During the summer we setup a few windows 7 machines for use on our admin side, all reception and admin have had windows 7 computers and it has been fairly trouble free apart from one or two very annoying problem. We run 2 vlans curric & admin and two dcs curric and admin. Admin staff have no policys on just their ad usernames no other settings applied and their files are stored in a number of shares on the adminserver when and where required. We have a logon.bat which maps these drives, 1 of those drives maps to a staff document share on the curric dc, we do not have trusts between the dc's setup and this has not been a problem as admin staff are prompted when accessing the curric server for their curric logon. The strange thing is this mapped drive will loose connection, when you try to reconnect sometimes you will get "the network name/share is not avaliable"....ok so I try disconnect then remapping "could not be found". Attempted to run or ping to the curric dc also fail, 5mins later I try again the the mapping works again. The map drive may stay connected for hours, days or minutes it really varys, other times soon as you restart the windows 7 client the drive correctly maps again. We currnetly have the user disconnecting the drive and running a map script every time they loose connection as its not often they need to access the share but as previously mentioned this will not always work and its proving to be a headache! Any help would be great or ideas thanks!

This is what im trying to tell them as they asked for some youtube downloading software or a website which they used to use to be unblocked since we changed over to smoothwall. Ill look into which unit it is as I asked yesterday and was told unit 2 and the teacher in question also posted on our Help desk saying unit2 so i'll let you know when cleared up! Those tilting screens look great for a young audience, again buying tech for the same of saying you have it does seem abit of a waste and it soon becomes the norm in a school enviroment I think. IWBs are not used as much as they used to be, sure they are in all classrooms but they dont get used to any advantage over a keyboard and mouse and the kids who once impressed by the tech onw couldn't care less.

Used the sat nav on my HTC Hero and a HTC Desire both android both better then my old TomTom, hook it up to the cars bluetooth or AUX if you have it and use it for music, fadaes the music out for announcements so its much better then using a little satnav speaker Its £80 for the UK and Europe maps or £50for UK & Ireland then around £40 per map set for aus,hong kong etc.... Could just buy a cheap android phone for that

Well last night before leaving I asked one of our ICT teachers for more information, aparntly they are doing unit 2 and require to create a web design that they are doing in powerpoint and part of the mark scheme is implementing interactive elements, they have asked their classes to design a website for a charity concert with their artist of choice so the pupils 'need' to use content by their musicians they have already documented..... Do you have any sources for copyright free MP3s? I'll take a look and see what I can find but if you have some sources that would be great thanks!

We found the same problem with Itunes when it trys to connect to the itunes store on a computer so we were unable to setup the ipads on our workstations, the itunes app works fine tho so im guessing completly differetn servers between those two itunes services

I was wondering how have other schools taking OCR Nationals asked pupils to create their multimedia website content for OCR Nationals ICT Unit 2? We have had a number of requests from teachers for youtube unblocking and video downloading software so pupils can download both music and video from websites to use in their websites. I've not read alot into unit 2 yet but I assume providing the content they use is video content and audio it allows students to get their required mark schemes and the actual content of the multimedia elements is not that important? Previous years with our old internet filter and previous technicians pupils filled up their storage like mad with different formats of music videos and ripped audio from youtube using download sites.

They will be aware of this, people who complete the game and dont want it anymore will trade it in for another newish game, cex will then bulk its stock up, they will offer a good trade-in or cash value but can still sell the game for under £40 with a decent profit margin. The profits on new games suck and game and gamestation are really trying to move alot to preowned for their cash flow. Give it a few months cex will have huge bulk of MW3 and sell them off cheaper in large quantity, they will also distribute them between stores equally. When the Wii Fit came out and I worked at cex we sold them for £30 more then they were new! Our trade in was also better then anywhere on other items so people would buy it and be better off then a trade in at GAME. They offered the RRP for a trade-in on them too so people who had brought them before christmas would trade them in before being opened, we had one seller who traded one in for cash then came back an hour later with 5 of them who walked past WHS as they put a sign up saying more in stock, they traded the lot in for £100 each and we sold them all in about 3hours for £130. I think the prices have gone up abit again for christmas and the launch of a new zelda game, it wont last for long as the WII U has already been announced. CeX are selling Wii's for £55 anyway at the moment!

I do have memorys of in year 2 playing a game on some form of computer, an RPG Text game I suppose you could call it you had to go throught a house and perform certain tasks, I renember something to do with a wolf and the characters grandmother? Yep its a 5.25", I took it into the IT lesson next door to which the kids were amazed by the size and even more when I explained they only have 1.2MB of storage and a year 7 askineg "was it from the 50s" We have a machine still in use by a member of staff at home, a viglan contender which I found some warrenty details on during the cleanup. They asked us about upgrading it last week along with their ergo laptop

Its nice to have a monday morning where your not rushed off your feet by a heap of work, requests, problems or the dreaded hardware failure if your unlucky but I started my day just like that and decided I starteed here in January and i'm yet to give this office a really decent tidy up and sort the piles of folders and paper on the many shelves and draws, 30min into my cleanup I find this I have now found 3 of them including Barcode programs v2.0 Altek, BBC master series microcompputer welcome and utilities disc and one simply branded Fuji, I know the office needed a clean but this is taking the pee

Im tempted to go for an ssd ive been reading alot about the seriously noticable speed up on OS startup and gaming. Now is not the best time with a hike in storage prices due to flooding in Thailand, around 20-25% increase from only a few months back!

We have recently had pupils getting an error message every time they close word wit hthe global template from their shared mandatory profile asking them to save changes, how do I setup word to import this template at startup (it just puts their name in the footer and sets a few settings) and not try to save on close? Any help would be great, thanks!

I did the same thing in the end outlook with no email support on separate profiles and all worked well apart from I left the american keyboard on 1 of the user profiles -_- only needed it for the @ on emails so shift+2 was fine

I'm currently setting up some user accounts for edexcel functional skills exams and the users require offlne email access to print screen and demonstrate the email process so naturally we are setting up outlook for users as we currently only use an LG based outlook. My problem is we are using mandatory profiles and have multiple exam accounts which all use the same mandatory profile. Outlook was configured to create their personal folder in the mandatory profile app data but when more then one user is running outlook the other cannot log in, how do other schools have this setup?

To say this game uses a much improved engine over MW2 is stupid, frostbite is so so much better on both console and PC. The EA collective resources such as body tracking/movement library from Fifa, Madden and Tiger woods with the racing components from NFS and burnout and newer additions of great sound effects, crazy lighting and shadows and improved rendering mean EA will shine on BF and the next Medal of honour game. So far I only know of two games using this engine, BF3 and the upcoming Need for speed which actually looks impressive in the more recent previews, in a recent interview they say how working with the DICE guys new engine allowed them to create great draw distance, quickly create detailed roads and add enviromental damage has helped. I believe so, also support kill rewards are different to the other classes, you cant get chopper gunners, airstrikes etc

Well looking at the achivments I have over half the campain ones on normal, the 4th level of act 2 I think in under 3 hours. Its very over the top all of the time, the cinematic sections dont feel nearly as well developed as the MW2 game and around 35% so far has been on rails vehicle/turret sections. Its not bad but its just not what I would expect 2 years on from MW2. Battlefield is far superiour in every aspect but I enjoy both for different reasons. The best addition appears to be the horde style wave survival mode which I have only played 1 game off, and the welcome return of spec-ops with zomebies no-where to be seen

Now thats pretty cool!
