I've been having problems at home with Vista (Ultimate) corrupting XLS (Office XP, not even 2003) files when I copy them to a memory stick. This is with UAC turned off too. Maybe try to copy it to another networked (XP) PC *then* onto a memory stick?

When I was taught touch-typing MANY moons ago, the 4 fingers of your left hand went on ASDF and the 4 of your right hand went on JKL;. If you wanted Q then the A finger went up, W -> S, etc. The same for going down. So It makes sence that you'd use the S key for X. Although the D key seems more comfortable to me - over the years my typing has mutated from pure touch typing into a floating whatever-finger-is-closest-to-the-key method, plus it was so long ago I'm not sure I remember correctly anyway... So I haven't really answered your Q have I Sorry I'm left handed so by brain is wired back to front anyway. Come to think of it, as I'm from NZ my brain is also upside down (whilst in the UK anyway ) so I never stood a chance...

it could be that the drive is knackered. i've had instances in the past where this has been the problem and veritas has given seemingly non-related errors. that was on autoloader units though... and yours is a single unit isn't it?

We've just bought a load of these to replace some aging PC's... Product Specs PDF They came with DVD drives and a Media Card reader in the FDD slot (I'm told there wasn't an option to not have them included!??! I'm not sure... I don't do the ordering). Instead of just disconnecting them internally to stop them being used, we ideally we want to remove them altogether otherwise the students will eventually trash them, but I've hunted high and low to find 5.25" and 3.5" blanking plates etc for them but aren't having any luck. What would you recommend I do? a) Leave them in and just disconnect them? b) Try and fashion bespoke blanking plates from something (if so, what?) c) Put proper HP blanking plates in (if so, where do I get them?) d) Other (please specify) Thanks in advance Jim
