iMac conversation has arisen at the school, but wondering if there’s any “fancier” screens people are using with windows to give a better image but still a decent priced machine Just the standard Photoshop etc is being used software wise so no real need for anything Mac based Thanks, Steve
-
We did this previously but all in house, we looked external but when you are in things like getting them into tutor groups to hand out, registering them on systems, re printing those with name changes spelling etc we found it too expensive to make it worth while Linked MIS to the template and ran through tutor by tutor etc, got them registered in one system to automatically pull across to others and got the badges handed to tutors to give out Be prepared to do lots of reprinting early in and ideally get SLT backing to charge for them after 1st loss! Would you join a Professional IT Association?
Steve21 replied to Kitkatninja's topic in General Chat
See I’m slightly different opinion wise I’m a MBCS (and MS MCTP/MCP etc) and just look at it like Union fees, a small daily tax (50p or so for BCS) that it’s there if you need it, eg looking fancier for job applications etc Same with unions, hopefully it’s never needed but it’s there for when it is Steve -
