There is no mechanism in UK law to register your copyright. Something you create is automatically copyright to you (or your employer) as soon as you do it. The post it to yourself and don't open it is simply a way of having a copy of the work which you can prove (or at least claim as proof) existed at the date of the postmark.

You could look at one of the free viop services like sipgate.co.uk - get a number from them, and you can record an outgoing answering message. So advertise this number as your "snow line", leave an OGM stating that the school is open (in most cases) or a dated message stating that it is closed on a given date. If a caller does leave a message it will turn up as a wav file in a nominated email address. I think you can set it not to take messages from callers.

Do you have to change the username at all? Would be safer to just change display names (the cosmetic bits) and set up an email alias for the new format so that the new and old versions continue to work. BAD is maybe overstating it. Clunky and buggy is maybe closer to the mark. It was great under Netware because NDS had a print balance field, but in a Windows envionment it has to keep its own balances database, and it's very buggy. We use the ICS integration with it and it's a nightmare at times. Like when the cardpin db which links user ID to card magstripe/mifare ID gets corrupted.
