I cycle quite a lot - the idea that I can be on a shared cycle path and expect a car turning into a road to give me priority is totally pie-in-the-sky as far as I can see The whole system is designed assuming that the bike stops at every junction and gives way to cars - whatever the new HC says some even specifically have give way markings on the path!!! In some European countries they have give way markings on the road instead - and coloured tarmac showing the cycle path The same generally applies to entrances to factories etc - one shared path near here is, in my opinion, unusable due to the existence of different factories and workshops etc every few yards and during working hours you have to at least slow down a lot at every entrance People at a bit better when it comes to house driveways - but then they are more used to pedestrians wandering along pavements anyway It is all an improvement but it isn't where it should be

It all goes to show that the best thing to do to keep a room warm is to insulate it no point in burning more and more candles (virtual or real) if the heat goes out through a window The design concept of through rooms and open spaces also gets a bit less desirable when you have to heat the whole room rather than a small living room with all the humans and pets in it plus the telly (and a laptop on Edugeek of course)

I find that a lot of car drivers seem to take be more understanding when I cycle out from the kerb when I approach a narrowing of the road - such as a pedestrian refuge or something I have seen a couple of pedestrians assume I will let them walk out in front of me at junctions - but I have not seen anyone let someone walk across when leaving a roundabout - I think most people realise that that is just too dangerous if there is other traffic about. As far as I remember the HC also says that driver 'should' so it is not compulsory and up to the judgement of the driver

When my Mother-in-Law was ill we borrowed one from the Red Cross WHen I picked it up they said that they sell refurbished ones for reasonable rates and if I needed one then we could return the one we had and swap it for an identical one that had been refurbished and they would knock the rental costs off the price Might be worth trying them

My last school had a pretty decent system based on a desktop wird into an amp - and some speakers in the hall It was mainly put in by some professionals - I wasn;t there at the time so I don;t know who did it But the reason for posting is that I was driven mad by staff member, people who hired the hall and visiting speakers pulling all the cables out to get their laptops, dvd players etc working plus the need to wireless microphone which cropped up I ended up witha small cheap mixer which could take several inputs - one was permanently plugged into the PC, one for the wireless microphones and one was connecetd to a cable clipped in an obvious plce for use with other people's equipment This made a huge difference to the number of time I had to dash down to the hall for 'an emergency' didn't cost much and if I was there we could even mix different inputs at the same time

I would suggest that you problem starts with Senior Management. If they allow this expectation then it will continue - so you need to make sure thye are aware of the problems. Point out that if you are constantly swamped by people demanding help NOW for things they can do themselves - then you will end up needing more IT staff otherwise the important long term jobs won;t get done. Get SMT on board at a start point Then get them on board with enforcing the logging system - it will cause a lot of trouble to start with but if there is a proper fault logging system then it also provides you with a job log which can be analysed to show problem areas, staff needing more training (or a kick up the whatsit for not doing it themselves) and, at teh end of the year, it will show what the IT department has been doing with staff just arriving and demanding xxx then nothing is properly logged and cannot be run efficently People on here have done just that and shown it can work after a while but you NEED management on board fully
