I've only just got around to trying out this chrome msi, deployed fine and works fine on my tech account on the test computers, however logging on as a student or staff member gives the following problem . Our proxy shows up no issues and I'm not aware of any restrictions which should prevent the page running

Sorted, looks like quicktime didn't support using a mapped drive in the Chemistry sets .ini, when using a UNC path it works! Is there an easier way to replace the .ini on all our science lab computers rather then going around by hand? Im guessing scripting?

Codec for .mov files I have played around abit more and re-installing both the client side and servers copy of the CD, I also removed the old V4 of QuickCrime & K-lite codec before getting Ccleaner to clear out the reg and reinstalled K-lite. The videos would then play the Audio only when running via chem2000. I have also tryed using the new version of QuickCrime and now I get a nice Q?

Gave it a go using the format factory with MP4 and recreating as .mov files, still nothing. I thing your right SYNACK about the embedded player, one of the software requirements is IE so im guessing it may use IE with the quickcrime embedded player, it may be an IE issue even...

If I locate the video files used and open them in quicktime they play fine, they also play in VLC. I have installed the K-lite codec pack too so .mov should be supported in other areas, windows media player will play the audio but no video.

Revival of an old thread here, I'm having problems with the videos on Chemistry set 2000 on XP machines, the software is installed locally the CD is located on a mapped drive in the Cset.ini I have changed file association to always use quicktime for .MOV and I'm running an old v4 of Quicktime due to compatibility problems on newer versions but when trying to view a video I just get a blank box with the little picture icon at the top left.

We encourage staff to use the photocopiers in the staff room and reception, IT teachers have their own little laser brother printers which are local to their computer and dont get alot of use, students cannot print here either they have a print folder on their desktop which they can write too only and are told to submit work into a folder with their teachers name on with their name in the footer. These are printed by the teacher or by the librarian at lunch and the end of each day, work is then put in the relevant teachers pigeon holes to collect. We dont get huge amounts of waste tho, the only colour printers for teachers are in our office and the art department, only the art dep have print rights on that so its come to our office and face the wrath of wasted print Equitrac print management is used which we can set print prices for each printer for both colour and black/white, at the end of each month to bill departments for their printing, heads of departments also get a breakdown of who cost what where when why so they can ensure their departments are correctly using the printers. While it's not the most flexible system its cuts down on redundant paper and encourages proper usage. We also had a head of department ask if they could purchase a printer with their own budget if we choose it for them as they had purchased a job lot of around 25 toners, they are just billed for paper now and we maintain the monitoring on it for none department members to use and get charged back to their dept, proved a great saving as they print of entire copies of old exam sheets for each pupil fairly often.

Ours arn't too bad, most of our rooms are small Micro-atx based computers mounted with a bracket to the rear of the monitors, and the other room is big enough to have a full size classroom inside of the U area

We have 3 fairly large rooms and 1 smaller room.The 3 larger rooms have 31 computers in each, 30 for students and the teachers, 2 of the rooms which are both used for IT lessons and are located next door to our office are in a U shape with a line down the middle and the teachers is at the end of the central line, the really large room also has the same number of computers but just around the U edge, no middle section. The middle of the room is full of normal tables and chairs for regular lesson use so the room doesn't go to waste, its often used by PE and business studies for a mixture of computer usage and written work. The small room has 15 computers in and a video conferencing unit, both 1 portable 42" TV unit and a wall mounted cam

I'm looking at setting up a Wiki for our school full of useful information, to be used as a reference and for study alone with programming tutorials and ideas for users to try themselves. I'll have areas where students can submit their ideas and code or ask others for help solving problems or debugging and a link page which students can contribute to for resources and tutorials. It will also be useful for the ICT staff I'm sure being able to build up a library of easily searchable work, now I just need to brush up on my programming! So far i've just turned the attention of our ICT teachers to codeacademy.com and the w3c pages and validators. Those who have completed their year 11 coursework can have asked to look at the code and get an idea of what bits mean, play with CSS and mess around to see what affects your changes make using live view in DW, all their current work is entirely dreamweaver created and riddled with multiple layers of tables hashed together. When a student or ICT teacher asks me to take a look at their work and solve the problems they have created I 9 times out of 10 go straight to code and they look on puzzled asking 'whats all that?' Having given my 16 year old brother a HTML and CSS book he read the first few chapters then started messing around, downloaded a template from themeforest.com and tweaked it to make his own site, a good way to begin learning I think adjusting code, he has asked for help a couple of times and I have pointed him towards solutions but let him work them out himself and while getting annoyed at times he has always managed to work it out, its also worth noting he is dyslexic and often struggles with his reading, spelling and staying on task but has really enjoyed the learning curve and likes to show up his teacher at times with the code way to do things.....the horrible thing is while his current ICT teacher encourages he trys new things and learns this way his previous teacher tells him not to touch code and he will loose marks because of it. He is also getting into the habbit of testing multiple browsers for comparability, something he never did when using dreamweaver, if it ticked the IE box all was fine. This shows students are willing to learn this way, I have had students here ask me how do they make changes and having showen them how to edit the css they preferred that way! His website btw: http://www.joewphotography.co.uk/ I think java will be the best beginning point for teaching fundamentals of programming then progress to OO java before introducing other more advanced concepts, I think reviving some of my university work and programming fundamentals workbooks could help here! Use of access should still be taught to understand databases structure and concepts. Scenarios for them to build in access then document and convert to SQL would be a good way of breaking the boundrys between their current Office GUI and the powerful underlying tech for database systems. Merging different units together would be grand too, begin websites incorporating SQl databases and java applets for late years e.g. a visual booking system for cinema seats. However our ICT department have not mentioned anything to me other then they are worried they wont be able to teach depending on the curriculum requires. PS: sorry for that hijack!

If it were that simple! Had this problem with two pupils recently saving their flash work from Macromedia flash 8, the folder and files have read write and modify permissions for the pupil and checking on our server the file only has 1 instance open in the school, the one we are trying to save! Really baffled why this is happening and causing pupils to loose their progress for the lesson, any help would be great! Thanks

Any video converter crashs on around 45% on any video!

Does anyone here use any free software to resize videos as some are getting rather large file sizes! I'd like the ability to do a folder at a time, I would use handbrake but the videos are to be used in powerpoint and handbrake only exports to .mp4 and mkv formats

To make a return on this topic having left it for a while, the module in question is Unit 2 – Design and Produce an Interactive Multimedia Product, one of the mark schemes is Source and store suitable multimedia elements with the distinction being "Candidates will source and store multimedia elements including: text, images, sound, video and animation. Accurate acknowledgement of all sources given." Looking at students work it appears many have videos and listed their source as youtube, some have linked others have downloaded or sent files in from home over the learning gateway.

Twice last week I've been asked to checka problem students were having in their ICT lesson when saving their flash work, both times the student has clicked save as then been given an error for every item in the library saying the item is corrupt and should be deleted before saving. However they are only images which have been imported and can still be viewed/edited fine in flash. This is proving a big problem and causing students to loose lessons worth of progression each time it occurs. I'm guilty of this mistake more then once, the first time I sent an XP image to a dozen new machines, 2 BSOD both times and the rest were fine so I called up the supplier and had an engineer on site next day......it was just the sata mode! Embarising for me but its a mistake I wont make twice and I did have to ask why was the BIOS set different on these 2 of the same batch/order number?
