  1. EEEEPPP! Time to go and fly helicopters/jets badly.........sideways.....into the enemy/ground/building/vehicles/water/ anything in my way!
  2. Not put many hours in yet but will get some in over the weekend, had a few glitchs including falling under the map, bushs starting to stretch across paths which was amusing, that was on the ps3 version. My new graphics card is no where near the recommended requirements by nvidia lol the minimum recommendations start at around £250! Still running it all on high without too much framerate drop!
  3. +1 for sharepoint on vle
  4. Request sent
  5. I just purchased a new PNY Geforce GTS 450 this weekend in an attempt to play battlfield 3 on a proper machine (not my ps3 or xbox) I had been rocking my old 9800GT for about 4 years on an old rig and never upgraded it when I built a new system last year -_-
  6. Demon souls was an evil game, never completed it only borrowed from a mate but if you want a challange I recommend it. To get a real idea of the game check out giantbomb (the best game review site around as they are genuine gamers who will express their opinion freely) Quick Look: Dark Souls - Giant Bomb For those who enjoy podcasts and games seriously check out their 'bombcast' 2hours + once per week on everything gaming related and alot of random banter. 7. STONE have always been very reliable and great service for us, not the cheapest around but their customer service is great and always been able to get replacement parts or someone out next day
  8. Browsing the news on the BBC website I came across this, sounded odd from the title and reading the article even more so, it sounds like its a very very broad concept they are looking at and not much more then that for now. If this was to happen I can only imagine the big brother society things will become and the huge security risk it holds. They also mention independant app development integration What would you like to see if you had an app of your choice on "urban os" BBC News - Smart cities get their own operating system
  9. I'm having a few problems with media info loading on file types that i really dont want it to, in fact I dont really want media info on but it was installed with the k-lite codec setup. A teacher is trying to open some .swf files but when you select them they just load up mediainfo and display information. Ive also tryed running this edit: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.swf] @="ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash" "Content Type"="application/x-shockwave-flash" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.swf\OpenWithList] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.swf\OpenWithList\IExplore.exe] @=""
  10. With our converted toilets housing both our office and server at least we have air con currently at 20C, I was just getting used to a temperature drop and brought a new coat last week then this happens! Short sleeve shirt all the way this week and refreshments in our fridge
  11. Profiles are mandatory, it was setup to run a bginfo config file using a logon script for each user which I have removed, it set staff to red wallpaper color (not an image) and pupils to blue with the users logon and computer name showing on screen but it very often didnt show the correct details. I'm pretty sure the background color is saved to the groups mandatory profiles, is there anyway to simply remove this rather then creating new profiles? We only have 3 lots of profiles, \profiles$\staff, \students and \tech.
  12. Since starting my 1st job in IT this year I have been living with the inherited problem of BGinfo not working properly, well the head has asked can every member of staff just have the school logo as a background and kids the same with students or staff account clearly displayed in text, sure ive created two wallpapers and set them up in GPO as the active desktop but first I need to finish removing this BGinfo. I have removed the startup script to run BGinfo and remove the bginfo files, I have also ran the registry removal script for bginfo on a few computers locally to test it out. I'm still getting the background colour set for users and im trying to find out why/where it is stored. Would this be part of the users profile? Or something local on machines from previous log in? Uninstall registry script: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bgi] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\BGInfo.Config.1] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\BGinfo] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\.bgi] [-HKEY_LOCAl_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.bgi] [-HKEY_LOCAl_MACHINE\Software\Classes\BGInfo.Config.1] [-HKEY_USERS\Software\Sysinternals\BGinfo]
  13. They were purchased before I was here but the same story applys, excess money / magic pot we must spend, fortune on 90 laptops and 30 cisco AP's and manager + install. NM tells me they wanted to improve current and make a new IT room which would be bookable by all departments to use and of course that would still of left us in pocket but overuled by others
  14. Great idea but we tryed this and had 6 laptops in our office for 2months without anyone even asking where they were. Then a member of staff asked if he could book the laptops out for in 3 weeks time (staff are limited to a 2 week period) which set we asked, it was a set on the other side of the school and humanitys laptops were free all day every day that week. He said their laptops were no good so they couldn't use them! Having checked their set only about 4 are fully functional for users to log on due to keys missing, one had 6 keys missing and I'd already replaced 2 keyboards completly last term. Looking at the bookings looks like the past few weeks members of staff have been using free rooms and booking other departments laptops out to avoid using missing sets which are better looked after.
  15. I'm sure we are not the only school having problems keeping laptops in good condition but its getting to the stage of taking the pee at times now. I have just checked a trolly of 15 laptops, only 3 didnt have keys missing and I have replaced 3 screens in the last 2months. All laptops are stored in lapcaddy trolleys in a locked room, 15 per trolley. Staff can book each set for what lessons they want up to 2 weeks in advance but some are booked out for certain lessons each term. The trolleys are all named up by the area/department they are in and should only be used in that area of the building to avoid confusion and staff hauling the things around the school daily (not that this stops them or damage to the trolleys). We have mentioned about getting each pupil to sign next to the laptops name (the deparment letter + number 1-15) on some paper each lesson then sign off and the teachers perform a quick visual check when handing them out and putting them back in the trolley each lesson, but keys and parts get damaged without appearing on logs...... then no one seems to know how or when it happened pointing the finger at other bookings. Oh and we have 90 laptops in totalfor students use + staff laptops. So i'd love to hear how other people have enforced staff and students to look after the laptops or possibly havn't and put up with the frequent repairs!
  16. Just waiting till monday now
  17. We have on site warrenty so I have already reported it, just wondered if we coud of solved it first but we don't stock spares and its not worth my time swapping parts around from different machines, still have 5years on site next day warrenty
  18. Here is a photo of what was greeting a member of staff on loading his computer up this morning and once last week too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/Bondbill2k2/SBmonitor.jpg This appears on both the monitor and projector and first time round I changed the monitor and DVI cable so I'd rule out the cables and displays out, these are new machines installed during the summer and out of 55 we only have this one having problems, would I be right guessing possibly a memory issue?

  20. Threw out some Viglan branded computers with 98 license stickers on them this summer, they hadn't been in use just in storage. ALso an Ergo laptop purchased in 2002, never heared of them myself. Looking at our records or scrapped machines oh how i'd love a high spec Viglen Contender (sounds a terrible name, it can try to compete but fail) Celeron 1.7GHz, 225mb ram, 8GB HDD. Our oldest machines still in use about once a week is in our Gym used for the rowing machine software purchased 2003, replaced the CRT on it during the summer just gone, good as new and a teacher laptop Ergo Mercury P3
  21. It was ok, quite a few cool games there, new goldeneye game looked nice but didnt play hardly anything, people were queuing for COD and BF3 for 3hours + to get 20mins of gameplay in! CRAZY! Just enjoyed looking around but the gadget show was far better with some cool new stuff rather then just games
  22. One of our departments has a set of D-Link DSB-C310 webcams which they want to use with our laptops, I have downloaded the drivers after some hunting around D-links archives and put them in a shared area, I then tested a couple of cdesktop and laptops machines with the webcam, every time you plug the webcam in you have the normal prompt of XP new hardware found do you want to find the drivers or select a location to search removable drives etc.... Well I select the area contaning the drivers, drivers are found, windows does its thing and the cam works. Remove the webcam and plug it back in the user is prompted for hardware setup, new device detected once again. I'm aware the webcams are pretty old and were discontinued Jnuary 2008...and they are not windows 7 compatible which we will require next year so I have proposed the purchase of some nice new logitech ones with a nice exe install with softwre and drivers which I have tested and confirm no problems but I wondered if anyone here could help to avoid these C310's being thrown away. Thanks.
  23. Love the narrator on that game, only played the demo! New elder scrolls looks pretty epic too! http://www.giantbomb.com/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-e3-gameplay-demo-part-3/17-4860/
  24. Yep terrible phone will struggle with alot of apps, runs okish on my HTC Hero but its 2 years old and runs perfect on my gf's HTC Desire, faster then iOS on my old 3GS Iphone
  25. Started playing dead island yesterday it seems pretty good. Playing it on the PC with an xbox pad and you really should switch your controller to analogue mode so you can direct your wepon hits to break arms and cut heads off better. Also playing rock of ages on the xbox arcade and Driver SF, both great fun!
