  1. Update: When I ping their mail server (mail.domain.name) the response comes from mail.easymail.ifl.net When I check on our mail server I can see the bounce messages are coming from mq4.ifl.net They are (apparently) receiving emails fine from everywhere except us. We are having no problems sending to anyone else. Sounds like their mail server (or their providers at least) doesn't want to talk to us specifically. Anyway, their IT bod says he's looking into it...
  2. Tried sending from GMail and that worked fine...
  3. We have no other email problems, except when sending to this domain. And the bounce message isn't coming from our mail server...
  4. I'm having problems emailing another school in the area. My immediate thought was that the address was incorrect, but when I also tried other addresses (including the info@ listed on their website) they also bounce. (NOTE: The address has been edited) Their IT bod apparently "doesn't take calls during the day" when I phoned them this morning. Perhaps the receptionist thought I was trying to sell them something? Has anyone got any clues about what the problem might be, assuming the address is indeed correct?
  5. I wish I'd seen this thread before yesterday! I removed Java 6 Update 11 from GP on Thursday night and added Java 6 Update 16. When all the Curriculum PCs turned on approx 8am yesterday they basically locked up trying to uninstall. Many of the slower PCs took nearly 2 hours to "timeout/fail" and get to the login screen, and even then they ran incredibly slow, and if the PC was rebooted the whole saga began again. After the JavaQuickStarterService was disabled (i ran a recursive script using sc.exe to disable it on every PC) and the PCs rebooted they uninstalled the old, installed the new, and worked perfectly normally. Methinks I'll set it to manual in GP as per AngryTech's post in case future versions have the same bug...
  6. I haven't tried. But local install on 500+ PCs isn't an option
  7. I've been banging my head against a brick wall with this problem for a while now. I have Shockwave 11 installed (MSI via GP), with no apparent errors. However, going to the Shockwave test page as a non-admin just shows a black box, yet if I go there as an admin it says it's installed and the latest version. I had the same problem with previous v11 and also v10 installs. (The last time it worked was aaaaaaages ago, and I don't want to go back to an old version) Any ideas?
  8. how about we (read: edugeek regulars) create some bogus info somewhere on wikipedia (presumably about UK education?) and see if we can get it to appear in a BBC article?
  9. cool vid matt. thanks for the link. looooooong flight time i thought. quite fuel efficient? i thought it was a lot smaller too, until right at the end of the video when the guy with the fire extinguisher ran up to it and you saw the scale.
  10. Does anyone else think Steve Jobs is looking very old and pale lately? http://static.arstechnica.com/apple/jobs_ipod_2009.jpg I know he's had a liver transplant, but he doesn't look healthy...
  11. Yep, mine would have to be Simon Travaglia, too! I was even a student at the same Uni he worked at so heard about BOFH from the start (looooong before it made it to El Reg)
  12. My first guess would be gout, too. I've had it twice in my life. Both times it was in the big toe, and both times after larger-than-normal quantities (whilst on holiday back in NZ) of the following: Red Wine, Port, Cheese, Fish and Shellfish (in my case it was whitebait), and Whisky.
  13. We use small trunking and electrical tape to go through ceilings.
  14. I can recommend Clearwater. It's a bit (1.5hrs from memory) of a drive from Orlando but has a FABULOUS beach. I stayed here. I can't remember what the car rental cost, but it was from National.
  15. I queried this same problem in this thread. I'm still in the dark
  16. I was just about to ask the same thing. We need to get a card printer (only low volume) but it needs to be cheeeeeeeeeeap.
  17. can anyone else hear (black) helicopters?

  20. Don't forget the boot full of Wine!
  21. Kia Ora, all! I'm working at a Secondary School in Essex, UK.
  22. I would check with your provider. I know T-Mobile differentiate between using Internet on your mobile and using your mobile as an Internet connection for something else (like a laptop). You have to pay extra for that functionality. e.g https://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/mobile-internet/on-your-laptop/phone-as-modem/ EDIT: Found Vodafone's info squirrelled away. Looks like it'll cost you £20 !! ouch http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=template10&pageID=MB_0022
  23. All stay away from the V festival, please! The A12 is congested enough on my daily commute. Going to be a nightmare for me tonight I suspect...
  24. Yeah. It was the only way I could afford to drink when I was a Uni student.
  25. What should the lenses/mirrors be cleaned with? Isopropyl?
