It's an interesting question. The Copyright, Designs and Patents act has a specific exclusion for "examinations" The rights conferred by Part II are not infringed— (a) by the copying of a recording of a performance for the purposes of setting or answering the questions in an examination, or (b) by anything done for the purposes of an examination by way of communicating the questions to the candidates. Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (c. 48) I guess it's debatable whether coursework is considered to be part of an examination.

It's likely to depend whether it's a .uk or .com etc - different registrars have different policies.

I think the FTP part of the question is a red herring - a file upload PHP/ASP script would let you accept the files and drop them onto the server via HTTP and the server's file system. Security is a major concern though as has been pointed out. At the very minimum you'd want to limit it to specific file extensions and a file size limit. And then be very careful how you use the files!

The chair is a definite. When I had my DSE training the general advice was that wrist rests aren't recommended because if you are resting your wrists while using the mouse/kb they're in the wrong position which causes strain. DSE Regs

The way it works here is that the users do their own initial self-assessment, then people who have done the DSE Assessor's course (2x afternoon's worth) follow up any issues that the users have identified, which is at least partly to make sure that they really do need that new chair and aren't just trying it on I got sick of the paperwork and set up an online self-assessment system which when we get time is going to have some bits of video added showing what the questions on the self-assessment *really* mean rather than the health and safety speak they're written in.

The notable thing about it is that it uses a standard phone circuit to handle your call as far as three, and then it goes VOIP and through Skype. Which means that it's still usable if you don't have good 3G reception, but means the sound quality is no better than a regular phone call, so the benefits of clearer calls you get with Skype with a headset don't apply.

But if it's his own private broadband connection it's nothing to do with the school network and thus nothing to do with its policy. Treat it as if it were any other property which neighbours the school, over which you have no influence.

I'm assuming it's at the caretaker's house - they're often right next to the school.

And that by learning the proper names for things you might buy the right item when you need an accessory? I really don't see how there can be any grievance with Dongle, Cookie and Phone Jack, are of which are names given to technology when invented. Giving a new piece of technology a new name is surely inevitable, and an addition to the vocabulary of plain English? And how anybody can object to "Digital TV" as not being plain English is beyond me. Surely the need to spoon feed consumers is outweighed by the need for technical people to be able to communicate unambiguously with each other?

Arguably a computing post in this section is off-topic. If you were asking specifically about programming languages maybe you should have put it in the Coding section or made your question more explicit?
