Ta for that. For future reference, the updater is in /opt/fog-setup/fog_0.31/utils/FOGUpdater/ That's on a 0.31 installation, change fog_(version) to whatever you're currently on. If you're behind a proxy you'll probably need to inform wget about it (can't remember the details).

In case somebody in the future finds this (hello!), I think that error is caused by the image type being set to single image. Try specifying a multiple partition image (win7 likes a separate boot partition at the start of this disc. Forget it and it doesn't want to boot).

Virgin - while you're at it, stop charging existing customers significantly more than new customers. It annoys them even more when you charge handsome disconnect & reconnect charges to make sure a new contract would only save them a few quid (and no doubt cost a load of hassle!).

I've had - 5 xp machines at the login screen. Why won't they login - the user & pw are correct. Answers were - dialup checkbox selected, spaces after username, ethernet disconnected etc etc - here's a domain password (gulp!). Put this machine on the network. Needed to know about the proxy server / copy it off another machine. - what's the difference between a hub and and a switch? - here's a schematic (of the sumps & pumps as it happened). Tell me how it works (not a specifically IT job but showed general intelligence). Had to spot low and high level floats energising relays which started pumps. I've forgotten some.. Hth.

For future reference - the 'unable to move' error can be caused by defining the image type as 'single partition' for a machine with multiple partitions. Just change the image type to 'multiple partition image' to sort it.

I have a wireless box called (for the sake of argument) boxa. It has a dhcp reservation (2008r2) with the correct mac address at 10.2.112.51. When I ping boxa (by hostname) from the DC, it pings 10.2.112.52. It's only out by 1 ffs! Tried ipconfig/flushdns Any other ideas? Many thanks, Mat

I won't buy an iAnything because they're all too expensive and too locked down for me. Cheap android, bought up front and a monthly contract does fine, thank you very much. 3rd party roms (so no waiting on manufacturers for updates), no sim lock and no 'you can have it if apple says so'.

Orange san franciscos are about £80 on ebay. Camera's not great though. Wouldn't it be easier to buy cameras?

No mention of zdbox? App killer, do not disturb, uninstaller, move to sd card - replaces about 4 other apps. Also LBE security - tells you what apps are accessing the network / contacts / gps etc, allow & deny as you wish. Google reader, twitter client, guardian anywhere good for reading material.

It's popular and as mentioned, just works. It's served up from a desktop box of unknown brand running Linux and is the only thing here I've not needed to touch. Even survived a power cut sans-ups and came up again gracefully.

Is the client machines name correct against its mac address on the host management page?

Fog uses the mac address to link names to hosts. Set the host name on the host management page and you'll be fine. Fog can tell you the mac of a machine from the pxe boot menu if it helps.

Thing is, in a primary where the kids don't have email, the staff get quite cheesed off when their (work related) attachments get blocked and 3 letter swear words are found everywhere (in completely innocuous messages).

We're getting emails blocked by embc because the binaries have 3 letter swear words in them. Why on earth would you check binary files (full of random characters) for swear words as short as 3 letters? Sure fire way to false positives, surely?

We have a new server with a new UPS. In their wisdom, the default settings from apc make it self-test every 2 weeks. Fine - except when it drops power to your new server. We've sent one back already, and the second unit also likes dropping servers. 35% load, one dell t610 connected. I think apc should name their products IPS - interrupted power supply. We are now waiting (48 hours and counting) for apc to look at the logs they've been sent and decide what to do. In the meantime, the server has one supply on the mains - it's more reliable - and the selftest is disabled. Has anybody else had similarly cr4p product & service from apc? Ta, Mat
