Would it not be easier to send a series of emails to staff, asking them to turn off the projector after each lesson?

In this situation I usually just delete them. They (staff and pupils) rarely have the nerve to come and ask you to restore them, as they know damn well they aren't allowed to have them in their network shares.

I work for 3 primary schools x 3hours per week, on top of running the network at my secondary school.

Does anyone actually have a 'white list' already populated that I could take a look at? Our school is looking at incorporating a white list but the teachers are reluctant to add their own URL's from scratch.

Hi, I'm getting a really annoying message everytime anyone logs onto any computer in one of the rooms: "One of the files containing the system registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy..." I've tried quite a few things to sort this out, including Registry cleaning and running a chkdsk. From what I can googlewhack, people are suggesting that its a problem with the ntuser.dat file. Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this problem? I've nearly finished a new ghost image but I want this message to disappear before its done. ta Alan.

Hi people, Suddenly the RMshared folder on our server is giving users the message that a file already exists with the name they are trying to save in Powerpoint. If the students try to save itit says that the sharedfolder\foldername is read only. There appears a file with the name they want to save with no kb (i.e. an empty file). The shared folder says read only with the correct share permissions and NTFS permissions assigned accordly. I have click on the read-only attribute to take it off and it proceeds to do that to all the folders and files in the share. But when I click on properties it still says read-only and the users still can't save to the folder. Anyone come across this problem before?

How do I get hold of it then?

I watched a game of rugby last week (Salford Reds VS Celtic Crusaders) where a mass brawl broke out in the second half.... punches flying everywhere. Salford's captain suffered a fractured cheekbone in the incident. The outcome? TWO YELLOW CARDS. For a mass brawl! This proves how soft football is, and how sickening it is when the go down clutching their faces after a tiny little slap. Its pathetic, but sadly this is how football is nowadays. Overpaid muppets!

Universal TCP/IP network (with Ghost) is IMO the best way to achieve this. You can find it on Hirens Boot CD.

Hi Some of the teachers want to be able to use ActivPrimary outside of school (i.e. off the school network), but everytime they try to run it, it errors and doesn't run. I ran the debugger and it errored when trying to connect to a network drive. I'm guessing that this is to do with writing data to their N: ??? If so, is there anything that can be done about it? ta very muchly, Alan.

As a Rangers fan living in Manchester, this week has been AMAZING so far. Manchester is absolutely teamed with Ger's fans. I'm watching the game in Albert Square tonight... just about to start on my first can of Wife-Beater silly me forgot to book time off work tomorrow though... Rangers 2-1 tonight. We had a demo of Podium last week. The teachers were quite impressed but at £25 per licence I think we're going to stick to Audacity. If you have the funds though, Podium looks user-friendly even to the most luddite of teachers.

Hi, turns out it was the fact that I wasn't deleting the workstations from the management console before re-building them. Didn't realise this would cause a problem! Our school doesnt have a support contract with RM so problems like these are hard to troubleshoot. Many thanks for your advice! Alan.

Hi everyone. When I perform a full workstation rebuild of an RM workstation, the rebuild will only go as far as the Windows XP logon screen and doesn't appear back in the RM Management Console. Therefore, putting all the apps back onto the machine is proving a nightmare. The workstation has joined the domain successfully and I can browse to network shares, so theres nothing wrong with the NIC as far as I can see. Any ideas? Ta very muchly Alan

Are you running a CC3 network? I have had the same problem with Sherston's 'Email detectives' and have no idea what is causing it!!

We had a similar problem here... are all of your monitors the same? Our problem was due to our monitors having different resolutions.

I'd simply tell the teacher to be more responsible with her laptop.

We had a similar problem last week.... We ordered in a new motherboard and the problem didn't go away. Turned out it was actually the PSU, which was strange. Give it a try!

Does your school not own a genuine copy of XP Pro SP2?
