I know this sounds stupid but check the quotes - even check their adding up When I did this several years ago I got quotes from 5 local companies - 2 of them had columns of numbers with a total at the bottom that was not the sum of the number above. I also found that the quote I got from the current supplier (who had been great) dropped a lot compared to the roll-over deal they had offered us 6 months before So basically assume nothing and check everything and, in my opinion, don;t get into a thing where they ask what the lowest quote was and ask to requote - I've seen people go down that rabbit hole and it wasn't nice

Been watching Outlaws - looks good also been watching Murder Island started off as a bit ho- hum but has got better as it has gone on clearly they have to dole the clues out slowly - if some smart - er - alec - solved the whole thing on week 2 it would be a bit of a problem but it has been interesting also watching Ambulance - wonderful insight to how it all works not as good as the season before the pandemic - more serious this time mind you they could never match the 2 old(ish) Irish women over in Liverpool for a night out calling an Liverpool ambulance crew - Mrs mikeprice nearly fell off the sofa laughing and I was in pain from it all

I was involved in some things like this many years ago Main thing is the SLA - make sure that you know exactly what happens when a problem crops up I know it is obvious but for example if a problems occurs how long to a response - which may be a phone call to determine details How long until someone starts looking at it How long until someone starts looking at it seriously if the first person fails what if serious action is required - what escalation procedures and how is all this communicated Bear in mind that sometimes a problem may be so complex that it can;t be fixed quickly e.g. many years ago the RAID system on our server failed - turned out that one part of a mirror pair had failed ages ago and not been spotted and the other half had died and the whole thing was striped and the backups were 'of less use than expected' so you need to know what happens when this sort of stuff hits the fan - no-one can guarantee a full fix with x hours - so then what?? I have always found that being rather hard and getting everything written down in detail at teh start is important you can start being reasonable and co-operative afterwards when you have the ability to start waving papers around and talking about compensation if necessary but decide to be helpful and understanding - as long as they are clearly doing their best Always worked for me

The clocks changing and knowing I am one of the few people in the UK that will change ALL the clocks - and be able to do so with no great problems to be clear In the UK - it does not apply to most people on this forum - I presume most people on here can change the clocks without the use of a hammer! Oh - and I will have to do the 6 monthly sneak into the sister-in-law's kitchen to change her clock while no-one is looking - honestly - 2 women and 2 men in the house plus a son who has moved out - and no-one can change the cooker clock!!!!!

Today's briefing suggested that we should be thinking of including a Lateral Flow Test as part of our weekly routine which seems sensible as it is starting to sound like that test is good at finding if you have the virus NOW whereas the PCR test looks for different things and can give a +ve if you had it a week or two ago If they continue to give them away free outside Tesco and push the 'test yourself every week just in case' concept then it might just make a difference assuming people are honest

Ordered some lights from Next last night - they arrived in the store before lunch so I went to get them all good so far not really the colour we expected but that happens so I went back to the store to return them turns out they have a new system for self service returns - staff member showed me where it was and I told her I would be OK with it (yup - got that 'old person(!) probably can;t do computerised stuff' look) Anyway - back to the point pressed start (see I'm kinda getting the hang of these new fangled computer things now) it wanted me to scan the bar code sooo- design problem number 1 it is clearly set up for scanning the bar code of clothes - so the scanner is about 2 inches above the surface of the unit - not really very good when scanning a cardboard box but just about managed to get it under the light and it worked Good system - it has 2 cupboards with pull down drawer that you cna open - put the item in and close it - it probably drops the item to the bottom so - it tells me to put the item in drawer number 2 design problem 2 drawer 2 is never going to be big enough for that box - the system needs a size check for the item - it must have one to work out which drawer to put it in - but it seems a bit lacking so now it is waiting for me to confirm I have put it in the drawer and closed the drawer Design problem number 3 Lack of any button to say there is a problem or that you are giving up Hence the lady behind me couldn't use the system while I went to find a member of staff to sort it out! SO I go and find a member of staff - just talking to her when Design problem number 4 crops up The lady who was behind me at the returns station comes over - she had got fed up and pressed 'done' on the screen to try and get her stuff returned so - because I hadn;t been able to cancel my return - it printed out MY receipt when I wasn;t there luckily she was a nice and honest person and came over and gave me the receipt turns out that, even though I had put nothing into the drawer, the system had registered the item as returned I presume the staff rescan everything in the cupboard before actual money is refunded - but still a problem Overall - it looks like a good system probably given to a project team that was understaffed and told a deadline without actually working out how long it would take to design and write now if I was on the team then clearly it would have been perfect as anyone who worked with me in the old days could attest - but none of them are on here - I hope

I'm getting really worried about the staffing problems at the local hospitals I know they have problems with Covid and stress and everything but I think they are dropping standards too much there was a sign outside the nearest hospital that said THIEVES MAY BE OPERATING IN THIS AREA

What I mean - as I feel you well know is how long before I can use it again and people will find it funny rather than rolling their eyes and saying I used that one last year of course - 'some' mods may roll their eyes anyway (which is totally unnecessary - I have a wife for that!!!) and I may be assuming a lot in using the word funny

How does it work in the case of e.g. Ring doorbells the data is held centrally by a commercial entity but is accessed by the owner if I understand it correctly so does this mean the exemption still applies or not??

Just a warning On another thread that I frequent (yes - I know - sorry) a few people are reporting trying to remove anti-vax posters and finding they have been booby trapped with razor blades mostly someone has gone to the trouble of separating the blades from a multi blade razor to make them more difficult to detect AT least they had been placed too high up a a kid to get to them I have heard of this before but it was more of an Urban Myth this seems more real be careful out there folks!

Just been reminded that the clocks have to go back later this month which is a bit of a problem because I've been racking my brain but I just can't remember where I got them from!
