I find myself suspecting that MS themselves aren't exactly sure what things will look like beyond wanting to get everyone moving to the cloud. Once they figure that out they'll let us know.

The thing that's bothering me at the moment is that I have to order a new suite, do I continue to go with Windows Home licences that we upgrade with our OVS-ES or go for Pro?! Our agreement will run until Summer '19, with no idea what's going to happen not sure what to do.

Kinda going round in circles on this, not overly hot on switches tbh. Need to replace our core switch. Ideally it would be Layer 3 for future vlan plans and POE so I can ditch the injectors in the cab for the cctv cams. Usually I use HP switches but open to suggestions. Been looking at the Aruba 2920 48G does that seem like a good fit for a primary?

Also, worth noting that no one actually knows what the current discount is, or what the actual price of an academic licence is. Is it corporate pricing? Is it public sector pricing? So when MS say the discount decreases by a certain amount, its meaningless really.

Hopefully, it will look at little like how they are trying to move corporate customers to the cloud. Some 365 bundles give you rights to use on premises services without having to buy cals (eg for exchange, lync, sharepoint), meaning that businesses can subscribe 365 and still use their onsite services until they are ready to move. What would be great if they came up with a hybrid agreement ie pay us for 365 and you can still use a number of on site servers etc.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a new, more afforadable, cloudy type agreement that came into being, with the high prices of the EES used to push us toward it. I still can't believe that MS would, at a stroke, price out most schools like this.

Wininstall LE for building your own installers. Scan -> install application -> scan again -> capture something you didn't mean to -> deploy application -> break computers Netac USB stick that could emulate a floppy disk - invaluable.

So after reading this: it seems that a new agreement will be put in place with special cloud pricing. So I wonder if the way forward will be to have most stuff in the cloud with some on-site services for backup in case of Internet outage. If I remember correctly, things like SCCM are heading to the cloud as well.

Sure, but isn't the end result a lot of schools thinking "MS have screwed up over, let's check out the other vendors (eg GAFE)"? A lot of goodwill could be lost over this.

I think that this is the thing to do, wait until we get more info before we wipe everything and replace it with linux I just can't believe that MS would price schools out of using their products. It would be madness.

Although it's a supported scenario it's generally considered better not to capture a domain joined machine due to capturing gpo settings that that might cause issues down the line. Having said that, in a well managed environment sysprep does a good job of preparing a domain machine for image capture (removing SIDs etc). So if you are going to do it, do it carefully

I read the document a few times and these statements: Its seem strange that this is being sold as a good thing for schools. The way I see it is that the agreement that schools have been benefiting from for years now is being pulled. I can only think that MS will provide some kind of new agreement post EES for cloud services. Or, and perhaps more likely, get to 2018 and realise that many schools don't have the infrastructure or will to move everything to the cloud and extend the discounts again.

Offline servicing is what you are after. Right click your image and click 'schedule updates' - choose a good 'out of hours' time as it takes a while.

Not moving out of education but removing the discounts we enjoy. Under the MoU things are destined to get a lot more expensive. Though its an odd move. As I see it, the healthy discounts we get keeps schools using MS products and exposing pupils (future customers) to their wares. Paying a lot more could push schools to moving away from MS which would be bad for them.

Funnily enough, just had a remote session with the LA and they didn't mind it being on Win 10 at all

I haven't had any problems with it. Though I won't put it on any mission critical machines until its officially support by Capita as I know if we have to contact our LA sims support team the first thing they will say is its not supported.

The DVD is stating copyright law. There are exemptions to copyright law based on the context that the material is being shown in. With Netflix, Spotify etc you are agreeing to a contract that states that its for personal use only. The exemptions don't apply.
