That would be very sensible. However, Quentin Wilson, Clarkson, Ed King (AA) and the tabloids would shout "It's WAR on the motorist!" and the government would quickly back down (whilst ignoring the human cost of their action).

If we policed the roads properly they would be much more pleasant places. Every day I see people driving like it's a basic human right and who don't give a hoot what happens outside their tin box - mobiles, speeding, inconsiderate parking, harassment of cyclists, lack of awareness & anticipation, light jumping. Mr Hammonds latest idea is more about soundbites then anything realistic - don't forget he stopped the "war" on the motorist.

What sort of battery life do you all get out of HTC Desire S / HD / Incredible? I'm very tempted but I'm too lazy to charge a phone every day - my current clunker gets charged weekly.

One school - 7 mins by bicycle. Other school - 5 mins walk. Takes too long so it's actually 2 mins on the bike - which is more fun. Can't understand why people sit in traffic burning fuel for <4 mile journeys!

If you accept that oil prices aren't ever going to come down (peak oil anybody?) then the fair fuel stabiliser (appropriate acronym I must say) is pointless - all it will ever do is reduce the tax take. If anything, one could argue for tax rises to get us used to future rises (when there might then be leeway to reduce the tax).

But where's the media story then? Forgetting about the encryption's worth a headline, no?

Ah, happy days. My Dad was a head at the time and brought one home from school so he could get his head round it. We plugged it into the black & white tv and I never looked back. The 'rents eventually bought an '81, followed by a spectrum. Also got to play with BBC Bs and turtles (thanks dad!).

I'm getting the same error. Anybody manage a fix? The mdb is accessible to all users, not sure where else to look. "Unable to open the library database at the location c:\ blah blah Error (the microsoft jet database engine cannot open the file ". It is already opened exclusively by another user or you need permission to view its data.). Nobody else is looking at that file and the perms are open. Ta

Well, that was easy - thanks to Arthur's msi. I used the optional animations from the original install so people would have a start point but the msi installed on network machines very smooothly. Thanks again. Mat

I've been asked to install Stykz on 20ish machines and the Stykz website has only an exe installer (in a zip). There is no mention of a silent install or an msi - and I'd rather not manually install it. Suggestions anybody?? Ta, Mat

I spent some time yesterday with an old activboard which wouldn't calibrate properly - I could run calibration and it completed but the cursor just moved randomly when the pen was on the board. Promethean tech support suggested a driver update (didn't work), change the usb cable (didn't work), swap the pc for another one with new drivers (didn't work) and eventually suggested updating the firmware in the board. I was fairly sure the board electronics had a problem so was pretty skeptical that this would work but - blow me down - it did. The tech also said that a firmware update provokes a scan of the boards hardware which I can only guess sorted the problem.
