Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
mikeprice replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
That is the way these things normally go a virus will evolve to promote the variant with maximum ability to infect people and if you kill people your ability to infect - and hence breed - stops at that point if you infect people with few major symptoms then your version gets to breed and spread - and hence become more prevalent -
My Best friend used to work for the local counsel as a Road Worker He was accused of stealing from work I just couldn't believe he would do something like that but when I went round to see him all the signs were there

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)

I am rather confused about the figures everything seems to be falling - which is good - and Mrs mikeprice's son says the hospital is coping fine but I see full stadiums and race tracks and people giving up wearing masks but then the vaccine take up has been good I just hope the International community can get the rest of the world sorted out with vaccinations before a really bad/different version develops -
A welsh farmer is checking on his animals so goes off to the fields with his sheep dog The sheep are a bit scattered out so he asks his dog to go out and count them for him - just to check none have gone missing The dog - a Wlesh collie which are very intelligent - runs off and checks every part of the field then comes back to the farmer the farmer ask him how many he found '40' said the dog (I said Welsh collies were intelligent) 'What' said the farmer - 'that can't be right I only bought 38!!" the dog look at him and said "I rounded them up"

A man is driving down the road and breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night? Long The monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, even fix his car. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a very strange sound. The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but they say, We can't tell you. You're not a monk. The man is disappointed but thanks them anyway and goes about his merry way. Some years later, The same man breaks down in front of the same monastery. The monks again accept him, feed him, and again fix his car. That night, he hears the same strange noise that he had heard years earlier. The next morning, he asks what it is, but the monks reply, We can't tell you. You're not a monk. The man says, All right, all right. I'm dying to know. If the only way I can find out what that sound was is to become a monk, how do I become a monk? The monks reply, You must travel the earth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and the exact number of sand pebbles, when you find these numbers, you will become a monk. The man sets about his task. Some 54 years later, he returns and knocks on the door of the monastery. He says, I have traveled the earth and have found what you have asked for. There are 145,236,284,232 blades of grass and 231,281,219,999,129,382 sand pebbles on the earth. The monks reply, Congratulations. You are now a monk. We shall now show you the way to the sound. The monks lead the man to a wooden door where the head monk says, The sound is right behind that door. The man reaches for the knob, but the door is locked. He says, Real funny. May I have the key? The monks give him the key, and he opens the door. Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone. The man demands the key to the stone door. The monks give him the key, and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby. He demands another key from the monks, who provide it. Behind that door is another door, this one made of sapphire, And so it went until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz, and amethyst. Finally, the monks say, This is the last key to the last door. The man is relieved to know that he has finally reached to the end . He unlocks the door, turns the knob, and behind that door he is amazed to find the source of that strange sound. But he can't tell you what it is because you're not a monk.

Things that could have been improved before being approved...
mikeprice replied to 6Foot2's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
It is probably quite right just shows how important it is to specify the units -
Could be genuine - in as much as the angry chap was the takeaway owner who is being targeted by someone with a load of orders that no-one turns up to collect - hence he makes the food but doesn;t get paid the use of your number could be unconnected to you - just random it is the takeaway that is being targeted - I have heard of this being done in blackmail attempts or by competing businesses
-
I have done that in the past when one of them really pushed it I guess he got me on a bad day and annoyed me!!! I honestly don;t think it makes any difference to them - but maybe once in a while it will make someone think As I have said before - a few months ago I started to get the impression that the more I wasted their time - the more calls I started getting when I stopped and started just hanging up - the calls reduced I suspect - based on just me - that if you annoy them they sometimes flag you name to be put on other lists - thus selling numbers to other competing scammer knowing they are no good but as a result you get calls from other scammers maybe
-
I don't bother - they always come from different numbers

Awesome spot!!! - - - Updated - - - Was time travel included in the package???

sneaky!! I like it

Had a strange one this morning phone rang so I answered - normal 019xxxxxxxx type number silence for a second followed by a slight click - clearly a call centre then someone said - "Hello this is Amazon Prime - how can I help you" weird first thought was that the automated message system had gone wrong and it had just passed me through rather than waiting for me to press 1 or whatever but I have had a thought It could be a way of sorting out people who get confused easily - if you act as though they rang you and they get confused then you probably have a susceptible and/og gullible person - hence a more likely victim dunno anyone else had something like that?

Are you perhaps suggesting that I should have posted it on a thread where it was not exactly related to the topic of the thread????? could this be seen - by 'some people' as incitement to thread derailment??? are you - by any chance - suggesting that this is the sort of thing I would do???? you could, of course, copy it and paste it somewhere else yourself!!

And also A man is working on the buses in the US collecting tickets. He rings the bell for the driver to set off when there's a woman half getting on the bus. The driver sets off, the woman falls from the bus and is killed. At the trial the man is sent down for murder and seeing as it's Texas he's sent to the electric chair. On the day of his execution he's sat in the chair and the executioner grants him a final wish. "Well" says the man, "is that your packed lunch over there?" "Yes" answers the executioner. "Can I have that green banana?" The executioner gives the man his banana and waits till he's eaten it. When the man's finished, the executioner flips the switch sending hundreds of thousands of volts through the man. When the smoke clears the man is still alive. The executioner can't believe it. "Can I go?" the man asks. "I suppose so" says the executioner, "that's never happened before." The man leaves and eventually gets a job back on the buses selling tickets. Again he rings the bell for the driver to go when people are still getting on. A man falls under the wheels and is killed. The bloke is sent down for murder again and sent to the electric chair. The executioner is determined to do it right this time so rigs the chair up to the electric supply for the whole of Texas. The bloke is again sat in the chair. "What is your final wish?" asks the executioner. "Can I have that green banana in your packed lunch?" says the condemned man. The executioner sighs and reluctantly gives up his green banana. The bloke eats the banana all up and the executioner flips the switch. Millions of volts course through the chair blacking out Texas. When the smoke clears the man is still sat there smiling in the chair. The executioner can't believe it and lets the man go. Well, would you believe it, the bloke gets his job back on the buses. Once again he rings the bell whilst passengers are still getting on, this time killing three of them. He is sent to the electric chair again. The executioner rigs up all United States electricity supply to The chair, determined to get his man this time. The man sits down in the chair smiling. "What's your final wish ?" asks the executioner. "Well" says the man, "Can I have that green banana out of your packed lunch.?" The executioner hands over his green banana and the man eats it all, skin included. The executioner pulls the handle and a brazillion volts go through the chair. When the smoke rises the man is still sat there alive without even a burn mark. "I give up" says the executioner, "I don't understand how you can still be alive after all that?". He stroked his chin. "It's something to do with that green banana isn't it?" he asked. "Nah," said the bloke, "I'm just a really bad conductor."

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
mikeprice replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
I suppose that if the SImpsons predicted every event ever to occur in the word (which they seem to have done***) then anything is possible however they did make about 17 million episodes so that did have a good chance of predicting stuff and getting bits right *** according to clickbait headlines on the WWW anyway -
Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
mikeprice replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
Just been listening to CNN - 'cos Mrs mikeprice likes it???? Anyway - someone was saying they have refused to have the vaccine because in 'I am Legend' all the people became zombies because of taking a vaccine When faced with this sort of logic it is no wonder that the USA has a low take up in a lot of places it really does make you wonder how some people walk and talk at the same time -
Domestic Energy Prices - switch now or wait????
mikeprice replied to mikeprice's topic in General Chat
That is useful info - thanks! On that basis I could wait and the prices will have started to fall a bit - maybe Unless the companies see an opportunity to 'enhance' profits for a while due to the fuss over the price cap -
Hi all I'm confused - again. AT the moment my energy deal is probably the lowest around - it is with EDF, but only because I was taken over by them when Green Energy Network collapsed So that is basically OK at the moment but the deal runs out in October EDF have sent me an email offering to switch me to a different but fixed tariff So - naturally - I have checked on the comparison sites and the best tdeal they can come up with is over £20 per month DEARER than my current deal. However, I would also like a deal that uses green energy, at least mostly - whereas EDF offer a carbon free option but on checking it turns out to be pretty much 100% nuclear. So - my dilemma is whether to switch - at a higher cost per month - now - or wait until the current deal is about to expire and see what is around then Clearly this is all down to the increase in the 'price cap' due to an increase in the wholesale gas price over the last few months So - I was wondering what the collective wisdom on here is thinking???

If there are metal bits sticking up that used to hold the keys in place then they could be sharp - hence the failed sticker In other words they are saying their job involves doing a general H&S assessment - which - I think - is not what they are supposed to be doing On the subject of testers just testing everything - NM in one school I worked in told me about one PAT tested that he found happily testing a black bag full of power cables the EU power cables that come with everything were just chucked in this bag and then sent for recyling when the bag was full - and he had found it and was testing every damn one they charged per item!! So - I would check their contract - they may get paid per item and an extra for finding stuff that fails - which would explain the over zealous behaviour!
