  1. I have seen topics with mention of this on here and very mixed views but with a new batch of CLT laptops coming very soon and the increasing requests for them to be able to use them both in school and on their networks at home I was wondering what the best method is. We currently operate a policy of a device used in school on the network remains on the network, if a staff member wants to use it on their home network then it shall be removed from ours permantly or until we have checked it over before allowing it back on. We also currently use Sophos and although im yet to read much into it would Sophos NAC be able to assist this task? I'm also yet to look into offline documents but its something which would be really useful to staff, if anyone has any advice or genral things to look out for then please let me know as this would be great! Thanks,
  2. Does this disqualify using shared folders in the path then? Ill have to check if we use a FQDN or folder share
  3. Hmm will disabling RSS have much noticable affect on the network and s erver performance? Pretty shocking that such a feature is related with so many problems! Either way ive made the changed and will get a reboot sorted asap but most our admin staff tend to work later then I do and don't see the need for reboots during their work hours!
  4. We are having some really strange problems with our mapped drivers on your windows 7 admin computers. We have a drive mapped to a folder on the admin server which is running DNS and DHCP server for the admin computers. When users click on my computer then click on the mapped drive the machine slooooooowly loads the folder content, when I say slow I mean slow several minutes however If you use run to the location via the mapped drive name its near instant, yet you are still using that mapped drive letter to get there not a direct path of that location........................... Oh forgot to mention our servers are all 2003 r2 Confused!
  5. As much as it sucks to see that weight increase over the holidays is great ot see it drop off and normly pretty fast as you start the new year and it gives you a good confidence boost I think saying "Look its not that hard you can loose this easy and you ate like a pig for 2 weeks!" Weigh in Sunday and im less then 2lbs off my early December weight again but I only went to the gym once last week and went to the pub the night before my weigh in for food. My main advantage is I dont drink. I think ill make the gym visits 3 times per week but more intense and longer rather then kidding myself each weekend saying I'll go 4-5 times then I end up kicking myself after making it twice. Thats given me a benchmark to try and beat thanks
  6. Managed to put on 8lbs over Christmas but I have now dropped 4lbs back off over the last week now at 209lbs.
  7. Found the AMT drivers that solved it thanks!
  8. A machine I have recently imaged is proving rather odd, the chipset and all other drivers have been installed but still each boot im prompted that new hardware is detected, PCI serial port without drivers. The computer has no devices connected to its PCI slots and I have double checked I have the latest chipset for this machine....
  9. I'm having an annoying problem on a laptop im trying to create an image on which will be used on another of the same model, these are fairly old dell laptops which we do not have the OEM XP disc around anymore. Im trying to use an external HDD with its own power supply as I often do and use on comptuers to quickly image machineas if required during school hours. I'm booting a standard ghost package from a USB made in ghost boot wizard, with USB enabled and the HDD plugged in at boot Im stuck at the Starting PC DOS screen and have no progress but it will boot fine without the external HDD connected. Without the USB enabled during the boot package making I can boot with the external HDD connected but it is not picked up.I have tryed using the -NOIDE -NOUSB -FNI and -FFX switches with no luck, if I use the -FORCEUSB ghost freezes loading up the GUI. I have used this HDD and ghost package mutliple times on other machines without any problems and im unsure what the best solution is.

  14. Hey guys, today I purchased a Logitech wireless bluetooth audio adaptor to use bluetooth from my Iphone to my PC speakers for music but also have my PC connected to the same set of speakers. The speakers are pretty normal set of sony PC speakers with a sub two speakers and a single 3.5mm for input. I brought a two into one out 3.5mm adaptor from maplins which both devices work fine via but when the PC is on and I play music over bluetooth the audio from the bluetooth device is very very quiet, a third of the PC, soon as you unplug the PC again full volume. What is the solution to this? Logitech wireless bluetooth unit with two outputs, 3.5mm and RCA- Amazon.com: Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter for Bluetooth Audio Devices (980-000540): Electronics Two 3.5mm to one 3.5mm Stereo Two-into-One Adaptor : 3.5mm Stereo Jack Adaptors : Maplin Electronics

  19. Having looked at some of our workstations stored user profiles I have noticed many have several dozen users mandatory profiles saved, shouldn't these be removed at users logoff or is there a purpose to this? Is there a quick way to clean this up or would peopel recommend using a logoff script? Thanks! Tom
  20. Since setting up my workstation as the only windows7 client on our network I have been able to play around and setup redirection for myself and profiles to make sure things work correctly for next years windows7 rollout. So far so good and I have been using this for a few months now, I have previously ran windows updates from the microsoft update service website and always installed all major updates and most optional ones but last week I decided to setup WSUS on our network and deploy updates, along with one of the approved updates for my workstation was windows 7 service pack 1 which I would assume would of been picked up by the computer in previous updates but it doesn't look like it. Anyway I went to use my machine yesterday morning and I could not logon, left the computer on the welcome screen logging in to my roaming profile account for over 10mins, nothing still so I rebooted and checked the events log which had the usual known issue "The winlogon notification subscriber took 264 second(s) to handle the notification event (Logon)" "The winlogon notification subscriber is taking long time to handle the notification event (Logon)." If I uninstall SP1 I'm able to logon fine, I have tryed this again today with the same result, unable to logon until SP1 is removed.
  21. I was thinking this, I havn't looked into it much I have some protein shake powder I brought a couple of months back and had it every morning, added it to porridge sometimes as its strawberry and would have some with milk before doing weights once or twice a week but I stopped taking it thinking Im not sure if it makes any real difference. Not looked into supplements more then that tho! Near 60lbs down tho. Threw away some 42" jeans last week

Everyone seems to be a grinch here so we have began playing christmas music in our office, best of all thosewho cause you the most bother try to avoid such a happy atmosphere and along came the discussion.......wireless network speakers, do they exist? Or even ethernet speakers, I mean with all the bluetooth speakers and VOIP we have now days surely such a thing exists? Is their such a product out there which could just be used off your existing wireless network? If not why not, surely it would be great for large enviroments, school radio, tannoy system etc... *Hides speakers in various rooms around the school* ps-merry christmas I've had to kill the music for now just had stay another day E17 and 2 become 1 on this CD I found.....
